U.S. Reportedly Preparing to Slap Iran With Additional Sanctions

The United States is reportedly preparing to hit Iran with additional sanctions following a report that Iran appeared to be working on designing an atomic bomb and may be carrying out related testing and research.

Sources told Reuters Friday the U.S. plans to sanction Iran’s petrochemical industry and is likely to get other countries on board as well.

Reuters reported:

The sources, who said the sanctions could be unveiled as early as Monday, said the Washington wanted to find a way to bar foreign companies from aiding Iran’s petrochemical industry with the threat of depriving them access to the U.S. market.

While European nations typically resent “extra-territorial” U.S. sanctions on their companies, the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said in this case the Europeans would likely follow suit, though not immediately.

White House press secretary Jay Carney had previously said the U.S. would be increasing pressure on Iran to cease its nuclear weapon ambitions, though did not provide details. The White House has not commented on the latest sanction reports.

On Saturday, the brother of an Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander killed during an explosion at a weapons depot last week told state media the commander had been testing an intercontinental missile.

The U.S. approved sanctions last year that targeted Iran’s energy and banking sectors, and now going after the country’s financial sector appears to be a possibility, according to Reuters:

The sources said there had also been discussion of sanctions on the Iranian financial sector, possibly by limiting certain transactions through the Iranian central bank, but not through a blanket effort to cut it off entirely.

While U.S. officials last week said the idea of cutting off the Iranian central bank entirely was off the table for now, several sources said there had been consideration of more limited measures.

Israel has ramped up talk in recent weeks about a possible strike against Iran’s nuclear weapons program, with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak saying they would not “take any option off the table.”

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta planned to warn Barak on Friday that a military strike against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure could have serious economic consequences, Fox News reported.

But according to Fox, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey said a military option is not out of the question.

“I don’t choose to talk about our discussions with our Israeli partners, but I will tell you we are on a dual-track approach, economic and diplomatic, with never taking the military option off the table. And I think that’s the right place to be,” Dempsey said.

Let us never forget fellow Americans (at least I hope so), our other fellow Americans voted this leftist, liberal manchild into office and they are poised and ready to do it again.
They knew he was a pawn for the socialist liberals in America, they were told, but they did not listen. They are still being told everyday, the facts are out there-easily available, but they continue to support him and his buddies of evil.
No matter how bad it gets, they will never listen, they are the same as domestic abuse victims, they will keep taking him back, until we are all dead.

I think one of our biggest suppliers is Canada, you know, our woosey neighbors to the north, who have slant drilling rigs, that suck the oil out of America’s side of the border, pump it into barrels & pipelines and sell it back to us at an inflated price and Congress does nothing about it, because they don’t want oil rigs on American soil.
Does anyone remember why the Dept. of Energy was formed over 40 years ago; to get us off foreign imported oil. But then the leftist liberal enviro-nazis took over and our dependence has grown every year. Sending good paying jobs to other countries.
How do you feel about the Nobama regime giving Brazil hundreds of millions of dollars to drill for oil in the Atlantic Ocean, so they can sell it too us. No Oil rigs in American waters, so we don’t see a repeat of the Gulf spill. In case most of us don’t know it, the Atlantic Ocean that is off of Brazil, is not the same Atlantic Ocean that is off our Eastern seaboard and the ocean currents off Brazil, would never affect our Ocean, even if it was the same Atlantic Ocean. My grandson said his teacher told them, that it was not the same ocean, so don’t worry.
Does anyone appreciate the FACT, that mother nature naturally seeps more oil into the oceans, everyday, than all the last 10 oil spills, COMBINED.
Shame on you Mother Nature, you will be receiving a very bad scolding from Barry and his crowd very shortly, so be prepared to suffer the wrath of the liberals.

It’s about time, but remember, gasoline prices are going to go a LOT higher, because we and much of the world are now coming out of recession/depression. The stimulated demand will not relent until the price of gasoline mitigates the rebound out of recession. At the same time, the stimulus package after-effects will continue to reverbrate and finally come home to roost. We have not seen much inflation yet, but it is coming. Gasoline could easily be 5 dollars or more per gallon by the summer.

How long do you think the American economy would last if gasoline suddenly went to $10 or $11 per gallon?

I read some conjecture by some crude oil analysts last week that are saying that the world price of crude oil would rise nearly 25% in just the first few hours of an attack on Iran and that the price of crude oil could wind up at $275 to $300 per barrel.

A sudden, sharp increase in the price of gasoline by several dollars per gallon would be just like an instant and dramatic tax increase.

If you think there’s a lot of unemployment now, then you ain‘t seen nothin’ yet if that happens.

Oh boy, sanctions on Iran. Where we are today is a result of the effectiveness of the 1996 Iran-Libya Sanctions Act, which was put in place to solve this exact same problem. (Libya was added to the sanctions at the last minute because the Pan Am 103 bombing occurred.)

Obama has made some major blunders which have moved the potential for a diplomatic resolution of the situation further away rather than closer, including pushing us to this stand-off. Any sanctions now with any real ‘bite’ will probably be avoided, else we risk Iran simply closing the Straits of Hormuz which would ignite military action since a third of the world’s oil flows through those straits.

I’d hate to be an attack-sub commander in the Gulf of Oman right now; there must be a virtual traffic jam with missile subs from the U.S., Russia, China and Israel in the area.

Our Military has done enough to make some people THINK Obama look
like he knows something about Foreign affairs. But you could tell from the
length of time it took him to try and help Libya he doesn’t know anything.
Killing Bin laden all he had to do was answer Yes or no when the Military
