UK Man Collapses in Hospital & Dies After Nurses Ignore Him for 10 Hrs.

When 41-year-old Peter Thompson arrived in a UK hospital after having a concoction of alcohol and drugs, it’s reasonable to expect that he would have bene treated. He wasn’t. Instead, he collapsed on the floor, just 200 yards from the emergency center. And there he lay, for 10 hours, as nurses stepped around him dismissing him as a mere drunk. He died because of the inaction.
But adding to the horror is how Thompson’s body was treated after he died — he was dragged through the hall like “a dead animal,” his family said.
The Daily Mail reports:
The scenes which shame the NHS were all captured on CCTV. Staff thought Mr Thompson was merely drunk and left him to ‘sleep it off’.
Yesterday a coroner condemned the death as ‘wholly preventable’.
An inquest heard that the father-of-one, who had consumed a cocktail of drink and drugs, could have been saved had he received emergency treatment.
The hospital’s accident and emergency department was just 200 yards away.
Last night it emerged that three nurses face a disciplinary inquiry over their inaction.
The incident happened at the Manchester Royal Infirmary in April last year where Thompson was a voluntary patient for drug and alcohol programs. When he showed up he had a bottle of Vodka that he refused to surrender. Nurses decided to let him “sleep it off.”
The hospital and the family have reached a settlement in the case.
“It seems to me undeniable that the jury came to a conclusion the death was wholly preventable,” a local coroner said during an investigation into the matter.
Britain uses a socialized medicine model run by an organization called the NHS.

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 12:23pmThe Brits have had their version of Obamacare for years. This is a really good view into the healthcate we can expect from government health.
Remember the 13 year old English girl, who was taken by her parents to the local clinic numerous times for severe pain in her leg. Her parents were told that she was only suffering “Growing pains”. Only after her leg broke was she sent to an Orthopaedic doctor, who determined that she had a fast growing BONE CANCER. The parents were told that if she had been properly diagnosed when she started hurting, the cancer was FULLY CUREABLE. As a result of the delay, She had to have her leg amputated above the knee. This is a tragic story but it is what we can all expect when obamacare is fully instituted.
GET ON THE BANDWAGON, NOW! DEMAND THAT OBAMACARE BE REPEALED IN FULL.

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 12:23pmUnfortunately, this could be happening in our own country thanks to Obamacare! ER’s are still being inundated with those who have chosen not to get Health Insurance because they prefer to depend on the rest of us to pay their bills! Obamacare hasn’t changed much except to force insurance companies to raise their rates and many Doctors to opt out of Obamacare and Medicare so if you want to keep your Doctor who made such a decision, you pay for service at the time or find another Doctor! Obamacare is creating what many of us predicted–a really flawed system created by Obama!

Report Post »“Britain uses a socialized medicine model run by an organization called the NHS” Yes it’s called the National Health Service and it provides treatment to those who need it free at the point of delivery and has done for over 60 years. If you want private healthcare in the UK of course you can have it – many people do, but this story is just a typical attempt to smear the National Health Service and let all the bigots spew their bile. As usual – wind them up and see them go. Cut and paste insults awaited.

I do, Canada has a longer mortality rate than the USA , Canada has a infant mortality rate far below the US. The medical outcomes as a whole surpass the US by a large Margin. The list goes on. Canada does not have Obama Care. They have a single payer system, that is not free. Everybody pays into the system, like Medicare. Obamacare is no where near socialized healthcare. Obamacare is forced payment to the Insurance Monopoly. Only the ignorant ill informed equate the two. Get your facts before you post stupidity. I really would like to know how many posters actually pay their own premiums. I bet less than 1%. If you were paying 12k a year you may want solutions, not just stupid slogans.

Wow, I am glad I don’t live where you live. Where I live, this man, even if he was homeless and passed out on the curb of some back street, would have been attended to by either a everyday citizen or a professional. If he were found on the floor of a hospital he would have received immediate attention. You see, here we don’t let people sleep on the floor in a hospital and if someone, homeless or not, if found passed out on the street would be taken to one of three places, jail, the hospital,or a homeless shelter. While we all would like to think that we’d put this man on our shoulders and carry him into our homes for a warm shower and chicken noodle soup, I am afraid I’m going to have to call your bluffs. Would I show concern? Yes, if he was conscious I would see if he needed help. If unconscious, I can’t say that I would bend over and take his pulse. But I am under the impression from the story (and I could be wrong) that the man was conscious to begin with and refused help. They tried to take his alcohol from him and were met with opposition. The next thing they know, he’s passed out. Are you seriously going to tell me, Blazers, that you are going rush every unconscious drunk to the ER that you run across in the night?? It is extremely unfortunate that this man died, but the story seems sensational and everyone is chattering away about how their own heroic, good Samaritan-esque deeds would have saved the day had they been walking by that night. Posted on June 9, 2011 at 11:12pmHey Billy, hope you’re okay. The website didn‘t post my last my last post where I admitted the many words I leave out and that my grammar is sometimes horrible and that I’m often appalled the times when I reread my posts. And I thanked you for the PITA acronym.
Anyway, my point? It was neither left nor right. It was that it’s irrational to take a single example of someone dying in the UK in an emergency room, and concluding that that single “data point” is representative of an entire system of health care. And don‘t say every poster here didn’t pile onto that single data points because they did. So I gave a examples of that happening in the US and could have given many more.
My real point? Single examples don’t prove anything. In fact, the examples that make the news tend to not be, in statistical language, representative but rather they tend to be “outliers.” Things way outside the norm. That‘s why they’re interesting.
Outliers that justify a person’s predjudices are particularly appealing, especially on this website.
My other point? That the education system so poorly teaches American children how to evaluate things they see and hear.

Posted on June 12, 2011 at 12:40amWhile I see many taking this as an opportunity to bash Obama care, or the european health care system. This is what we as Americans will have to be willing to do, if we wanted to legalize drugs. This person put himself in this position by overdosing on drugs and alcohol, and the “State” is supposed to bail him out. Sorry, he made a bad choice and died because of it. No different than drinking and then driving. I lost two friends to drunk driving, and I still feel no remorse for them. I do however, for their families who had to pick up the pieces of their shatter lives.
