Ugandans Threaten Egypt-Style Protests

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Opposition members in Uganda are threatening Egypt-style protests if next week’s presidential election is rigged.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is seeking to extend his 25-year grip on power in Friday’s vote.
Museveni is widely expected to win another term, though his top opponent Kizza Besigye says the vote is already fundamentally flawed by bribery.
Analysts say Uganda’s army and police would violently crush any revolt in the East African nation.
Museveni, who seized power in 1986 as the head of a guerrilla army, has been accused of quashing dissent and reversing presidential term limits. He faces seven opponents in Friday’s election, which is only the second multiparty vote in 30 years.

Posted on February 13, 2011 at 10:53pmSome countries have never been able to handle freedom. Uganda and other third world dictatorships are in the long run probably better off being run by one despotic regime than being in a total state of civil war. Unfortunately, more often than not another regime or revolution is but a few hundred thousand bodies away. Reality is not a kind thing. For the middle east and most of the continent of Africa, dictatorships have been a relative stabilizer, leaving well enough alone is often the best policy. The middle east was not in near as much chaos until the US decided to play world police on Saddam. Nobody would F- with him because they would be dead, regardless of any personal beliefs, one can not deny the evidence of the brutal effectiveness of harshly implemented dictatorships. One does not have to like it, it is just reality. One plus side to all of this is that mercs will always enjoy gainful employment, I am a cup half full kinda person.

Obama & Soros may soon regret their efforts to “Community Organize” the rest of the world.
Let’s just pray that these newly-forming Freedom-movements have the wisdom to not replace one oppressor with another, but this experience will not leave them where it found them. They are tasting their God-given power as individuals and will not give it up lightly again.

Still think it is astroturf Nancy?
To be sure, the demands vary greatly from country to country, sometimes diametrically opposed, but the one thing in common among them is all the consent of the governed being put ahead of the despotism that results within all tyrannical dictatorships (yes even our own).
The common denominator is this – and W was correct about this – All people desire their freedom and Freeman will stand up to usurpers of freedom, eventually, no matter where in the world they reside. We are closer to the start of this than we are to the end, let there be no doubt about that.

Posted on February 12, 2011 at 5:55pmWhile it is true that a person who stays in office by ignoring or reversing term limits is a bad thing (EX. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Hosni Mubarak) they should be considering the fact that they do have elections and if he is continuously reelected then they should stop voting for that particular nominee if they feel he has over stayed his welcome. But they should reconsider going to the streets and protesting instead they should be getting ready for the election. But their is a chance if they do protest that their country could be thrown into turmoil, unlike Egypt whos Army was ready to step in and stop what they saw coming their way.

Yes! – as I posted above:
“All the technology like the Internet and cell phones have driven a bulldozer through the hidden agendas of tyrannical leaders around the world. Transparency in government is a wonderful thing and a blessing! Those who oppose it are the enemies of their own people.”
The key to suceess for these nascent movements will be to avoid replacing one tyranny with another.
“The price of freedom is eternal vigilance!” – There will always be those who want to steal your God-given freedom and enslave you. There is no safety in keeping your head in the sand and wishing away the problem of tyranny. There is no Utopia on this earth where tyranny isn‘t attempting to ’own’ you in one form or another.
That is why a free and HONEST press is so important to keep the people informed. That is also why transparency in government is so important. That is also why the left is despised by honest men when the left embraces the techniques of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules For Radicals” (the unholy bible of the Progressives).

That is exactly what Obama wants to happen and guess who will be enforcing martial law – not our military – but the “national” force that Obama has referred to in the past that is “above” law enforcement. And you can bet that Richard Trumpka will be handing out purple shirts and inciting riots. Maybe he’ll fly in Francis Piven for a guest appearance and, of course, Bill Ayers. Yeah – maybe “the world” (its political leadership) is going to have to try granting people more freedom and will have to be more honest in their dealings with ‘their’ people.
For years I’ve known that we cannot grant “Democracy” to other countries if they are not ready for it. I’ve long believed that the people will have to rise up against their oppressors as we did here in the USA (and need to do again!)
All the technology like the Internet and cell phones have driven a bulldozer through the hidden agendas of tyrannical leaders around the world. Transparency in government is a wonderful thing and a blessing! Those who oppose it are the enemies of their own people.
I’m grateful to see people stand for their God-given freedoms and throw off their dictators – It will be as bloody a birth for them as it was for us – but oppression is no less bloody – just slower.
Merely thowing the bums out is not enough – The people will still have to learn self-control – something even the USA is still learning, but they cannot learn self-control while being oppressed – they first need freedom to then be able to see what the next step in their personal growth needs to be.

Posted on February 13, 2011 at 10:46amI could care less about Uganda. It’s history is rife with tribal violence, its ‘leadership’ has been of the worst possible kind. Idi Amin comes to mind when I think of Uganda. But then so does Mugabe.
The “threat” of Egypt style protests would be a step UP in social and governmental behavior for Uganda. We could only ‘hope’ for such a ‘change’ there. But I wouldn’t expect it.
My expectation for Uganda is it would only one more excuse for “government” there to massacre more of its own people in tribal hatred.
