U.S. Ambassador to Syria ‘Attacked’ During Pro-Regime Demonstration

A new video is starting to make the rounds that shows U.S. Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford being targeted by a pro-regime Syrian protesters. It’s a fracas that The Cable blog is calling an “attack” and an “assault.” But we’ll let you watch the video to decide.

First, here’s what happened, according to The Cable:

The assault took place before Ford’s unapproved trip to the city of Jassem on Aug 23. Ford was present at a gathering of demonstrators who support the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad outside the Cham Palace Hotel in Damascus when one demonstrator ran up to Ford and tried to wrap him in a poster that featured Assad’s face.

Ford’s security intervened quickly and rushed Ford to his car. [...]

Footage of the confrontation was then replayed on Syrian TV, which accuses Ford of trying to lead a protest in Damascus and is why you are seeing it now. The incident begins at about 2:00 below:

According to The Cable, this is just one more in a long line of anti-Ford “stunts:”

For example, the same TV station recently showed a video of fireworks in downtown Damascus, after which the anchor said Ford must have been “shitting his pants with diarrhea,” Tabler recounted.

After Ford visited anti-regime protests in the city of Hama in July, the regime encouraged supporters to pelt the U.S. embassy with rocks and eggs. The protesters smashed embassy windows and wrote graffiti on the walls calling Ford a “dog.”

“It’s annoying and shows you the base nature of that regime,” said Tabler. “This regime hates to be in the spotlight. Robert Ford‘s actions there place those kinds of things in the spotlight and that’s why they are harassing him.”

“[The video is] a weak, banal, laughable attempt by the Syrian thugs to have the international community focus on anything but the real story, which is the government’s continuing campaign of terror on its own people through torture, murder and illegal imprisonment,” a State Department official told The Cable.

“It’s annoying and shows you the base nature of that regime,” said Tabler, and it also shows that we are sticking our noses in too many places we just do not belong and more pertinent to the point are extremely hated. This government by it‘s actions has reduced this nation to such a level that we are no longer the ’sole superpower of the world” and even if we are, we are a bankrupt super power who cannot back up our stand against all the regimes of the world without first borrowing from China to wage a war. The sad irony of it is China knows this and can do whatever she deems fit for she has the US economy and thereby our power, in her pocket.

IF the Syrians are telling the truth (and that is a big IF)….why did our ambassador show up at an anti- Assad rally in July?? His job is to represent America and her interests. His job is not to take sides in a Syrian civil upheavel.

Looks like the Syrian people are just doing the jobs that Americans refuse to do. Our diplomatic mission in the middle east is a complete disaster and has led to virtually all of the problems over there today. We need to exit the middle east completely. Let them have a diplomat here, if they need something, they can stroll on over and ask.

I repeat, we have been immoral to the middle east and we need to get our fingers out of their pie right now. Perhaps someday we can have a government that is righteous enough to trot out on the world stage. But not today, no sir. This is an embarrassment to any patriotic red blooded american.

Attacked? He‘s lucky he wasn’t impaled for all the good the US has been to the Syrian people this year.
Flap Mouth Obama finally recommended sanction on Syria after 1000 or more were murdered in the streets! Isn’t that typical of this arrogant fool? The Syrian government is murdering people in the street and this jerk decides we can help the people by cutting off trade and investment. He jerk doesn’t know how to build an economy but he sure know how to use economy as w weapon. (But if you’re black, I guess you have to vote black-beats the s*** out of taking responsibility for the society where you live.)

Obama mouth could care less if another 100 dozen Syrians die. Typical spoiled brat, thumb-sucking, bed wetting, mama’s boy.

The first thing I would do if I were Ford is get me some better Body guards.
Those guards are worthless. Indeed this Administration has turned the World
against us, and us against ouselves.

So much for bringing our Country together and Boy that Apoligizing for us has really worked our well.
