UAW Union Protesters Shut Down Detroit Bank of America

Last week you saw SEIU protesters take over a bank in Stroudsburg, PA when they stormed a lobby in an effort to call out a CEO. Then you learned that a former (maybe) SEIU official hatched a secret plan to target JP Morgan Chase through massive loan defaults. Now we have video of United Auto Workers (UAW) protesters staging a rally outside a Bank of America in Detroit on Thursday. The gathering was so large it shut down the branch for 30 minutes.
Chants of “Money for schools, not for banks!“ and ”That’s not right!” echoed throughout the street as UAW president Bob King accused the bank of not paying taxes:
MLive.com reporter Jonathan Oosting points out that King’s railings may not be entirely accurate:
“In 2009, Bank of America made 4.4 billion dollars,” he told the crowd. “Can you guess what they paid in taxes? Not a nickel.”
Reports indicate Bank of America did not pay federal taxes in 2009 because it posted a net loss, not the profit King suggested, but critics argue the company is scheming the system. A spokesman told the Detroit Free Press the bank repaid all of it’s $45 billion government bailout and paid more than $40 billion in taxes between 2000 and 2009.
The protest was part of the UAW’s national convention. WXYZ-TV reports the convention hosted liberal stalwarts such as Danny Glover and Ed Schultz. It also captured one of the union’s favorite chants:
The march even included a new, yet still unoriginal, chant:
It’s unclear, as reader John B. says, why the union decries the bank bailout and yet is silent about that auto industry’s own suckling from the government coffers. But at least one thing this past week was made clear (if it wasn’t already) — the unions are on a campaign against America’s financial institutions.

From my memory of elementary school I was taught math and the ABCs. Now it appears that teachers would rather teach the NEA agenda. You know something……people should really become aware of who they elect to the School Board. This is where the problems begin. Local activism is the answer and becoming aware of the local School Board and their members.

I have to agree with you. Something here is out of whack, and the number of demonstrations with the unions – especially now against the banks, appear to be well coordinated. I have to wonder what the makers of the econ terrorist against JP Morgan and the NYSE also have hatched to ramp up even more pressure, and as contingency plans in the event one or more fail to mature in desired ends.
Do not expect the administration or the DOJ to do anything here in any union or econ terrorist plots, they most likely will allow them to proceed forward, unless it becomes politically expedient to hang them out to dry for a larger ending.

” [In explaining the "true" nature of banking in the world] The IBBC is a bank. Their objective isn’t to control the conflict, it’s to control the debt that the conflict produces. You see, the real value of a conflict, the true value, is in the debt that it creates. You control the debt, you control everything. You find this upsetting, yes? Very symbolic for communists…Just like the dress Mama Bama wore in Brazil…When is America going to wake up to the fact we have communists at the highest levels of our government?

Posted on March 25, 2011 at 8:30pmThey must have heard the bank was giving out free tissues. Seems to me the bullies needed them to wipe away their tears and runny noses after being body slammed after their power was challenged and the public found out about the outrageous benefits they receive. They’ve been spanked like a spoiled brat, and deservedly so. Time to get back to basics and earn an honest living like the other 80% of the working population.

Posted on March 25, 2011 at 9:19pmI have never seen the “good side” of unions, only the bad. I know my mom told me how her union (40 years ago) went to bat for her in a dispute with a manager, but that’s the last time I heard of someone being actually helped by a union. Plenty of stories about them refusing to help because “you got a higher wage than you deserve, so shut up.”
Report Post »I had to cross a picket line once as a teenager driving a delivery truck for a construction company. If I hadn’t crossed, 35 guys in our company were going to get laid off that day. Plenty of union thugs literally beating on my truck with baseball bats; it scared the hell outta me. Had my order fullfilled by guys in white shirts and ties, running the forklifts. Then they snuck me out the back entrance to avoid the mob. Nope. Never seen the good side of a union, although I’m told by rational people that there is a good reason they exist. Noe one is giving any convincing evidence of the good they perform for their members or society. I firmly believe the time for labor unions has passed. I will not take a union job, unless it were the last job to be had and my family would otherwise starve. Prostitution would feel cleaner.

Posted on March 25, 2011 at 9:33pmThe only taxes they pay are the ones we the taxpayer put into their pay checks. So they pay taxes with tax money. The PRIVATE sector UNION/NON-UNION workers are the ones who pay taxes, not the public union worker who is pay with tax money. And damn good wages, sick pay, paid holidays and health care benefits. Our teachers only work 9 months(minus all the holidays)out of the years. and they say “with everything the teachers sacrifice. What do they sacrifice, snow days?

Posted on March 25, 2011 at 11:48pmfirstly NO these people don’t have jobs to go to.. they are day workers hired by the Unions (at least most of them are) and they are paid to stand and hold a sign.. they are told by the orgainizers NOT to talk to the press refer them to a REAL member.. which would make the protesters the ONLY ones actually willing to do the jobs that members don’t want to do..IF you ever get the chance to see a union protest first hand they arrive get shirts.. name tags .. sign in..(so they get paid) and than get signage to carry..told what to say.. The question I have is HAVEN’T any of these not so bright union leaders watched the shows about the FEDS and the BANKS??? Apparently they think there’s real money in them there banks.. or something other than paper worth nothing..

Posted on March 26, 2011 at 2:22amUnions are Spiritual Communists they both do the same thing. Take from all and keep for themselves. And if B of A did not pay taxes then the IRS and the FEDERAL RESERVE would be looking into that but as with all things public lately they are just a bunch of lies giving them cover to justify their feigned anger. And if you should try to expose the truth you better be wearing a complete suit of Armor like the Knights of the 14th Century. Because they will bring the crowbars, tire irons and plumbing pipe to beat your arse.

Posted on March 26, 2011 at 3:21pmI am a 24-yr UAW electrician. I (nor anyone i know) have EVER attended one of these protests, nor have I been aware of ANY of these protests before they happened. I DID attend a T.E.A. party rally in Battle Creek 2 summers ago and I was bummed out that I couldn’t attend the 8/28 rally.
Report Post »These people are NOT rank & file union members. They ARE union appointees and PAID protestors. WE work 45-55 hr weeks minimum. WE don’t have time for union bull****. You could remove every one of these “protestors” and not lose one unit of production. BELIEVE me, I wish there was something I could do to keep them from spending my dues on politics. It’s kind of like SS. You pay in money for a specific purpose. They STEAL your money, use it for unintended purposes & when it’s time to pay your pension & healthcare… ooops, no money. THAT is why they want Obamacare. Then all of the money they’ve stolen, won’t be noticed.

Posted on March 27, 2011 at 11:33amOh, cry me a river why don’t you! Everyone who works in the professional business community has had to go to school (B. A./Masters) in order to enter their selected profession. They didn’t start at the top earning bonuses and high pay – they had to start at the bottom like everyone else and work their way to the top, saving & scrimping for their retirement all the way. So, please tell me – “what” sacrifices have teachers made that is more significant then the ones we have made? I have a mother-in-law and sister-in-law both in the teaching profession who get paid sick days, holidays and are off most of the summer. And according to them, their jobs are so hard because “parents” aren’t as involved with the various school programs as they should be. It don’t matter that BOTH parents are having to work in order to keep their families head above water….
