UK Writer Faces Police Investigation for Op-Ed Decrying Arab ‘Savages’

When UK writer Melanie Phillips saw news of the horrific murder of an Israeli family in Gaza, she responded to the gruesome crime with a passionate article. Now her words have prompted are being called racist. What’s more, she‘s being investigated by the UK’s Press Complaints Commission.
Phillips online commentary, titled “Armchair barbarism,” was published by the UK Spectator and focused on the media’s coverage West Bank settlement family killed by Palestinian militants earlier this month.
“The moral depravity of the Arabs is finding a grotesque echo in the moral bankruptcy and worse of the British and American ‘liberal’ media,” Phillips wrote. “Overwhelmingly, the media have either ignored or downplayed the atrocity – or worse, effectively blamed the victims for bringing it on themselves, describing them as ‘hard-line settlers’ or extremists.
“To the New York Times, it‘s not the Arab massacre of a Jewish family which has jeopardised ’peace prospects’ – because the Israelis will quite rightly never trust any agreement with such savages – but instead Israeli policy on building more homes, on land to which it is legally and morally entitled, which is responsible instead for making peace elusive. Twisted, and sick,” she added.
Phillips’ article sparked outrage from Engage, a group promoting Muslim engagement in British society. As a result, the group lodged formal complaints with the Press Complaints Commission, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Metropolitan Police. After the complaints were filed, the group also complained that Phillips seemed to be “quite blasé,’ adding, “nothing in her subsequent Spectator blog commenting on the concern her blog has generated, to indicate that she feels she’s done anything wrong or in fact, has breached the Editors’ Code of Practice.”
Phillips‘ writing not only shed light on the media’s reaction to the Fogel family murders, but also pointed out the political gravity of the situation:
What is being deliberately ignored through this travesty of reporting is not just the human tragedy of this terrible massacre. It is the politically crucial fact that it was apparently carried out not by Hamas but by the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, the terrorist wing of Fatah. Fatah is the party of Mahmoud Abbas, the Holocaust denier who is the allegedly ‘moderate’ Chairman of the PA – and who not surprisingly couldn’t even bring himself to express unequivocal horror at the atrocity.
This diabolical deed therefore gives the lie to all those who have been supporting, promoting and funding the PA as ‘moderates’ who deserve a state of their own. The fact is that America, Britain and the EU have been not only promoting this bunch of neo-Nazi fanatics and baby murderers. They have also been forcing their putative victim, Israel, to offer them its own throat to be cut, along with that of Jewish babies. And these craven governments in turn are being egged on by the bigots, useful idiots and worse of the British, European and — it has to be said loud and clear — Israeli ‘liberal’ intelligentsia.
Inayat Bunglawala, chair of Muslims4UK, also filed a hate speech complaint with the police about Phillips’ column: “Her words went far beyond just denouncing the killings. It was a far more generalised racist outburst against Arabs as a whole.
“If you insert the word ‘Jew’ or ‘Jewish’ where she has referred to Arabs then I am sure she would have no doubt that those words would be antisemitic,” Bunglawala told the UK Guardian. “Just as she abhors antisemitism it is important that she maintains the same vigorous anti-racist stance against Arabs. It is just unacceptable to use that kind of language.”
But Fraser Nelson, editor of The Spectator, says: “We are quite clear that Melanie Phillips hasn’t broken the PCC code.” In response, Bunglawala called Nelson “an idiot.”
The Spectator isn‘t the only outspoken supporter for Phillips’ commentary.
“Bunglawala and the other complainers are full of righteous indignation against Melanie Phillips for her words, but where is the indignation of these supposed ‘moderates’ against the jihadists who murdered the Fogels?” Jihad Watch asks. Which is worse? Phillips’s allegedly “racist” remarks, or the cold-blooded killing of a family sleeping in its home?”
“The jihadists who murdered the Fogel family are savages, as are those who celebrated their murders in Gaza,” the blog site adds. “I would say this while standing in the middle of Trafalgar Square, and if Britain’s PC Commission had any residual sense of shame, it would drop this proceeding immediately.”

Bravo I say! She should be given an award! She told the truth.

How would Muslim parents feel about their babies being slaughtered because their babies are Muslims? This is just insane. Why can’t every religious belief just accept that “one” can have their own religious belief, and allow others to have their own religious beliefs?
I am a Catholic, but I don’t demand that everyone else in the World must be a Catholic. If you are not a Catholic, that’s your problem, not mine. I believe what I believe. What someone else believes is not my problem or concern. I figure that most people on Earth are decent people, and it doesn‘t matter what religious convictions they have or don’t have. America is the land of freedom, but I think we need to draw some very defined lines in the sand, and begin charging people with treason who come here and attempt to cause turmoil. Our leaders are weak and scared. Obama has done more than enough to be impeached, and thrown out of office, but he is a black man, and the people who are suppose to be representing us are too scared to handle the noise from the real racists when they start screaming. No, Phillips was not saying that by virtue of the Jihadists’ Arab descent are they savages, just as Americans don’t say that by virtue of someone being “black” do they prefer hip hop.
Rather, it is observed that the vast majority of Jihadists are Arab, and Arabs are the most susceptible to becoming Jihadists because a lot of Arab nations prefer the religion which Jihadists base their ideology on, which is Islam.

“When anyone condemns an entire group of people based on the words or actions of a single person, or small group of people in that group, that is straight up racism.
The polite term is “overgeneralizing.” When you say, based on the words or actions of a few, that everyone of that specific ethnicity, political belief, skin color or religion is evil, then you’ve lost your humanity. History is replete with persecution, wars, genocide, blood and death, by that human inclination to categorize an entire group as worthy of persecution based on the actions of a few…”

Whether it was Egyptian commandos infiltrating into Israel from Gaza in the 50s…or the Palestinians murdering children as happened the other day, the deliberate targeting of non-combatants has been the “one constant” from the Arab side since the birth of Israel 63 years ago.
I suppose the Muslims are just trying to live out the true meaning of their creed. After all, the Quran itself is one of the planet’s earliest written exponents of terrorism, decapitation and mutilation…(8:12/13: “I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers”)

Posted on March 27, 2011 at 10:49amThe blatant, mindless support of governments, liberals and other left-wingers for Islam will be the downfall of the entire free world if things don’t change. Time for a new crusade to rid the world of all Muslim scum.

Posted on March 27, 2011 at 10:49amJZS, those murderous barbarians and their family, friends and fellow thugs appeciate your words. I’m sure they want to give a big shout out to you for giving them a little cover. The silence from the other arabs is taken as approval for thier actions. But no, we shouldn’t be angry at them right?

Posted on March 27, 2011 at 1:15pm@ JZS…if one member of the KKK killed a black man would you just condemn that one individual? Or would you decry all of them as savages to the extent that if you belong to a group and do not denounce the actions of that individual but celebrate their actions or at least remain indifferent to them, as those actions would be supported by the basic tenets of beliefs that define and constitute that group? Does this not justify then denouncing the whole group? I am a Christian but will denounce the Westboro baptist group so as to define and separate myself from their form of “Christianity”. And if one member carried out some despicable action the others did not speak of disapprovingly would we not be right in denouncing the whole group? I would say yes as I feel you would rightly feel also.
