UFO or Photo Flub? ‘Crazy’ Object Appears Next to Mercury in a Blast of Solar Wind

At the beginning of the month, a camera on NASA’s STEREO spacecraft recorded some unusual footage. It isn’t the coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun that has gained more than 1 million hits on YouTube in the last five days. The attraction is a strange planet-sized object that pops up, seemingly out of nowhere, next to Mercury.

Is This Object Next to Mercury a UFO?

No object present next to Mercury.

Is This Object Next to Mercury a UFO?

CME draws closer and object appears next to planet.

Watch the solar wind blast into view and a glowing object appear on the right side of Mercury. (Note: Video includes some profanity):

As the poster of this YouTube video states, the object seems to be “cloaked” until the CME hits it and it appears next to the planet. siniXster describes the object as “cylindrical on either side and has a shape in the middle”, looking like a manufactured object or ship.

But, holding true to the White House’s statement earlier this year that there have been no cover-ups of aliens or UFOs, Russ Howard, head scientist of the Naval Research Laboratory group, and Nathan Rich, lead ground systems engineer, have a perfectly reasonable explanation for the mysteriously appearing object, according to Space.com:

Rather than a UFO mothership parked near Mercury, the bright spot is “where the planet was on the previous day,” Rich told Life’s Little Mysteries.

To make the relatively faint glow of a coronal mass ejection stand out against the bright glare of space — caused by interplanetary dust and the stellar/galactic background — the NRL scientists must remove as much background light as possible. They explained that they determine what light is background light, and thus can be subtracted out, by calculating the average amount of light that entered each camera pixel on the day of the CME event and on the previous day. Light appearing in the pixels on both days is considered to be background light and is removed from the footage of the CME. The remaining light is then enhanced.

This works great for objects far off in the distance, such as stars, which don’t move much relative to the sun. But it gets a little trickier when trying to account for nearer objects, particularly moving ones, like planets.

“When [this averaging process] is done between the previous day and the current day and there is a feature like a planet, this introduces dark (negative) artifacts in the background where the planet was on the previous day, which then show up as bright areas in the enhanced image,” Rich wrote in an email.

There you have it. NASA says it is not a UFO but simply an “artifact” left over from image processing. What are your thoughts?

It’s one thing to be mis-informed and spread falsehood, entirely another to intentionally deceive. Richard Hogland falls in the latter category.

Try badastronomy.com, or Phil Plait, he debunks all sorts of these things.

My thought and just trowing this out here. It is probably one of the two moons that wasn’t visible because it is to small, but when the flare hit it and projected itself around it, it became visible and looked bigger then what it really is.

      Just my two cents

Did the debunking where I live easier than that, we have a retired astronomer here who dealt with such matters and explained it as described “mercury was here that day/then here this day.”

Forgot to add this; if the darkened spot PER CHANCE was a UFO ship (and its not) do not forget that the gravitational distortion on the solar system would be noticable to the astronomers. There would be a dramatic and noticable change to the orbit of Mercury almost instantly.

Food for thought, and shadows of Messiah.

UFO proponents have over the past 40 or 50 years become commonplace and LESS considered whack nut jobs than in decades past. Current or former theoretical physicists, and in fact, the Church has bought and sold the possibility of life elsewhere. Kooks like Hoagland, and Von Daniken could, and probably are very much right that there is not only life out there, but that earth is the target location they are interested in.

That should be a no big whoop surprise. When I read the transfiguration account, Elijah’s chariot, Ezekiels vision, and others recorded in the Bible, one thing sticks in my mind and won’t stop. In order for the serpent to convince people of his power and gather proselytes away from God, COUNTERFEITING Messianic truth is the way he goes. He’s going to show counterfeit signs and wonders, even calling down fire from heaven. The PHYSICAL likelihood of things appearing in the heavens is extraordinarily high. It’s a deception, and nothing more than a Shadow of the true Messiah. It’s the same battlefield of the flesh warring against the spirit.

I’m more concerned when people dismiss this stuff out of hand because Joe Debunk says so. Deception is impossible without a condemnation against it. Instead, people should look for how the serpent would counterfeit the spiritual message. It can only be done with physical phenomena.

to be continued in next post.

My job forces me to pay attention to things in orbit, so with a casual eye on the Universe and applied physics, and love of Scripture, it makes it easy to see how if I was the devil with advanced knowledge I could counterfeit spiritual things with physical signs and wonders. Selling it to people who don’t believe in Scripture would be simple.

I prefer to see them as shadows of Messiah after reading Scripture. It sucks that BLAZE saw fit to not add the follow up post. The moderation in this forum is juvenile at best.

Shadows of Messiah? Now that’s a stretch!

You’re simply engaging in what the ancients practiced – astrology. Trying to find some meaning, divine or otherwise, in some anomaly in the night sky. Comets were omens from the gods. The motion of planets with respect to background constellations were messages from the spiritual realm. And now we have this modern bozo who sees what he wants to see, a spaceship from another world. And, of course, the sensationalist Christian can’t keep from giving his two bits…”It’s a shadow of Messiah.”

From above article, “Rather than a UFO mothership parked near Mercury, the bright spot is “where the planet was on the previous day,” Rich told Life’s Little Mysteries.”

The above is one theory but then the former astronaut Tom Jones that Bill Hemmer had as a guest on FOX news blew the above theory out of the Water because FOX played footage from a stereo satellite which showed the object on the opposite side of Mercury, and if it was the location where the planet was the day before, then the stereo satellite would have to show it in the same location at the left rather than on the right. Tom Jones said it was an “Imaging artifact”, and I think it’s interesting that both satellites had the same Imaging artifact however on (appearing to be) opposite sides. Of course, depending on the locations of the satellites the object could be in one location next to Mercury, and while one stereo satellite shows the object behind Mercury, the other stereo satellite can still show the object as if it is in front of Mercury, if the object is slightly off to one side or the other of Mercury.

      Arrogant? Really? Arrogant?

I’d be interested in doing a comparative study of Physics with your vast knowledge of the cosmos. Mathematically it would be an extreme stretch to suppose that man is the end of all intelligent life even in the Milky Way Galaxy. Arrogance is supposing that in a galaxy that holds billions and billions, and billions of stars, we would be the only life in it. The HEIGHT of arrogance is presupposing that in a Universe where there are billions, and billions, and billions of galaxies which contain billions, and billions, and billions of stars in each, that we would be the only intelligent life this universe contains. That‘s arrogance with a multiplier of 1 followed by thousands and thousands of zero’s.

There’s exactly 1 factor that makes man special, and I’d be thrilled to introduce you to Him.

You all should really know what it boils down to: that just as government ultimately (as a whole) denies the existence of God Almighty, they will also deny earth is getting visited by E.T’s (who work for God) far more advanced than government is capable, just as they deny God as a whole. Government will analyze any evidence even to an irrational level just to prove government is the premier authority, even though they actually like the fringe benefits of people believing in aliens, because it helps fund research, but when it actually comes down to it, they wouldn’t actually want to know they are a million years behind another race or planet.

What astronomer would not want to discover life on other planets? They would be rich, and famous, besides just being totally cool. NASA’s budget would skyrocket overnight. So, there is literally no motivation whatsoever for a conspiracy to hide these things.

I have other theories as to *why* we haven’t found this evidence, but they are just theories. That said, I think we would all welcome any scientific evidence showing life elsewhere.

I believe you’re right. The problem is, if we (and we do) live in a receding universe, any life beyond our point would be that many times more advanced. I’m a Computer Engineer who works on defense projects. Just doing the mathematics required to perform sound telemetry adjustments from earth orbit to ground for gps requirements can give a headache for field operation applications.

We‘re a little tiny speck of dirt in a universe that is so vast that it’s incomprehensible. We would be thousands of times smaller than a single drop of water comparative to all the bodies of water on earth.

Food. Science can’t fully explain the ocean. How much less do we know about our solar system in comparison to the universe. Those who say they know, are simply lying.

I think what 10th is getting at is that Satan uses counterfeit as his tool to deceive. You never see a counterfeit 4 dollar bill right? You see only someone trying to manipulate the original. This is exactly Satans mode of operation. He can only guess what God is up to. He is not prophetic. He copied the sacrifice that the Jews make through the burnt offering and he ofered up blood and children. He copied the original story told through the Stars to Noahs children and we now know it as astrology…a Satanic interpretation that leads to the story being about the individual when it is anything but. God uses the Sun, the Moon and the Stars for what? Signs and for Seasons. Get it….Signs! We have a blood moon this Sat. Look up Blood moons and how they are bad omens for Jews. Look at the trend of events unfolding after such blood moons occur…they are epic. Signs in the Sun, Moon and Stars. This is not something from God but a counterfeit attempt to get people to believe in beings outside Gods plan.

The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

      You sir are exactly right.

The serpent cannot duplicate a transfiguration, cannot change times and seasons, cannot ascend into Heaven and descend onto earth in the manner of a blink of an eye as attributed to God. The serpent has to do the best counterfeiting possible. God acts thru the Spirit (Christ was always from God, not the seed of man), the best the serpent can do is a slight of hand to change the spiritual intent of puzzling scenes painted by the Prophets, to deceive people. The “shadow” of the Messiah in this case is the physical being sold as the spiritual. Elijah’s chariot of fire, and Ezekiels vision of a wheel within a wheel is easily interpreted to even fairly well versed readers of Scripture, as a UFO encounter.

Many religions actually teach that way. From Hindu to Zoroastrianism, to Mayan and Egyptian and other various forms of paganism.

If an alien encounter happened and the beings claimed to be of God, or Messiah, only those who bear Gods mark will be able to tell the difference. Even some Christ believers will still be deceived.

We may never really know what caused the appearance of the object, it is intriguing to think about.
I was thinking if it was a “ghost” image of where the planet was prior to this, why does it have such an odd shape? Would it not have a more rounded features? I am not an astronomer, so I am just asking questions. What is the black area, is this a black hole in the distance or is this just an area absent of stars? Why when the CME hits the area the object can be seen? What is the composite makeup of the CME that could make an object that seemly is invisible – visible?

I don’t think scientist have all the answers and they do make the best guess with the known information that they deem correct. However, we know scientist have had to back track on theories, because something new happened to change that currently known theory.

The Bible talks about those things that are invisible made visible; is this one of those times? Frankly, I have seen clouds suddenly appeared in the sky where no cloud was before; so I can first hand say I have seen the invisible turn into the visible. It takes the right conditions.

Or is it that political powers WANT to foment attention for their preferred slight of hand? Physicists can publish the numbers and present them in a straight forward manner, but people can interpret the message in the numbers however they see fit. One way to draw attention is to present a boogieman, or ET.

You don’t need a conspiracy to present a theory that has a sound basis. The dangerous part is presenting it as fact or scientific truth. Scientific truth itself has been jaded into SCIENTISTIC nonsense, but the study of potential life elsewhere is a legitimate SCIENTIFIC theory, and not merely mathematically possible, but mathematically probable. The interpretation of the data is the only difference between Scientists, and their counterfeit, scientistics.

The same thing happens next to Mars at the exact same time. Why is nobody talking about that?

If you want to look at prophecy and the science added together it’s the 2012 return that signals the Christian persecution followed by the destruction of the persecutors (Islamic radicals) after a 7 year fight between The 12th Imam (Satan) and the return of Christ. Islam views this as the paradise scenario they crave.. They believe the ball fire of will bring them to their promised land with 70 virgins in tow. All prophecy ends in their demise.. Obama believes he is the 12th Imam. I submit he is psychotic!

I am confused. Did Obama pop out of a well in Iran ? This is where the twelfth Imam is supposed to originate from. I think he is more likely the anti-Christ’s forerunner, prepping the world for all out war by destroying the West. He is prepping the way much like John the Baptist prepped the world (though be it the evil version) for his cousin, Jesus Christ.

      No. Next question.

Would humans believe in alien religions, should a race of sentient beings capable of interstellar flight be both religious and prone to reveal themselves to a primitive monkey race not yet capable of leaving their planetary crib for more than short jaunts to their nearest satellite, and that not in the past 40 revolutions of their planet about their central star?

Why wouldn’t an advanced life form not want to reveal themselves to us? We are fascinated by other life forms here on earth in spite of their lack of religion and ability to even communicate with us[most animals].Maybe they[aliens] are not in need of salvation or maybe they too have an experience of Jesus or maybe [if you athiests are right and either Jesus or God is not real] they could enlighten us about the origin of existence. To dismiss the possibility of aliens being interested in us as a way to express your contempt for humanity strikes me as petulent and childish[Lesbian Packing Hollow Points;I know it's the standard stance many disgruntled people take but I thought you wouldn't fall for such transparent facile glibness].We don’t even know what life is -so how could we presume about the “mind set” of extrateresstrial life? When talk of extraterrestrial life becomes a vehicle to castigate humankind [as it is in many sci -fi novels or discussions with hip people] it becomes a school marmy bore.

I am neither petulant, childish, nor disgruntled. I’m a realist. Yes, we study lower lifeforms, but ones which are capable of changing their behaviour at the realization of our presence tend to get studied from blinds and hides, lest the presence of the researchers taint the research.

Please don’t quit your day job. What exactly would be a “lower” life form?

This should be interesting, especially knowing that “all” life as we know it and understand it is of the same clay of creation, and specific in genome which prevents a “natural” evolution of species without extra (outside intervention) manipulation of the molecular DNA………ie creating Frankenstein, thru playing God.

Picture is of Iran shooting down our drone with Mercury in the back drop. The object was half the size of Mercury, so it must have been a lot closer to earth.

Most. Amusing. Story. Of the day!

What is that? It’s an OPTICAL LENS FLARE, ya MORON!

Everyone notice that darkened blob right in the middle? That’s the center of the optical field of this camera. As the camera clicks away, it allows Mercury to slide ever so slightly to the left and up in its field. When the CME hits Mercury, wow! It brightens. Now, look at the place in the frame immediately opposite the center of frame from Mercury. Why, it’s the lens flare from Mercu– uh, a cloaked starship! Yeah. that’s it. A cloaked starship.

Oh, and nevermind the vertical column strobe from the CCD that Mercury gives itself in this camera, or the fact that the lens flare EXACTLY DUPLICATES IT!

Correct. You can see how the flare appears when the cloud at top right hits max brightness.
