- Commerce Secretary John Bryson was found alone and unconscious after three car crashes in two cities.
- Bryson was cited for felony hit and run.
- No serious injuries were reported. However, Bryson remains hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
- Preliminary reports are negative on presence of alcohol or drugs. Blood test results are still pending.
A member of President Obama’s cabinet is in the hospital this morning after being found alone and unconscious in his car following some rather strange driving behavior. Commerce Secretary John Bryson is alleged to have left the scene after causing three car crashes (hitting one of the cars twice). Bryson has been cited for felony hit-and-run.
Police in San Gabriel, CA told CNN that Bryson was at the wheel of a Lexus when that car struck a Buick with three men. The car Bryson reportedly hit was stopped at a railroad crossing, waiting for the tracks to clear. The Secretary spoke with the men in the car and then left the scene of the accident, but not before hitting the Buick again. The Buick followed Bryson’s car as he drove away, with the occupants calling 911.
Published reports from the local police state that Secretary Bryson continued to drive a short distance to the town of Rosemead where he hit a Honda before driving off. Police state that the victims in Buick sustained only minor injuries and were treated by paramedics, while the couple in the Honda refused any medical treatment.
The Associated Press is reporting that the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. and the San Gabriel Police are releasing joint statements on the investigation from the accidents that happened around 5pm on Saturday. A report from early Monday morning quotes Deputy Tony Moore on Bryson’s hospitalization:
“As far as we know he is still admitted.”
Additional information about the hospital where John Bryson is receiving treatment and his condition have not be released. Bryson’s office at the Commerce Department has not responded to requests for a statement on the situation. There was no immediate indication that alcohol or drugs were a factor.
The Commerce Secretary was appointed last October by President Obama. The 68-year old Bryson came to the administration after serving as chairman of Edison International from 1990 to 2008.
Shortly before 10am (EST), the Commerce Department released information on this story. As reported by the Washington Post:
A Commerce department spokeswoman said Bryson apparently suffered a seizure, and was hospitalized overnight for examination. It was not immediately clear whether the seizure cause the collisions, or may have resulted from them. Police in California said that if there was a medical reason for the car accidents, Bryson likely would not be prosecuted.
The Blaze will continue to follow this breaking story and update as needed.

Report Post »Is there anyone with a functioning brain cell who doesn’t think he was drunk?
Of course, he will get special treatment, and skate.
I expect to hear, “There is no evidence of alcohol or drugs in his system.”
Translate, “We threw away the sample so he wouldn’t look like a dufus.”

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 7:10pmPretty convenient to ‘pass out’ after being caught. And no history of other seizures. I only wish seizures would explain what the libs are doing to this country. At least seizures can be treated.

He was probably the only person in the whole Obama administration that knew anything about anything- “Commerce” Secretary. Now what are they going to do?

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 8:51amHe should have used the congressman Patrick Kennedy method of evading responsibility. When Kennedy was picked up in Washington DC at 3:00AM driving around erratically and hitting a police car. The police took him into protective custody and refused to administer a sobriety test; he later claimed he was affected by a sleeping pill he took. The power elite took control and he was sent to some posh rehab and never had to face any consequences. BTW a bar worker who stated that she had seen Kennedy leave the bar drunk was targeted by the powerful Kennedy family and their operatives. So the American power elite take care of themselves and will do the same now.

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 8:22amThis is what happens when the Obama administration gets the keys to the car for the alleged purpose of driving us out of the ditch. What is actually happening is they are in such a hurry to find the cliff to drive over they keep running into the cars that are in their way.

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 8:14amCould be medical or psychological; the guy is 68 after all. My uncle used to bowl on a team every week for decades not far from his house, then one day after bowling practice he couldn’t find his way home from the bowling alley. When they found him he was disoriented and scared.

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 3:45pmI must confess that I stand corrected. This story, and follow ups have been spotted on Fox, as expected, but now also BSNBC, and CNN.
Report Post »It is looking to be as I expected that he sustained a seizure. Having been a traffic accident investigator for too many years I have come across a few similar examples. As well, having a mother who became a diabetic in her late 40s as well my wife has been a diabetic since the age of 9, I understand how either can affect a person while driving. I certainly hope that he is doing well now. My only concern was a potential cover up by the administration along with the willing media that would just allow the story to fade away.

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 7:30amWell …Because John Bryson allegedly was driving a Buick..
When these accidents occurred …
.
And because a Buick is a GM product…
And Because…GM received a BAIL-OUT…
I deduce that AGAIN… It’s Bush’s fault …!

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 8:04amI think the second hit on the car is not as bad as it sounds. I bet he clipped the car as he pulled around it. Maybe that was due to a stroke or maybe he was just flustered from the 1st collision.
Question. How safe is it to stay at the scene of an accident? Much safer given that people have cell phones. Do you want to be around 3 possibly angry men? People have advised not pulling over for a cop but to head for a gas station or other public place. There have been people who have impersonated cops. Maybe the same thing applies here. This isn’t exactly hit & run. He stopped & he talked to them. What is the character of that conversation?
