Ukranian Nationalists Demolish Communist Statue of Josef Stalin

In a New Years Eve blast detonation, a group of Ukrainian nationalists allegedly destroyed a statue of former Soviet dictator Josef Stalin — a symbolic act the country’s Communists are decrying as “an act of terrorism.”

The bust of Stalin, unveiled last May, caused immediate controversy in a country split between its nationalist west and the more Russian-oriented east, which fondly remembers its Soviet roots:

France 24 reports:

“A criminal broke into the grounds of the Communist Party regional headquarters, and laid an explosive charge which detonated after a few minutes,” the Communist Party said.

“The statue of Stalin was destroyed as a result of the blast,” the Communists said in a statement. It said that the explosion inflicted serious damage on the building but there were no casualties. …

The local police said in a statement that according to its information a group of several people passed the monument just a few minutes before the explosion.  “One of them climbed over the fence and fastened to the monument a shopping bag which evidently contained the hand-made explosive device,” the police said, adding that those behind the blast were currently being searched.

Meanwhile, the nationalist Svoboda (Freedom) group reported that the police had already arrested its head in Zaporizhia, Vitaliy Podlobnikov, and his deputy on the youth issues, Yuriy Hudymenko, on charges of causing the Stalin monument destruction.

The same statue had been badly damaged last week in a blast claimed by Nationalist group Tryzub (Trident) which denounced Stalin as “the executioner of the Ukrainian people and an international terrorist.”

Does one of history’s greatest bastards really need an effigy on display to be remembered? Seems to me like this is a natural consequence. Hell, if you’re a communist, I suppose this is almost akin to an assault on one’s religion. Communist supporters? Man, I will never understand masochism.

God bless these folks. It is a travesty the way America has turned it’s back on some of the strongest potential allies we could have. We prefer instead to “reset” back to the old days of MAD and aspirations of collectivist world domination. Thee One be down wit dat. Thank God there are clear thinking “terrorists” left in the world.

I would not bless this pepole my friend, altough just like you i like what happened to Stalins staue, we need to remeber that
      A. Ukrainian nationalists are not only nationalists, but also nazis, for example the Waffen SS 14th Grenadier Division, was also known as 1st Ukrainian, its soldiers where elite of the Ukrainian nationalistic movement, and they are considered by modern day nationalists as national heroes

      B. Ukrainian partisans colaborating with Germans where responsible for probably the most brutal ethnic cleansing events during WWII, they slaughtered/tortured to death, more than 100 000 civilians, Jews,Poles etc, ppl of all ages, including newborns and pregnant woman

This is team Hitler vs team Stalin all over again, evil vs evil

Erecting a statue honoring Josef Stalin in Ukraine is like erecting a statue honoring Adolph Hitler in a formerly Jewish section of Berlin.

Take care and be cautious though. This could be a pretext for Russian intervention.

Exactly what I was thinking. My father escaped “Uncle Joe’s” Ukraine. Most of my family was exterminated in the Ukraine by “Uncle Joe’s” NKVD (Secret Police). I can’t understand why ANYBODY would think ANYTHING good about Stalin (or any communist / Markist to that matter)? Stalin killed more people than Hitler ever did…Hitler was a nobody compared to “Uncle Joe”. Stalin was such an nice guy that he had executed most of the liberated Soviet POWs who returned to the Soviet Union at the end of the Second World War. Got to love it. A Red soldier, survive the Nazi’s only to be sent to a Gulag in Siberia and worked to death or if lucky…just executed out right.

I always had a problem with Beck’s “Revolutionary Holocaust” documentary. There’s a lot of misuse of quotes, not the least of which was the fact that the “revolutionary worldstorm” (Marx never used the word Holocaust, I assume Beck changed it to make it sound more imposing) that Marx was referring to was the then-ongoing capitalist-industrialist revolution.

Here are the two quotes I found, likely a translation thing.
“The chief mission of all other races and peoples, large and small, is to perish in the revolutionary holocaust.” -Karl Marx Die Neue Rheinische Zeitung NZR January 1849
“The classes and the races too weak to master the new conditions of life must give way… They must perish in the revolutionary holocaust”

In any case Holo = whole, caust = burned. So there is really no difference.
      - Karl Marx ( Marx People’s Paper, April 16, 1856, Journal of the History of Idea, 1981 )

God be with the ones arrested. While I don’t condone violence or destruction such as this, the act serves as a reminder that freedom is too precious to let government and tyrants take it away from us here in America. If we lose ours, the world at large will suffer. How can any loyal American truly believe that any other system is better than our Constitutional republic and economic capitalism? Cloward and Piven, Saul Alinsky, and their ilk are comrades of Stalin.

A British Embassy spokesman said: “The bust of Sir Winston Churchill by Sir Jacob Epstein was uniquely lent to a foreign head of state, President George W Bush, from the Government Art Collection in the wake of 9/11 as a signal of the strong transatlantic relationship.

“It was lent for the first term of office of President Bush. When the President was elected for his second and final term, the loan was extended until January 2009.”

Yes, returning something when the loan was up sounds clueless and crass to me.
