UK Doctor Fears Losing His Job After Sharing His Faith With a Patient

Should doctors be penalized for sharing their faith with patients?
This is the question that many are pondering following a doctor’s reprimand by the General Medical Council (the governing body that regulates medical professionals practicing in the United Kingdom). Dr. Richard Scott, a family physician with an impeccable record, was chastised for speaking to a patient about God. Now, he fears losing his job as a result of the incident. The Telegraph has more:
The committed Christian, was accused of “harassment” and told by the medical regulator that he risked bringing the profession into disrepute by discussing his religious beliefs.
The Cambridge-educated doctor has refused to accept a formal warning on his record, and is instead taking legal action to fight the censure.
His case follows a series of high-profile disputes between Christians and their employers over their freedom to express their beliefs, including an electrician who displayed a cross in his van and a nurse who prayed for a patient.
Scott claims that he was within his bounds when speaking with the patient and that the conversation was, “…a consensual discussion between two adults.” By his own account, he asked permission before speaking to the patient and stopped discussing his faith when he was asked to. Scott is determined to clear his name.
Below, watch him discuss the matter in detail. What do you think? Should he be held accountable for sharing his faith?

Posted on May 23, 2011 at 8:48pmoh please. My son’s pediatrician is a Muslim and we are Messianic Jews. He is a very wonderful man who knows treating a patient is a mind body soul issue. More doctors need to recognize this. Your mind can control the outcome of your physical health. Prayer is one of the remedies he recommends when our son is sick as well as antibiotics or traditional meds. He knows who we pray to I know who he does. It is fine by us and many others. Treating the entire person mind body and soul is prefered by most instead of doctors just handing out loads of antidepressants to the unbelievers

Posted on May 23, 2011 at 4:21pmShame on our brother Ephraim (brother to Manasseh; their father Joseph) for allowing themselves to fall so far away from God. The tribe of Ephraim (Great Britain and the countries associated with it) and the tribe of Manasseh (The United States of America) were given the blessing of the firstborn son, which was a double portion blessing; Jacob placing the younger Ephraim over the elder Manasseh in the blessing.
Report Post »Hosea 13: 1 tells us: When Ephraim spoke, men trembled; he was exalted in Israel.
Hosea 3: 4 – 5: For the ISRAELITES (all 12 tribes of Israel) will live MANY DAYS without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephod or idol. AFTERWARD THE ISRAELITES WILL RETURN AND SEEK THE LORD THEIR GOD and David their king. THEY WILL COME TREMBLING TO THE LORD AND TO HIS BLESSINGS IN THE LAST DAYS.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 9:45pmNice to find someone else who understands about the blessings on Ephriam and Manassah! I find it interesting that most all of the lexical aids and nearly all of the good ones are in English, and that (in my opinion) the reason why the British Empire was so far flung was so that the teaching of Christianity then could be carried out by the many many English speaking missionaries that have travelled the globe in the last 200 years. To see a testimony of this English doctor gives me hope that Christianity in England is not yet dead. God will not forget him and his labor of love in sharing his faith!
Report Post »As believers in Jesus Christ, we need to remember also that the blessings on Abraham (I will bless those bless you and curse those curse you) not only apply to the physical land of Israel and its inhabitants, but to us the Church as well.

No one should interfere with a concensual discussion. That is an infridgement on people’s freedoms. It sounds like the patient was changed as a result of the conversation and the patient’s relative was extremely annoyed by that. I support the doctor. He asked permission to talk about faith. Why should he be penalized for that?

Get back to God and the good doctor when you have been diagnosed with a fatal disease. Actually, I hope that doesn’t befall you but I am quite sure most people being given that diagnosis would welcome hearing about the benefits of prayer in healing, miracles the doctor has seen happen and, most importantly, the Christian belief of salvation for their soul should they not survive.

Slightly off topic but….. : ) Studying this today and felt this was the perfect place to share….God’s timing is always perfect. Concerning the gift of salvation given to man (per verse 10), 1 Peter 1:12 says “Even angels long to look into these things” concerning the gift of salvation given to man.
Beth Moore commentary from her study of Revelation page 46:
……among all these things angels long to look into, they perhaps find the whole concept of salvation particularly puzzling. Perhaps one reason is because they have seen man’s rebellion and rejection of God and of His Son, Jesus, for centuries while they look straight upon their holy faces.
