Unbelievable: Tebow and Broncos Stun Steelers in OT (With Final Play Video!)

DENVER (AP) — The Drive. The Fumble. And now, The Blink of an Eye.

With a quick flick of the wrist and a mad dash to the end zone, Tim Tebow, Demaryius Thomas and the Denver Broncos put a sudden end to their playoff game against Pittsburgh — an 11-second throw, catch and run that accounted for the quickest overtime in NFL history.

On the first play of the extra period Sunday, Tebow threw a crossing pattern to Thomas, who stiff-armed Ike Taylor and won the race to the end zone for an 80-yard score that lifted the Broncos to a 29-23 playoff victory over the stunned Steelers.

Tebow and Broncos Beat Steelers in OT

AP

All in 11 ticks of the clock — the quickest overtime ever, regular season or playoffs.

It will be talked about for much longer, destined to earn a spot in Denver’s colorful playoff history, somewhere up there with The Drive, The Fumble and the franchise’s two Super Bowl titles.

John Elway, the quarterback who was around for those magic moments, was like every other Broncos fan for this one — he could only watch and hope. When Thomas crossed the goal line, ol’ No. 7 raised his arms and celebrated like a kid on the sideline.

And Tebow?

“When I saw him scoring, first of all, I just thought, ‘Thank you, Lord,’” he said. “Then, I was running pretty fast, chasing him.”

A few moments later, he was Tebowing in the end zone — down on one knee, resting one hand against his forehead, while he punched his other fist in the turf. After that, he did victory laps and jumped into the stands at a stadium that has been thirsting for something special for a while now. Denver’s last turn in the playoffs was the 2006 AFC title game, a 34-17 loss to the Steelers, five seasons before Tebow arrived.

And boy has this unorthodox, often divisive but very clutch quarterback made a difference.

“Definitely a special memory. One that will always be very special,” Tebow said of his fourth overtime win of the season, against no losses.

The Tebow-to-Thomas connection denied fans a good look at the NFL’s new postseason overtime rule. Under the new format, put into play for the first time in this game, each team was guaranteed a possession in overtime — unless, that is, the team that gets the ball first scores a touchdown.

“They said, ‘We’re going to run this play, all you have to do is cross the safety’s face,’” Thomas said. “I was walking to the line and saw the safety come down and I knew, at that time, the play we had called, the only person I had to beat was the corner.”

After Denver’s third straight loss last week in which Tebow threw for 60 yards and logged a quarterback rating of 20.8, Elway — now the team’s executive vice president of football operations — urged him to be more aggressive with the ball. He wanted his quarterback to step up and take more chances — run when he saw daylight, throw during that split second when he saw a receiver open.

Message received. Tebow did that all game, softening the Steelers with gains of 51, 58, 30 and 40 yards, all in the first half.

“I think it’s just a mentality, being aggressive,” Tebow said. “Whether it’s in the pocket, when I was stepping up and I start to scramble … or whether it‘s when I’m stepping up and giving a receiver an opportunity on a deep ball.”

Though the Steelers rallied from a 14-point deficit in the second half, Tebow, Thomas and the rest kept their defense off-balance most of the game. They were clearly caught unaware on first-and-10 from the 20 when Tebow took the snap and safety Ryan Mundy bit on the quarterback’s play-action fake and charged toward the line. That left Thomas in the man-to-man coverage against Taylor he knew he was going to get.

After catching the ball and shedding Taylor, Thomas had only Mundy to beat to the goal line.

“We knew they were capable of big plays,” Mundy said. “They didn‘t’ make the playoffs for no reason.”

They’re moving on in the playoffs, as well. Thanks to the first play of overtime. Which also turned out to be the last.

      Source: See Holy Bible
All men are born enemies of God, only through faith in Jesus and accepting his atonement can a person be saved and no longer be an enemy of God. I would say God has friends and enemies on each team in the NFL. Tebow seems to be a friend of God!

It’s a rematch of their game a month ago, when the Patriots snapped Denver’s six-game winning streak with a 41-23 rout. Afterward, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady found Tebow on the field for a private chat. A reporter asked Tebow on Sunday what Brady had said back on Dec. 18. Tebow tried to deflect it, noting that Brady had “said some nice things,” but the reporter — from Boston — asked Tebow if it was true that Brady had told Tebow something along the lines of, “We’ll see you again.”

      Busted, Tebow smiled.
“He might have said something like that,” Tebow said. “I guess he’s a prophet.”
Could be, but there’s only one Tebow: 316. And we’re all witnesses.

Tebow is a quality quarterback and God loves him right along with all who would receive his Son as Savior; but let’s get serious for a minute about this. The Broncos got really lucky and beat the Steelers, who were by far the better team. (LOL) Anyway, we hope that Denver destroys the Pats…that will heal our broken hearts in Pittsburgh. Would just love to see Brady get trounced.

Great comments all – Well most of them. What struck me was how the game, player’s actions, officials actions, and media all played their part in this real life play of Good and Evil. One team with unity, understanding, beholden to our Lord. The other, egotistical demonstrating abhorrent behavior. One led by an man that helps his brother. The other led by a man with a record of misogyny and alleged serial rape. One team demonstrating their best as men. The other has their defensive enforcer hitting an exposed receiver with intent to injure with a potential career ending blow. Officials at all but one juncture, favoring the media favorite with suspect calls and non-calls. At the climatic end, one team thanking god for their blessings and the other sulking away. Finally, the only avowed Christian on the network panel breaking with the media and stating that the winning quarterback played an inspired game. I am left with the image of the losing quarterback in his post-game press interview, in all his “Hip Hop” culture garb struggling to say that the “low have been brought High”. That image juxtaposed the winning quarterback thanking our Lord and talking about how others deserve the credit. What a wonderful metaphor for our society and country. There is hope after all.

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

      Not sure how this applies to Tebow passing for 3:16 yards but I’ll try;
Amid great controversy Tim was manifest in the NFL, Justified through winning, seen of Football Fans, preached unto the Sports Media, believed on in Denver, and Passed for 316 yards unto glory.

@Eliasim wrote “You folks sure like to belittle the importance of God don’t you? Like God has nothing better to do than help a team win a superficial game,”

The only thing God has going on today is You, and getting you to accept His son. If He uses a football player as an example of humility before Him, and then uses a football game to highlight His servant, then who are we to call it foolish. I think God spends far less time worrying about our political systems then he does in looking for ways to get your (You Eliasim) attention so he can bring you into His kingdom.
Maybe ensuring Tim Timbow got a victory today, while passing for precisely 316 (John 3:16) yards, was for the single purpose of getting your attention and bringing you to read the postings of His servants, so as to maybe cause a change in your heart towards His son through the power of His Holy Spirit and to His Glory made real in you through faith in Jesus, was the most important thing God had going on today.
If not then maybe He did all this for someone else.

      Sirfold,
I think that is primarily the point behind Tim’s expression of faith. He isn’t praying for a miracle on the field unless it comes in the form of someone coming to know Him better by seeking Him out for their own life. Those who say that God doesn’t have a favorite football team, they may be right, but that should not discourage someone like Tim from showing the world who he gives credit to for his abilities. Tim isn‘t perfect and as far as I can see doesn’t claim to be so, but the gifts he has he attributes to God and that is praiseworthy.

Doesn’t HE (GOD) do that for HIS kids???? HE does keep us humble, which I guess explains Washington, D.C. in spades…. hard to find HIS kids and humility there.

God and Tim probably both love Bill Maher because that’s the gospel message, ‘While we are yet sinners, Christ died for each of us.” He doesn’t ask us to clean up our act…if we were perfect, God wouldn’t have needed to send His Son to pay the penalty. Hurting people hurt people and those who don‘t have the Father’s love usually are miserable and hurt others.

You should have been listening to Rush’s closing remarks on Friday. He said he just had a feeling that it would be Denver’s game. He closed by saying something along the lines that if God decided to watch the game then Pittsburgh was screwed.
      Obviously God decided to watch.

It is obvious that the Steelers just have not been close enough to the Lord, what fools they are. They should have known better to prepare with more prayer (that’s got a ring to it–“prepare with more prayer”) especially going against the Broncos who have a quarterback who has a seat saved for him next to Jesus. How ignorant could they have been, repent now!

How lucky are you!!!!! We had the pleasure of watching Tebow in Gainsville and you get to watch the “big show”. The chances of Dever being shown in FL are slim unless you hit a bar, so that’s what we do, and spread appetizers over a 3 hour period. The character of the Denver Broncos shone brightly tonight and I hope they can go all the way.

@TRON Wooo-Hooo! Love that Tebow and and the Broncos ! Demaryius Thomas must be Tebowing too ! We really should just call it prayer or gratitude for the one TRUE LORD, It seems blasphemous to do otherwise,I doubt Tim Tebow calls it Tebowing .The 316 passing yards is somewhat interesting too
