UK Pub Singer Arrested for Singing Kung Fu Fighting in Earshot of Chinese Pair

A pub singer has been arrested on suspicion of racism for singing the classic chart hit Kung Fu Fighting.

The song, performed by Simon Ledger, 34, is said to have offended two Chinese people as they walked past the pub where he was singing.

The entertainer regularly performs the 1974 number one, originally by disco star Carl Douglas, at the Driftwood Beach Bar in Sandown, Isle of Wight.

But after one of the passers-by reported his routine on Sunday afternoon, Mr Ledger was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment.

The Sun:

Simon said: “We were performing Kung Fu Fighting, as we do during all our sets. People of all races were loving it. Chinese people have never been offended by it before.

“But this lad walking past with his mum called us w*****s and did the hand sign before taking a picture on his mobile phone.

“We hadn’t even seen them when we started the song. He must have phoned the police.

“They phoned me when I was in a Chinese restaurant that night. They arranged to meet me and I was arrested.

The Isle of Wight Gazette:

“I thought it was a joke but they were serious. They seemed pretty amazed but said the law is the law and it was their duty. It’s political correctness gone potty.”

Simon added: “There are plenty of Welsh people at our shows – does it mean I can’t play any Tom Jones?”

Bar owner Sean Ware said: “The song is in no way racist and nor is Simon. There is no way he would abuse anyone.

Simon, who is on bail until today, wrote on Facebook: “If the lad who phoned the police is reading this, WHAT IS WONG WITH YOU? Sorry, what is wrong with you?”

    To think, all the American blood shed and lives lost to liberate Europe and this is how they guard the freedom we gave them.     This is what multiculturalism does. Its a shame, really. Europe used to be known for its intellectual and enlightenment reforms. Now its a slave to its own political correctness. The sad thing is that the people, especially the Muslims, that these laws are designed to protect are the same people that are doing the most harm to the country. Its only a matter of time before these laws find their way to our shores.

    Although it is my belief that anyone who sings Kung Fu Fighting should be arrested, this is beyond the pale. The couple were walking PAST the pub, not in the audience.

    Hey, Carl Douglas lives in Hamburg, Germany. Maybe they can have him extradited and locked in the Tower of London.

    It’s pretty sad day when a former hit song is believed to be offensive. It is tragic that the police did anything in response to the complaint. They should have told the Chinese if you don’t like it you are free to leave the country and go back to China. TS

      I had two words censored yesterday, not really offensive.

    This is why we have a bill of rights here. To check the power of government to oppress us. This is another example of the UK’s descent into fascism with a smiley face. Confiscation of firearms; criminalization of self defense; breaking into an seizing of property from safety deposit boxes on flimsy warrants; limiting public debate over race and immigration. Why not thought crimes as defined by anyone who claims they are offended? Yet last week a man was gunned down at a McDonalds in the UK for breaking up a fight in the serving line, despite all the “protection” afforded by suppressing the rights of all law abiding citizens. Britain is a parody of what it used to be.

      1) The Chinese kid should be caned for calling the cops.
      2) The bobbies should be fired for even responding to the call.
      3) The judge should be disbarred for even setting a bail amount and not throwing the case out.
      4) The English people should now understand that the sun has finally collapsed into a black hole on the one grand British Empire and it is now imploding soon to fade in on itself till it is gone.

      You are so right and may I add that we the British (LOL) are not allowed our freedom of speech although we are supposedly allowed to speak our minds according to the rest of the world this is not true and yes I was sectioned in 2005 under the mental health act, so you are hearing this from an experienced nut case or whatever you may choose to call me. I see myself now as one of the lucky ones who recieved excellent care and support through the PCT Primary Care Trust. Sadly the undiagnosed severe cases are 99% working in what we call a government power run by dangerously, sick, corrupt. evil liars and cheats. What is more worrying is people dare to vote for these imbeciles!!! Whatever next? I am however still on medication and have the odd delusional thoughts and hear voices from time to time. If there is a god out there which one is it? There are so many it disturbs me…Sorry to have troubled you but needed to share. Thanks
