Ukrainian Law Could Ban TV Shows & Movies Depicting GaysKIEV, Ukraine (The Blaze/AP) — While some countries, like the United States, have vastly increased the presence of gays and lesbians in popular media, the situation in Ukraine is unique. If a group of lawmakers have their way, television shows and movies depicting homosexuals could be banned in the Eastern European country.

Last month, six legislators, including President Viktor Yanukovych’s representative in parliament, submitted a law that calls for prohibiting the “propaganda of homo-sexuality.” If passed, the law would impose fines and even jail terms on those who deliberately disseminate positive information about gays to minors. Anything from movies, television series, photographs and even art exhibits viewable by children would become illegal.

Lawmaker Pavlo Ungurian, who co-wrote the bill, told a news conference Monday that its goal was to preserve “the moral, spiritual and physical health of the nation.”

The bill has caused outrage among Western rights groups and politicians who said it would make being openly gay effectively illegal. This news comes just days after human rights groups claimed that anti-gay sentiment is on the rise in the Ukraine.

The gay community was forced to cancel its first ever gay pride parade in the capital, Kiev, in May due to concerns activists would be physically attacked by radical groups. After the cancellation, two gay leaders were violently beaten.

Oleksandr Zinchenkov, head of the Our World gay rights advocacy group, told a news conference Wednesday that Ukrainians have been increasingly hostile toward gays and lesbians in recent months.

This year homophobia in Ukraine “has entered the stage of physical violence,” he said.

Svyatoslav Sheremet, who leads Ukraine’s Gay Forum, said the community had decided to hold Ukraine’s first gay pride event believing that gays and lesbians were finally ready to be greeted by society. For every one gay Ukrainian who is out, he said, another 80 are forced to hide their sexuality.

But despite strong support from the U.S. Embassy in Kiev and other Western groups, they were forced to cancel the May 20 event on learning that hundreds of anti-gay activists had arrived in Kiev looking for confrontation.

Shortly after the parade was cancelled, Sheremet was first doused with pepper spray, and then kicked in the head, legs and arms by a group of youths wearing surgical mask. They then stomped on his back. A month later, Taras Karasiychuk, another gay parade organizer, sustained a concussion and a fractured jaw when he was attacked by men shouting homophobic insults outside his home.

“The message was clear: ‘don’t come out onto the streets with your gay rights, stay at home or in your clubs,’” Sheremet said.

Sheremet expressed hope Wednesday that violence and hostility would eventually give way to more tolerance and acceptance, saying that he saw this as a “necessary crisis period,” after which social integration would follow.

“Eventually, society comes to realize that one can only live peacefully when one is tolerant,” he said.

Minutes after the news conference was over, however, he was doused in buttermilk by an anti-gay activist.

      It’s quite funny how all you Blazers jump on this and say we should have laws like this here. Then, on the next article you will all cry wolf about how your freedoms are being taken away.

      Apparently you all hate the First Amendment as a law such as this one would be in clear violation of the Constitution.

    Homophobia is the #1 reason why conservatism is in danger; there are lots of conservative gays out there, but of course they are going to vote for Democrats… you all hate them.

    The most ironic thing to me is, most conservatives hate gays because they are liberals… but they are only liberals because conservatives hate them! You don’t give them a chance to be anything else. Democrats use gays for votes, and gays use Democrats to get their rights. Why not stop the abuse and actually WELCOME gays into conservatism? Give them rights with no strings attached. Then they won’t have to support all the baggage attached to the Democrat party in wanting simple rights. That’s what the Democrats are doing: Vote with us on everything, and you’ll get your rights.

    You drive them into the enemy’s arms with your hatred. It doesn’t make any sense to me… and for what? What difference does it make to you if 2 people of the same sex get married? Why are you such control freaks?

    Conservatism unnecessarily creates social minority groups, and liberalism snatches them up and uses them as weapons.

      You are absolutely wrong. There are no Conservatives who are going to vote for a Democrat. If they vote for a Democrat….then they are not Conservative.

      If they don’t want to vote for the Republican establishment candidate (Mitt Romney this time around, McCain last time around) ….I understand that. The Republican establishment candidate is typically a liberal….just not as extreme as the Democrat candidates.)

      But be sure that a true Conservative will never vote for a Democrat. We may stay home and not vote, or write in the name of a true Conservative…but we will never cast our vote for a Democrat.

      Conservatives and those that abide by their Judeo-Christian faith do not hate gays. The vast majority believe in the individual rights we have in the Constitution and Bill of Rights to live your life in your pursuit of happiness. Like all Progressive movements the Gay Agenda started out with just wanting to not be discriminated against, being arrested for private conduct, or abused. Then it became obtaining the right to visit their loved one in the hospital, being able to rent and buy property together, etc, which is good and right if someone is to be a full citizen. Now it‘s the demand for not tolerance but the general public’s embracing of gayness and the demand that a small minority be allowed to redefine the covenant of marriage. 6000 years of tradition and sincerely held belief that Marriage is an institution given by the Creator of the Universe between and man and a woman is to be ignored. It’s not good enough to allow Civil Contracts that give all the personal and property rights guaranteed under the Constitution. No the agenda demands that we all have a collective Kumbuyaa moment. In California we even have a law passed to indoctrinate our children by having a special class in the public schools on Gay History. Our kids can barely read, write, or do basic math when the get out of school but they will now know who the famous gays in history are and how to put a condom on a banana. It’s a bridge too far… tolerance yes, promotion no.

      Homosexuals are liberals, because liberalism includes their unnatural behavior as part of the inane liberal fantasy of a rainbow utopia. They would be communists, right wing zealots or anything else if any those political ideologies were a vehicle to acceptance.

      Homosexuals couldn‘t really give a rat’s ass about the tenets of liberalism if it wasn’t inclusive for them.

      Humans and the rest of the animal kingdom are embeded with an instinct to perpetuate the species, second only to the instinct for survival. Anything that is counter to these important traits is rejected naturally as wrong and repulsive. Religion or political views play no part in any of it.

      Homosexuals think that all they have to do is demonize Christianity out of existence or to somehow be accepted by Christians and they will gain mainstream acceptance for their perversions, unaware that feelings of disgust for homosexuality is innately repulsive to human natural instinct and it will never be accepted.

      I have to agree with Kim. We don’t hate gays at all. It is a sin just like when I lose my temper with the drivers on the road. I don‘t care what they decide to do in private just don’t make me try to accept it. Some of the nicest people I have known were gay. That does not mean that I want anything to do with their sexual orientation. Keep that to yourself. Don‘t sue my church because we don’t do gay weddings. I really don’t even understand why gays would want to marry when it has always been something associated with GOD. If they want the other person to be their next of kin then I don’t care, just don’t try to force me to believe what you do.

      That’s the real problem. If it were a case of wanting to live and let live, there would be less opposition. Instead it is a fight to win, to squealch all opposition, to be celebrated on demand, to have the spotlight and call the shots. Militant gays don’t want to be equal, they want to rule.       I was born in 1963 in a small Southern town, so I caught the tail-end of that era. It was a wonderful time to grow up. I’m just heart-sick at what has happened to American culture. I believe it was destroyed on purpose by the liberals, starting with the whole hippie movement in the sixties. My first post was very pessimistic, but I’m going to try to be hopeful that with prayer and voting in good people, we might can change things. I think we all need to stop giving hollywood and cable companies our money if they can’t stop producing filth.

I have a 22 year old son who my husband and I have tried to raise with the values we were brought up on, but the culture is pulling him away from our values and to the left. It’s really sad when you have children being corrupted by the rot. (He’s not homosexual, just becoming socially liberal). I think he’ll mature out of this phase, most young people go through it. I’ll do everything I can to bring our country back to sanity. I intend to oppose evil every time I am confronted by it.

      I also believe your son will grow out of this phase. He has lived in your home since birth and has that strong root to your values. Kids go out and form bonds with friends that can also be very persuasive. They give credence to what their friends believe but time will tell him which ‘truths’ stand the test.

      My four kids (27 thru 19) have had their periods where they have questioned what my husband and I have taught them – mostly on the social issues. After all, they went to public schools. Homosexuality had been their biggest stumbling block. Felt that we were focusing too much on the act rather than the person and that it was a problem with us. Until recently. We had gathered as a family at a funeral. My homosexual cousin came in from Fl. I hadn’t seen him in years. He and I used to hang out as teens. We were hugging, chatting it up all and I told him I loved him when we parted. One of my daughters had asked me afterwards – ‘Isn’t he gay?’. I said that yes, he is. She was silent. I could see she was mulling it all over.

      We never stop maturing or wrestling with our opinions until they are right with God. Then we are at peace.

      Dixie, I’ll pray for your son.

Young people are being indoctrinated in schools, and by the media to accept homosexuality as normal. They all need our prayers. Concerning my son, I try to remember this verse : Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

      Symphonic : I agree, Hollywood is largely responsible for the degradation of morality. My husband and I refuse to give them any money, since all they produce is anti-Christian, pro-sodomy, violent garbage.

    It is not “homophobia,” it is good sense. This should not be promoted. At least the Ukrains have some sense of decency. Homophobia is just a made up word to try to make anyone who disagrees with the issue of sodomy look like they are the ones doing something wrong.       Agreed… I am not afraid (phobia) of homosexuals, I just don’t like their behaviors and their militancy trying to teach that is normal to little children in schools and through the mainstream media. I am afraid of what they are doing to our youth.

      The correct term is HOMOANTIPATH – someone that just doesn’t like homosexual practices. I can work with them, I am not going to knowingly hire one and I don’t know want to know how they chose to have their sex.

      There is a entire mythology built around homosexual lifestyle choices and I saw it exposed on a video of a DC ‘gay’ pride parade. Not only was everyone dressed like prostitutes, or worse, and acting like animals, they were chanting “10% is not enough, RECRUIT, RECRUIT, RECRUIT”. This was a huge, major parade in which I realized their real agenda was exposed. Fortunately world crossing surveys still show a 1-3% population of homosexuals. May their recruiting efforts forever fail.

    Great. This should start an open, honest dialogue of the “propaganda” of homosexuals.
    Let’s talk about the rampant STD rates, not just HIV/AIDS. While we’re at it, let’s talk about why the US health departments are forbidden by law to do STD contract tracing and notification regarding HIV/AIDS, I mean, if it’s “everyone’s disease” then why are we protecting homosexuals? Let’s talk about the rates of TB in this group, and poly-antimicrobial resistant organisms. Let’s talk about the origins of USA 300 CA-MRSA (”flesh-eating bacteria) and the coverup the CDC has been doing for decades about it (hint: think, “bathhouses”). Can we talk about the 95% of “pedophile” assaults being man on boy, ahem, “homosexual”? Let’s talk about the fact that while life expectancy in America has risen steadily over the past 100 years, life expectancy among homosexuals is still ten years less on average.

    It’s about behavior, and lifestyle choices. No one is born with a death wish and a desire to recruit others into participating in it. Self-loathing and self-destructive behavior are choices, decisions, not something we are born with.

    Let’s hear the truth for a change and stop pretending that homosexuals “are just like everyone else” when nothing could be further from the truth.

    At last, somebody is taking a stand. I refuse to allow any tv shows on in my home with homosexuals being treated as normal.

    TV technology has gotten so much better but there is so little programming that is worth watching. Like I am going to allow children to watch the primetime sitcoms that are trying to normalize and make acceptable homosexuals and their behaviors.

    Homosexual practices have been banned in every civilization from the start of man. Only when those civilizations started to devolve did they ‘accept’ homosexual behavior. America is well on its way to devolution although the all of the progressives want to call it evolution. Historically, that just ain’t true.

      A phobia (from the Greek: φόβος, Phóbos, meaning “fear” or “morbid fear”) is, when used in the context of clinical psychology, a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognized as irrational. In the event the phobia cannot be avoided entirely the sufferer will endure the situation or object with marked distress and significant interference in social or occupational activities.
      We ain’t skeered (so to speak) of “lesbians,“ ”gays,“ ”bisexuals“ or ”transgenders (ewww).” They don’t necessarily make us uncomfortable. We just don’t approve of their “choice” of lifestyle and WILL protect our children from them. End of discussion.

      Ok..“WINEDUDE” so we have an overrepresentation of homosexual programming here in the U.S and the Ukraine wants to remove all homosexual programming. You don’t have a problem with one, but you do with the other?

    The LGBT community has brought this upon themselves, with their constant in your face tactics to promote their perverse lifestyle. While I’m no homophobe, I hate what they are doing to society. When you promote a lifestyle that is unhealthy, degenerate, morally wrong, and against God’s will, there are consequences.
