Uh-Oh – New, Ultra-Bad, Super-Sticky Cholesterol Discovered. . .

Just when you figured out the difference between the “good” cholesterol (HDL) and “bad” cholesterol (LDL), British researchers have discovered a third, type that sticks to the walls of your arteries.

From Science Daily;

The research, funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), found that ‘ultra-bad’ cholesterol, called MGmin-low-density lipoprotein (LDL), which is more common in people with type 2 diabetes and the elderly, appears to be ‘stickier’ than normal LDL. This makes it more likely to attach to the walls of arteries. When LDL attaches to artery walls it helps form the dangerous ‘fatty’ plaques’ that cause coronary heart disease (CHD).

To the layman, it appears that this is not a new cholesterol, but merely one that latches onto the artery walls with greater strength. But it is a new form of cholesterol as LDL becomes MGmin-LDL. The article goes on to explain how this change happens;

They found that MGmin-LDL is created by the addition of sugar groups to ‘normal’ LDL — a process called glycation — making LDL smaller and denser. By changing its shape, the sugar groups expose new regions on the surface of the LDL. These exposed regions are more likely to stick to artery walls, helping to build fatty plaques. As fatty plaques grow they narrow arteries — reducing blood flow — and they can eventually rupture, triggering a blood clot that causes a heart attack or stroke.

Uh Oh New, Ultra Bad, Super Sticky Cholesterol Discovered. . .

Emaxhealth also added;

MGmin-low-density lipoprotein (LDL) could be a key player that leads to heart disease. The study helps researchers understand it’s the shape and density of bad cholesterol in the body that causes damage and heart disease.

But not everything about this new, “ultra-bad” cholesterol is terrible. Metformin, a drug used to treat people with Type 2 Diabetes has shown promising results in lowering blood sugar levels in diabetes patients. Lowering those blood sugar levels might prevent LDL from morphing into MGmin-LDL.  And that is a good thing.

According to the CDC, heart disease is killing one person every single minute in America. If you are doing the math, that’s over 500,000 people dying from heart disease every year.

    Seems strange. Why is the BHF doing test on how to extend life at the same time the British government employs means testing to determine if you will get care. 500,000, that’s a lot of people to add to the pool besides the expected ones they are counting already. Shouldn’t the gov. suggest to the BHF that it’s not a good idea to make people think they can live longer. Really, if the average life expectancy if 72 and I’m 76 and the doc. says there‘s nothing he can do I’m thinking there is nothing he can do because it’s beyond medical capability at this time. If, on the other hand, the life expectancy is 80 and I’m only 72 it may cross my mind my number is up, not with my maker, with the gov. Why raise expectations only to jerk the rug out from under you later unless they really are sadists.

    Also notice how every health care gimmick comes from some non-US source? The advertisers go to great lengths to describe how the only quality supplement you can take for your condition is to be found in a tropical village from Farbelow, and it takes excruciating measures to produce each half-drop, and it’s yours for only 99.00 semi-monthly, and it will make you live till you’re 150.

    Nonsense, just take your vitamin C and lucine and skip the mindconditioned medical men who laugh and fatten their bank accounts on your fears and anxieties.

    Cholesterol doesn’t matter. What matters is do you have strong building materials for your body. If you don’t, then cholesterol steps in to fill in the gaps, which should have been filled in with Vitamin C and Lucine.

    You can read all about on vitamin C foundation dot org.

    by the way, does it make sense to YOU that you should take anti-cholesterol medication to prevent your body from doing what it was designed to do? You then, are perfect mark for the Big Pharma profiteers. No wonder they keep ratcheting up their measure for blood pressure and cholesterol counts – they have a great profit motive working on them.

    Victory Gardens. Remember them? I have put a vegetable garden in and some fruit trees and berries. Raw foods and and good quality meats are getting so out of hand. I have planted enough to share with some older people that I know and hopefully will have better health as time goes by.
    My heart goes out to those that cannot plant even a small garden due to living conditions. Buy local as best you can, meats included. ASK the grocery guys (if they speak English) where do they get their animals and produce from. LOCAL is best. Whatever you consume.

      I agree. I stay clear of all processed foods, I try to eat foods that are not prepared by the food industry. After reading many books on this I have come to believe that it’s the processing that makes us sick and keeps us malnourished. It can be very costly to eat properly, but I think it’s worth the cost to keep my body healthy. I have also noticed that I have become allergic to many fruits, especially ones that have thin skins, this is a fairly recent development and I am sure it is traceable to the preservatives and pesticides that the growers use to enhance the fruits.

    There is VERY little our federal government is SUPPOSED to do. INSTEAD, they want to do EVERYTHING ELSE.
    That is EXACTLY why our founders constrained them with a Constitution of “negative liberties”. The constitution rules the government. It does not rule the people. We are FREE. That does not mean we lack chains on our ankles. It means we are endowed by God with life and liberty. We are FREE to live our lives as WE see fit. It means the government CANNOT and SHALL NOT interfere with that… PERIOD.

      Exactly! That’s why I hardly every eat hamburgers out (darn-it), I buy either organic or meat & chicken who claim they don’t use antibiotics or hormones in the animal. Just a margin of safety. Same with milk. There is a list of 12 veggies & fruits that might be safe enough, otherwise buy organic instead of oversprayed products. My mom is in mid-90′s and follows these suggestions. My family has high cholesterol but we all have a good ratio LDL/HDL. That‘s what I’ll go by, not the pills that might end up killing me first. I admit I hardly ever eat bacon or lunch meats because of the nitrates. I prob. do many other things that are worse??

I have been on a Paleo high fat diet for years and i have over the top healthy numbers But the healthcare industry wantds you sick, so it puts you on a low fat high carb diet that will kill you.

      Eat low glycemic nauural foods and you will beat type II Diabetes like I have. I enjoy my good healthy fat diet and avoid man made transfat foods. I like your attitude. Keeping people with Medicare alive with medications and surgeries is bankraupting this country. Please keep your blood pressure high and eat whatever you want, in this way chance of dying suddenly from a stroke or heart attack around age of 60 will save this country lots of money. Have you ever wondered why you don’t see people dropping dead in their 60s of heart attack anymore? Maybe because of cholestrol and blood pressure medicines?

      Yeah; I used to worry about things like cholesterol and stuff, but I did some research and found that 10 out of 10 people die!

      One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small and the ones that Mother gives you don’t do anything at all.

      Die from cholesterol or die from the death panel denying some treatment for another disease, take your pick. Why the bother of extending our lives.

      Don’t worry. The only foods with this cholesterol are the ones that taste good. There are still plenty of healthy foods to be pushed on us and they all taste like sawdust, lawn clippings or plywood. Its a win-win!
