U.S. Protesters Take to the Streets to Support Egyptians

CHICAGO (AP) — Thousands of people in Egypt who flooded streets in riots calling for President Hosni Mubarak to step down were joined Saturday by relatives and supporters at protests in major American cities.

“Mubarak will go. If not today, then tomorrow,” Magdy Al-Abady, 39, of Chicago, said during a demonstration downtown in front of the Egyptian consulate’s office. The genomics researcher, with an Egyptian flag draped over his shoulders, said his brother and parents were protesting in Egypt and he was speaking often with his brother.

Protesters also gathered outside the United Nations complex in New York City, filled the street in front of the Egyptian embassy in Washington and marched through downtown San Francisco to show solidarity with the uprising.

In Chicago, picketers marched and chanted, “Hey Mubarak you will see, all Egyptians will be free.“ They held signs that said ”Victory to the Egyptian people“ and ”Freedom and Justice for all Egyptians.”

Al-Abady said he wants President Barack Obama to support the Egyptian people.

“He must say very clearly that he does not support Mubarak,” Al-Abady said. “Mubarak is not Egypt. The Egyptians are not Mubarak.”

The crowd in New York called for the international community to support the popular uprising and abandon Mubarak.

Dahlia Ashour, a native of the Egyptian capital of Cairo who still has family in Egypt, said she was disappointed Obama hadn’t made a forceful statement in support of the protesters. “He should be standing by the people, not by the regime,” she said.

Ahmed Soliman, of Manhattan, said Egypt deserves a leader who is “completely democratic.” He said the riots and massive demonstrations are the result of genuine popular anger, not the work of a scheming opposition party.

“This is coming from the people,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for this to happen. I left Egypt 18 years ago, and I have been dreaming of this day since then.”

In downtown Seattle, protesters carried hand-lettered signs, saying “We‘ll shout until he’s out“ and ”Down, Down Mubarak.”

Dozens gathered in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Mass., to peacefully protest, waving Egyptian flags, holding signs and chanting for Mubarak to step down as they marched toward Boston.

In San Francisco, a crowd crammed into a small plaza waving Egyptian flags and raising chants in English and Arabic against Mubarak. Demonstrators said they were not placated by Mubarak’s decision Saturday to name his intelligence chief as his first-ever vice president.

Basma Hassan, 35, a Chicago student and mother, waved the Egyptian flag and said she wants the Egyptian people to know they have support in the United States.

“We feel their pain,” she said. “We don’t want anyone to think we betrayed them.”

Associated Press reporters March R. Wohlsen in San Francisco and Jessica Gresko in Washington contributed to this report. AP staff photographer Ted S. Warren contributed from Seattle.

I’m sure the Muslim Brotherhood and the Code Pink sympathizers are not letting this crisis go to waste by seeming to side with the legitimate protests of the Egyptian people in order to usher in their Muslim Brotherhood Islamic State in Egypt.

The Code Pink and Muslim Brotherhood useful idiots have been frequent visitors to the White House. I wonder what they’ve been talking about? Nothing good, I’m sure of that.

Read this article. It will give you some insight into where the sympathies of Hamas-linked-Muslim Brotherhood-linked CAIR lies:

    http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2011/01/muslims-brotherhood-proxy-cair-on-fox-pushing-for-overthrow-in-egypt.html

Here’s an excerpt from the article:

The Islamic supremacist Ahmed Rehab is on FOX denouncing Mubarak, advocating for overthrow.

Rehab is in Egypt right now. How coincidental. The American Muslim Brotherhood in America is in Egypt as the Muslim Brotherhood plots to take over that secular Arab country.

Rehab: “It pains me that my own government back home supports a dictator…..”

Horrible. We expect this from the leftist apologist cable networks, but FOX is dangerous because they pretend to get it.

CAIR has been sending out press releases pushing Obama to push Mubarak out (so, inevitably, ElBaradei, Iran and the Brotherhood can take over).

If anyone can get video — please send it. FOX must stop this propagandizing for the Brotherhood via CAIR. Or at least identify them as such. Why do they cover for them?

CAIR on the Iranian revolution back in June 2009: CAIR: Iran? Nothing to see, keep moving

    ~

Hamas-linked Muslim Brotherhood-linked CAIR must think we are all dhimmis and don‘t know what’s going on here in America where they are infiltrating our government, training our Counter Terrorism Agents, propping up the 35 Jamaat ul-Fuqra camps in America, and aiding and abetting the infiltratration of our southern borders with the al Qaeda and the Hizbollah by not enforcing the law.

Fox News, what’s wrong with you? Why are you catering to these terrorists in suits who are bringing stealth Sharia and Jihad to America and trying to shut us up with their demands for our PC while they’re killing us?

80 % of Egyptians wouldn‘t know how to spell ’democracy’. Those who do reject it.

Andrew G. Bostom (Big Peace on a tip from TT)

A sobering reminder—based upon hard data—from an essay of mine published in April, 2007:

In a rigorously conducted face-to-face University of Maryland/ WorldPublicOpinion.org interview survey of 1000 Egyptian Muslims conducted between December 9, 2006 and February 15, 2007, 67% of those interviewed-more than 2/3, hardly a “fringe minority”-desired this outcome (i.e., “To unify all Islamic countries into a single Islamic state or Caliphate”). The internal validity of these data about the present longing for a Caliphate is strongly suggested by a concordant result: 74% of this Muslim sample approved the proposition “To require a strict [emphasis added] application of Shari’a law in every Islamic country.”

Yesterday Brigitte Gabriel said it on Hannity/Fox. Unfortunately I couldn’t locate the video, but I’m certain if we had a poll today the numbers would be even higher.

First off, your assumption of a completely illiterate Egypt is wrong. Egypt has made considerable progress in education within the last few decades. For example, according to UNICEF, the female youth literacy rate is at 82% and the male youth literacy rate is 90%. The overall Egyptian literacy rate is 72% and that number is low in great deal to the older generations.
      http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/egypt_statistics.html
A lot of people throw around the buzzword “Islamic caliphate” without trying to define the term. First off, the definition of the Caliphate is a lot harder to pinpoint than one would think. The role of the Caliphate has fluctuated greatly over time. In general, I would define it more of a uniting political position. The modern concept is almost entirely secular. The idea of the application of sharia is likewise ambiguous. With numerous theological schools, sharia interpretation varies greatly from the fanatical Wahhabis from the Hanbali school, to the much more moderate Maliki school.

First of all, the youth of Egypt have clearly expressed their desire for free and open elections. Do you realize that it is insulting to the people of Egypt to say that you don’t think they are capable of governing themselves, and furthermore, to indicate that they somehow do not deserve to be free? Secondly, the people in the streets are from as diverse a background as the tea party. You don’t like it when people generalize about the tea party, so do not generalize about the people who are seeking freedom from a dictatorship.

Not every body is going to think the same, but I have seen many vids where they are calling for individual rights and freedom for ALL, not just Muslims, naming Christians AND Atheists.

From what I’ve seen of the protests in American cities, 1 cant help but have a strong feeling they were prepared for this a while ago – perhaps from the beginning of the unrest in Tunisia. How could all of those signs, that look rather professionally printed/assembled to me, just suddenly be available, complete with the exact same slogan and phone numbers on all of them? Is there a ‘protest-sign fairy’ who magically knows what groups of people to drop them to by the truckloads? And how far will these protests extend and for how long in the US? Egypt isn’t alone; next could be Yemen, Jordan, then….?? Hmmm….I‘m willing to bet the ’protest-sign fairy is already stocking up on signs to hand out to the next group. Hopefully, they will remain peaceful here, as I worry about what will happen if some nutjobs in a protest crowd in New York, Chicago or D.C. decides to see how far they can push any police or, worse yet, go to a protest all wired up dreaming to meet 72 virgins….

This only brings our purchase of gulf oil to about 19 percent. Prices would go up for awhile but our supplies would be gotten from other sources not in the Middle East. Actually, we don’t NEED to buy oil from the mid-east at all. We only do it for political reasons.

This revolution going on in Egypt was sparked in part by the brutal killing of Coptic Christians by the muslim Brotherhood a few weeks ago. What followed was a protest by Christians and Muslims in solidarity with the Christians, which gives us some hope that radical Islamists might not have the upper hand. And ElBaradai, one of the opposition leaders is not an Islamic radical. This week there was a group of Muslim Brotherhood chanting Allah Akbar, but a much larger group of protesters answered back saying “we are Egyptians, Christians and Muslims, we are Egyptians” which is very hopeful. We could do a lot worse than Mubarak, but over 30 years of rule is a long time. What happens next is anybodies guess. We do live in very interesting times.

We’ll be fighting in the streets

And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgment of all wrong

I’ll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution

For I know that the hypnotized never lie

      Do ya?

      There’s nothing in the street
      Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right

@ click4cheapandeasyweb: “My gut tells me that the bad guys are using the people of Egypt under the guise of Freedom and Democracy, to overthrow the government. Then hell is unleashed on the people.”

You are not alone in your thinking…AND…unfortunately I believe you are right! The Muslim Brotherhood assassinated Sadat…AND…they are waiting in the wings…

Of course we know the Egyptian people want a Democracy…But…as we know all too well…A DEMOCRACY can be defined as a “Mob Rule”…there needs to be a COMPLETE replacement of those in power if a TRUE Democracy is to happen…the MB won’t allow this chance to pass them by! Then we are ALL in deep trouble! Mubarak kept the people (including Radical Islam) in line…NOT ANY MORE…He was the stabling factor…he tolerated Israel…We should all pray that this ends well…

A few corrections. There is little, if any correlation between the Coptic Church bombing and these current protests, which are in large part connected to the success of the Tunisian protests. The other thing is the Coptic Church bombing is in NO WAY connected to the Muslim Brotherhood. While no group has claimed responsibility for it, the Egyptian government has blamed the Army of Islam, a Gaza based fringe group. With that being said it is the Egyptian government’s modus operandi to blame outside groups to gloss over tensions within Egypt. Still, there is no possible connection between the bombing and the Muslim Brotherhood.

You are gonna love these… (not really)

      Schedule of Classes

Sat., Feb 5: The Socialist Alternative to the Criminal Capitalist System
What is Socialism? Is Capitalism “fair” and democratic? How can we win jobs, education, health care, housing and more?

Sat., Feb 12: Imperialism & War: The Case of Afghanistan
What are the root causes of endless war? Why has the Obama administration escalated the war in Afghanistan? How can we stop the war machine?

Sat., Feb 19: How to Defeat Racism and Oppression
The African American Struggle for Liberation; Full Equality for Immigrants, Women and LGBT People

Sat., Feb 26: Revolution and Socialism in Latin America
      Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, …

Sat., March 5: Is a Revolution Possible in the U.S. and What Would it Look Like?
Is Capitalism the final stage of history? What would it take to make Socialism a reality in the U.S.? What is the program of the Party for Socialism and Liberation?

This is the reality of Capitalism. It is a dictatorship of the rich: Workers and poor people find it harder and harder to get a job, pay the rent, get a decent education. Millions go without health care, housing and the basic necessities in the richest country in the history of the world. Racism is promoted in the mass media. Oppression and police brutality plague our communities. Washington wages endless war against poor nations in order to dominate natural resources and world trade. A tiny minority of bankers and Wall Street billionaires get massive government handouts while vital services are under attack and the vast majority are getting poorer. http://www.chicagoanswer.net/

There is much more at play here than simply seeking democracy. I fear this is a code word to influence freedom loving people to get behind whatever the shadow group is trying to take over. When has Egypt ever been a democracy or attempted to become one in the past. Something stinks about this whole situation. There is at least one other theory that may be positive. That these middle eastern countries have been watching the progress of democratic rule in Iraq and they want some of that. I know it is unlikely that this is the catalyst, but I hope it is true as opposed to many other scenarios.

This has nothing to do with Democracy. Its all about creating more chaos. Chaos in some other part of the world is an opportunity for Mr. and Mrs. Progressive (Soros and Piven) to do the same here. All they need is a worthy cause. Get ready for more of this. And get ready for the government to creat an excuse to intervene at some point.

Be careful of any support for ElBaradai (ex head of the IAEA who helped Iran get the A bomb) to replace Mubarek. Elbaradei has been a strong champion of the Muslim Brotherhood. Just this week he gave an interview to Der Spiegel defending the jihadist movement. As he put it, “We should stop demonizing the Muslim Brotherhood. …[T]hey have not committed any acts of violence in five decades. They too want change. If we want democracy and freedom, we have to include them instead of marginalizing them.”

We wary of MB and their supporters who fear the truth of history because they can’t control it. Well, the bones have risen

This historic interview on Israel National Radio lays bare pre-Abrahamic history (via archeology and artifacts) and exposes the truth of Islam as resurgent bloodthirsty cult Baal worship under the guise of a pseudo-monotheistic “religion”

@davecoolworld – the problem is, the president isn’t going to talk his way out of this. He’s been waiting 2 years for riots, now he has a class of people who are willing to stand in the cold and protest. His next line is, “I Hear You”.

This acitivity is giving the New Democratic Communist Party fired up for what’s to come this spring when the weather is warm for protesting.

Why protest here? Go to Egypt and protest. We are not responsible for Egypt. The real problem there is the economy and high unemployment most caused by the US inflating our money. When we devalue our money it ripples through all countries and their prices go up even more than ours do.

I say let countries EARN it. If they want freedom they have to fight for it and fight to keep it. We have been lazy here, but luckily we haven’t “lost” it. But that is what the Tea Party is for. To restore Freedom in a country founded on Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Encourage the parts of these protests who desire Freedom, more then another dictator or power hungry organization like the Muslim Brotherhood. Positives can come from this if people from that country can access the materials needed to educate the people.

Leave them alone and let them sort it out. The country will probably end up as an islamic craphole. The people in that part of the world have never been able to govern themselves. Iraq and Afganistan will end up the same way. Time to pull back and secure our borders. Israel has the bomb and will no doubt have to use it. The US is still that last hope for freedom because their are enough people in America that understand (or are waking up to) what they have to do to combat the evil forces at work in the world.

You folks walk around yelling about the Tea Party and about fighting tyranny, but when you see the common man rise up against a tyrant in real life, you all run around like chickens with your heads cut off! Must be radical islamicists, must be communists, must be an Obama plot, there must be some way in which they are anti-American…. Really pathetic folks. It just goes to show you that the average Tea Party-er wouldn’t know a real democratic revolution if it came up and bit them in the butt!
