U.S. Post Office in Maryland Kicks Out Christmas Carolers

Did the United States Postal Service ban Christmas carolers from singing indoors? Apparently a branch in Silver Spring, Maryland, recently went so far as to “kick” carolers out. The office’s manager interrupted the singers in mid-tune and told them that they weren’t allowed to perform on government property.
While some would dismiss this story as a tall tale or a concocted attempt at legitimizing the War on Christmas, a spokesperson for the USPS confirmed that the incident did, indeed, happen after three carolers entered the building and began to carol. According to the spokesperson, the carolers had “beautiful voices,” but they were not permitted to sing in the lobby. In an interview with Fox News & Commentary, the spokesperson said:
“Public assembly and public address, except when conducted or sponsored by the Postal Service, are prohibited in lobbies and other interior areas open to the public.
We have rules and regulations governing conduct on postal property. The only reason you should be inside is for postal business.”

But the carolers were confused, as they claim that they’ve been performing at the shopping center that houses the post office for years. In fact, they say they’ve even performed inside of the post office before without incident. When they tried to explain this to postal employees, they failed and were asked to leave.
JP Duffy, an employee of the Family Research Council, was in line with his wife and daughter at the time of the incident. Here’s what he had to say about it:
“They were only a few notes into their carol when suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a scowling postal manager rushing to confront the carolers.
“He told them that they had to leave immediately because they were violating the post office’s policy against solicitation. He told them they couldn’t do this on government property. He said: ‘You can’t go into Congress and sing and you can’t do it here either.’”
Duffy went on to say that the customers booed the postal worker who kicked the carolers out. He also stated his belief that this is another example of religion being taken out of the public square.
“This postal manager has clearly received the memo which has led him to stamp out Christmas caroling,” Duffy said. ”But I have my own memo to all the Christmas carolers out there. Let’s not surrender to the secularist version of Christmas future.”

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 8:21pmIt’s so sad that Christmas Carol Singers are thrown out of a PostOffice. What is our country coming too. In Israel, the Prime Minister is holding Bible Studies in His office and yet we here in America are throwing out Christmas Carol Singers. I think it’s so sad and if we do not turn back to God as a nation, the Lord is going to judge our country. We need leaders who have a true knowledge and love for God just like our founding fathers. I believe it was God who raised up our founding fathers to create America. I thank God I was born here and not in a place like Saudi Arabia where people have their heads cut off. I’m thankful to have been born in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Donna

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 8:52pmThis is not a “Christian nation”. Where in the costitution does it read that we are? Just because the founding fathers were, does not mean that we are a “Christian nation”. Common sence is not exclusive to Christianity.

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 9:15pmThere is more to America than just the Constitution. Christianity has had an important part in our nations founding and its upbringing. Just because we are a Christian Nation however, does not mean we need to preach Christianity. What it does mean is that we follow the “Christian Values” in our country. People need to realize that. I don’t care if you are a Christian or not. But I DO care if you are being rude or immoral in public. America has been, and forever will be, a Christian Nation

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 5:53pmAnd the the ghost of the lawyer from Miracle on 34th Street appeared in the Post Master’s office trailed by 50 couriers from FedEd carrying bags and bags of overnight letters.
The lawyer told the couriers thank you and that they could leave. The Post Master asked the ghost of the lawyer from Miracle on 34th Street what that was all about and why did they walk in with all those bags, then walk out still carrying those same bags?
The ghost of the lawyer from Miracle on 34th Street told the Post Master that that’s the business the USPS will be losing to FedEx, and there‘s a 1000 more couriers outside with thousand’s more bags.
Then the ghost of Edmund Gwenn… Santa Claus from Miracle on 34th Street from appeared to the Post Master while chuckling and said… ho-ho-hee-hee-heh-heh… and the best part IS… FedEx is non-union!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A NON-UNION CHRISTMAS!!

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 5:38pmOnce again, freedom OF religion means the Federal govt (specifically Congress) CANNOT make any law prohibiting the free practice of religion. This restriction extends to all the many agencies of the Federal govt., including the Post Office (though it is nominally a privately owned entity, it is a charter of the federal govt. under Congress).
This story represents an unconstitutional act on the part of the Post Office.
(note: this restriction cuts in ALL directions as it applies equally to ALL religions).

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 5:32pmI think we should occupy all Post Offices with multiple singers while we all wait in line to buy a stamp to put on a letter. Once you get the ONE stamp, mail the letter and get back in line to buy another one…Everyone sings as they wait and get back in line to do it again…..HAHA HO HO….Maybe it would speed up the lines I would do it, but I cant hold a tune in the bucket…

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 5:30pmI could have sworn the head of the post office said they were not owned by the government but in this artical the manager said that the singers weren’t allowed on government property. Can’t have it both ways!! BTW this is sarcasim to an extent because I know as well as everyone else that USPS is a government agency trying to be seen as a private business! As a business owner I can allow anyone on my property I want and if I didn‘t want singers on it I would ask them to leave too but I wouldn’t tell them it’s because of Government property! I am sure he did this because he didn’t want his employees to be mad since most of the ones at my post office are not originally from this country!

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 5:22pmthey can‘t go in to congress and sing and they can’t do it at the government owned union run post office, but you can storm in to either and protest that you bought a house you couldn’t afford and charged up credit cards that you never intended to pay back, and demand that congress let them just live in their house for free and that taxpayers pay off their credit cards, what is a shame, is here in bryan texas they use to put up wooden chirstmas displays, but now no way, they have fallen prey to the communist left that thinks everyone should be just like them, but i have to tell them i am not and never will be like them,i still put up my christmas nativity scene, and decorate my house and yard, i still say Merry Christmas,i still Pray and Praise God and if that offends someone to bad,to stop by my house and just walk on by when i am singing, because it is not intended for you.

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 5:13pmAnd the Post Office wonders why they are losing business. Maybe its because we are all tired of the lousy service, and disrepect to us as individuals. I rarely do business with the Post Office, and if I could, I would stop all service. I do more online, and if I need to ship anything, I ship UPS or Fed-Ex. I bought forever stamps a couple years ago, and I still have hundreds of stamps. The Post Office is just learning to follow the way of the liberals in this country – take away everything, and demand more money for doing so.
