U.S. Embassy Warning: ‘Imminent Threat’ in Gulf of Aqaba Region

From Reuters via Yahoo! News:
AMMAN (Reuters) – The U.S. embassy in Jordan warned its citizens on Wednesday against traveling to the port city of Aqaba, citing an “imminent” threat.
The U.S. warning published at www.jordan.usembassy.gov says “credible information has been received regarding a possible imminent threat in the Gulf of Aqaba region.”
“The U.S. Embassy recommends that all non-official and personal travel to Aqaba be deferred for at least the next 48 hours,” the statement said without elaborating.
Last month, the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv told U.S. citizens traveling to the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat that they needed to know where the nearest bomb shelter was.
The warning angered the Israeli government which said that the alert should apply to next door Aqaba.
There was no immediate official Jordanian reaction.
Diplomats say the latest travel advisory was prompted by heightened security concerns after rockets from Egypt’s Sinai, where Islamist militants have operated in the past, hit Israel‘s and Jordan’s Red Sea ports on August 2, killing a Jordanian civilian and injuring three others.
Following the rocket attacks, the U.S. embassy said it was “unaware of any additional threats to U.S. citizens resulting from the incident but would continue to monitor the situation.”
Al Qaeda has been active in Jordan and has carried out attacks there in the past.
In April 2005, the Abdullah Azzam Brigades militant group linked to al Qaeda claimed responsibility for a failed attempt to strike two U.S. warships in Aqaba with rockets. The rockets hit a warehouse and a hospital, killing one Jordanian soldier.
The attack which narrowly missed the USS Ashland and its sister ship the USS Kearsarge was the most serious on U.S. targets in the staunchly pro-Western kingdom since the killing of U.S. diplomat Lawrence Foley in Amman in 2002.
Jordanian militants linked to al Qaeda have been blamed for several plots in recent years to attack Western targets and government installations in the kingdom.
Jordan’s close U.S. ties and its 1994 peace accord with Israel are unpopular with many in the conservative kingdom and there is strong support for Islamist militants in some areas.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 4:05pmI pray for the citizens of this region. A rocket hit a street outside a hotel in Aqaba on August 2nd and an explosion in Sahab on September 2nd.
US citizens were issued this warning on August 19th (actually listed as worldwide warning): http://jordan.usembassy.gov/acs_wmsg_081910.html
I didn’t hear any additional info about who was involved in this attack or who was involved making the threat today, but here is the statement from DOS about the threat:
“Credible information has been received regarding a possible imminent threat in the Gulf of Aqaba region. The U. S. Embassy recommends that all non-official and personal travel to Aqaba be deferred for at least the next 48 hours. For those U.S. citizens resident in Aqaba, the downtown and port areas should be avoided if possible.”

Just like Michael Moore and his rant about the mosque . If he hates this country so bad why don`t he go try to get a job in Cuba . Castro is getting rid of 500,000 govt workers . We are turning communist and they are becoming like we once were . Next thing u know the ACLU will be trying to sneak in with the boat people .

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 10:28amDanglingbags- You continue to inject Obama’s religion into most areas. In an earlier post you wrote about our refusal to acknowledge his Christianity. I will say again, we can only speculate that Obama is an apostate of Islam. A child born to an Islamic father is by birthright Islamic. So, let’s assume he is an apostate. He is certainly not a Christian. A Christian would never endorse infanticide. A Christian would never legislate and fund Abortion. A Christian would never stand on the Senate floor and argue against the “born alive infant protection act” A Christian does not believe in collective salvation, it goes completely against the Christian faith. Last week Obama spoke about “bad Angels” in regards to the Koran burning, Only in Islam are their angels with sin. There are no sinful Angels in Christianity. He speaks continually of “five pillars” only in Islam are their 5 symbolic pillars. He sponsored the Islamic “Halal food Act” Senate bill 750 and the most beautiful sound he has ever heard is the call to the Islamic Gd. He sat in the pews of a Black Liberation Theology Church which is not compatible with Christianity. So, we can speculate on whether he is an apostate of Islam we can be absolutely certain he is not a Christian.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 6:20pm“So, we can speculate on whether he is an apostate of Islam we can be absolutely certain he is not Christian.”
Much like how we can speculate whether or not Glenn Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990.
He has never admitted to it, we can only speculate upon the fact that several girls were raped and murdered in 1990 and Glenn Beck was alive during that time.
So its doesn’t matter if he raped them or not, we can only speculate that he did murder them.

Report Post »Not every Christian believes as you do…some of my views are different from your but I hold close my Christian faith as much as you do. Perhaps that is the way the President feels…..there are many paths to God and no one path is better or more accepted by Christ than another. The way you stated what you wrote insinuated that one Christian faith is better than another Christian faith. You need to learn to love your neighbor, especially if that neighbor is a Christian with different views.
