Unbelievable: Paris Baby Falls Seven Stories and Bounces Into Drs Arms

The awning that saved a Paris girl's life after she fell from a seven-story building.

A Paris baby is lucky to be alive today after falling seven stories onto an awning and bouncing into the arms of a passerby.

The man who caught the young girl was alerted to the accident-waiting-to-happen by his son:

Le Parisien newspaper praised the quick reflexes of the man who was alerted to the drama by his young son to the drama. The son spotted the 18-month-old baby, who was playing alone with her young sisters, just before she fell.

As luck would have it, the hero was also a doctor and rapidly checked the girl to establish she was not injured before handing her on to paramedics. She was taken to the hospital for observation.

The child’s parents were being questioned by police about why the children were left alone momentarily to play in the apartment.

KHGRON comments, “for someone who doesn’t believe in God how can you say God pushed her off the balcony?”

My presumption is you are addressing me. In the future, include a participant’s name or quote so readers will know who you are addressing.

Clearly you are not faithful to the word of God. This word is God sees all, knows all, does all. God is in absolute control of everything, except the Devil which is, of course, oxymoronic. God knew, beforehand this baby girl would fall from this balcony. God arranged for this girl to fall from this balcony. In every sense, God threw this baby girl off this balcony. God is directly responsible.

You are not faithful to the word of God, you are not a Christian. Should you argue God is not responsible for this event, this would be blasphemy on your part.

Amuses me Christians keep tangling with me. Each time I intellectually trash Christians, which is not a feat on my part rather this is easy to do when a person is faithful to mysticism.

Once again, God is responsible for literally everything. God threw this girl off that balcony. If you argue against this, you are committing blasphemy.

I still await for one of you to answer my question, “Why did God throw this baby girl off a balcony?”

      Next in line, please.

Oh! Oh! Are you to drag me out into the middle of a sports arena attended by thousands of Christians to cheer and make a spectacle of chopping my head off?

You are attempting to intimidate me into silence for my “blasphemy”. Goodness, how Islamic of you!

So, tell me, why did God sling this little baby girl off a seventh story balcony? This attempted murder at the hands of God certainly is not a benevolent act. You know in your Christian heart God threw this baby girl off a high balcony. I want to know why.

      OKPULOT-

Seriously? You’re going to try to relate a barbaric two-thousand year old practice of throwing CHRISTIANS to the lions to a baby falling off a balcony in France? At least get the story right, the stands were not full of Christians, they were the ones being fed to the lions, remember? Where is the corellation? Try to stick to the subject at hand if you are to make any sense at all. Of course, therein lies the problem, doesn’t it?

Second, i never try to “intimidate” anyone into silence, I merely suggested you let people have something to feel good about in a time where there is very little that fills that bill. Just because you don’t believe it yourself is no reason to belittle others for it. You could have just kept your mouth shut and continued on to the next story but you decided to act like a child instead. I can recommend another site for you if that’s how you want to act; it’s called The Huffington Post.

Lastly, the only one suggesting God threw the baby off the balcony is you, in your twisted “poor me, I’ve been so opressed so I have to take it out on others” attitude. I hope you get help for that, GOD WILLING.

JOHN SEVEN EIGHTEEN dictates, “You could have just kept your mouth shut….”

There you are, folks, Iron Fist censorship in the name of God. My opinion, John, is you are a religious zealot who would impose theocratic tyranny upon America much like Islam has in the Mideast.

You continue to attempt to silence my voice, as expected and as so very predictable; you accuse me of blasphemy and demand I shut my mouth.

Of course I go after Christians when you folks get out of hand. You are scary. Most of the time I ignore your Christian praises of God. However, there are times when a Christian mob gathers to shout out praises of God, this concerns me, sincerely concerns me.

What concerns me is this religious extremism you exhibit, and you serve as an example of many Christians. I question God and you demand I shut my mouth. This is not in keeping with our American way of life nor in keeping with our American spirit of freedom. You and other Christians like you would impose theocratic tyranny upon our nation, you would willingly destroy our home, America.

This is scary, just as scary as Islam.

Please, get over yourself. You know (and everyone else who read these posts) I never “demanded” you shut your mouth. Try exhibiting a modicum of class for a change because you only expose yourself as the Godless extreme elitist liberal that you are. I merely suggested that you COULD have kept your mouth shut, HAD YOU CHOSEN TO TAKE THE HIGH ROAD, but like all people with no class or morals you decided to attack people who were only trying to express positive comments to a heart-warming story.
I’m so sorry that my pushed my “extreme” Christian views on you by asking you to show a little class, never once mentioning my position on the story (which might actually surprise you, but you don’t want to know the truth, you just want to push your own sick views on everyone else.) Again, I will tell you that your kind on over on The Huffington Post, so scamper over there and join them.
BTW, you never “questioned God”, you accused God of trying to murder a baby by throwing her off a balcony. You are dispicable for saying such a thing, even if you do not believe in God. It seems to me that, considering your heritage and the vile insults thrown at Native Americans all these years, you would know better than to engage in the same vile act. God help you.

      @OKPULOT TAHA

Note: Sorry it took so long to post this. I tried to sign up for the Blaze website on the day this was first posted, but it literally took them until now to fix the site so I could sign up.

I‘ll respond to John718’s reply (11/2/10 @ 2:39pm) and your reply (11/2/10 @ 3:05pm) to him/her first, then I’ll go back and try to answer your initially posed question (11/2/10 @ 2:07pm), ‘Why did God shove this baby off that balcony?’. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with the request John718 made. He simply stated a fact that you do not have to be disrespectful of other people’s beliefs. Perhaps blasphemous wasn’t the most appropriate word (though accurate, since it refers to the beliefs of the one offended). Maybe he should have said ‘disrespectful,’ or the politically correct favorite, ‘intolerant.’ Still, the point remains. Is it insensible to request a little decency online, or will that inconvenience you too much? Like he said, you’re welcome to disagree, but why is it necessary to do it in a manner that is so obviously intended to offend (either you did so to offend/don’t care if you offend, or you didn‘t realize that saying ’God’ like that and saying He pushed the baby off will offend – take your pick)? Also, why do you infer that he wants to drag you into an arena and behead you? Where did he say that? He wasn’t trying to intimidate, simply requesting a little respect. Christianity doesn’t call for us to intimidate and silence detractors. As you pointed out, forced submission to religion is more a tenant of Islam, not Christianity.

[When I started this, he/she had not replied again after your post at 3:05pm. For the record, I think the reply at 4:39pm was not the most appropriate way to go about it. This is not in referance to any of the later posts.]

So, all that said, I’ll try to answer your question. I’m no Theologian, but I’ll try my best. Pardon my inferiority, but I’ll have to borrow from the wise words of C.S. Lewis, since mine will likely not suffice on a matter like this. If I gather correctly, the issue you aren’t understanding is, if God is both omnipotent (He *can* do anything) and divinely ‘good’ (He will do only good), why would He allow a thing like this to happen? Does it seem reasonable to summarize it this way? Like I said, I can’t answer completely in this setting. For an excellent, logical explanation for this problem, I would highly suggest ‘The Problem of Pain’ by C.S. Lewis (especially chapters 2-4, though the whole book explains this ‘problem’). He approaches this not simply by quoting scripture, but by explaining what the concept of God implies (and why it is part of our nature), and he does so through reason and logic. Again, I can do him no justice, but I’ll try to summarize. The book I’ll quote from is actually “The Complete C.S. Lewis Signature Classics,” which is why the page numbers are so high in my references.

By saying God is omnipotent, we are saying, in a way, that He can do whatever He wants. This is true, but we have to remember that this excludes the intrinsically impossible. If two things are mutually exclusive (i.e., they exist in different realities), then both can’t be possible. It‘s not that God’s power isn’t sufficient, it’s that asking Him to do contradicting things while maintaining the integrity of each is simply nonsensical (pp561-562). In this example, the contradicting paradigm you put up (as I see it) is that of whether human’s have free will or God will do everything for us. The existence of free will (which I think is obvious) implies that there is even a choice to be made. In order for a choice to be made, we have to live in a world with fixed rules.

By this, I mean there is something outside of each individual that allows them to communicate and exist physically in the same world. This is hard to explain, but the essence is that if I look at something neutral to both your ‘self’ and my ‘self’, it exists in the same manner when either you or I look at it. This is important, because if we existed in other dimensions and I tried to make a choice, but your dimension didn’t allow it, then I wouldn’t be free to make that choice. This fixed nature exists, and we see it every day. This fixed nature implies that it is impossible for every matter of our existence to exist in a way that is equally pleasurable to each member of society. That is, if I choose to do something wrong, the result of that choice could negatively impact someone else (pp562-564). This applies to the physical world too. If I am walking downhill, then someone walking the other way would be going uphill. Lewis says:

“And this is very far from being an evil: on the contrary, it furnishes occasion for all those acts of courtesy, respect, and unselfishness by which love and good humour and modesty express themselves. But it certainly leaves the way open to a great evil, that of competition and hostility. And if souls are free, they cannot be prevented from dealing with the problem by competition instead of courtesy. And once they have advanced to actual hostility, they can then exploit the fixed nature of matter to hurt one another.” (pp564-565)

In this example, the parents made the choice of leaving their children alone. That obviously had devastating consequences. God could have made a world where wrong actions were impossible (and our wrong actions were stopped before we made them, or even thought of making them), but that world doesn’t exist. Miracles can happen (since God is God); but, if a miracle were to happen every time something bad were about to happen, then we wouldn’t have the same stable world we live in. “Try to exclude the possibility of suffering which the order of nature and the existence of free wills involve, and you find that you have excluded life itself.” (p565) You’re simply proposing a different world than we have.

The next problem to overcome is why it sometimes seems that God is not loving. The problem has to do with our view of love. We wish for a God that allows us to live by our own standards. The problem with this is that what we want isn’t necessarily best for us. Would a parent be “nice” if he let his kid not eat for two months because that’s what they wanted to do? No, even if it made the kid happy to starve themselves, it would not be right for a father to want that for their child. In the same way, though there are times where we might want one thing and think it to be right, we have to realize that God knows better (pp568-574). “The problem of reconciling human suffering with the existence of a God who loves, is only insoluble so long as we attach a trivial meaning to the word ‘love’, and look on things as if man were the centre of them. Man is not the centre. God does not exist for the sake of man.” (p574)

I hesitate to think of a situation where an accident involving a baby falling to it‘s death would be a ’kind’ thing, but I’ll offer one case. Perhaps now the parents will lose custody of the children, and this will lead to avoiding a situation where the remaining children would have also been harmed in an even more horrific situation. But that is all here-say, because the baby lived. Since it did live, an unlimited number of lives could be touched by the positive story of the man catching the baby instead of simply letting it fall. Whether you attribute it to a miracle or simpply chance, it’s still an amazing story. Surely someone who doesn’t believe in God can still see that much worse could have happened.

Anyways, hope that helped explain it a bit. Like I said, I’d suggest that book highly (as well as his book ‘A Grief Observed’) to anyone struggling to understand why there is pain and suffering in the world. In this limited space, I can’t really explain it much better. The jist is that, since we have free will (the parents chose to leave the baby alone), there will be suffering in the world (the baby fell). It’s not always easy to see a reason for such suffering, but we trust God allows it only so that we may ultimately benefit. The fact is that no Christian believes God is up there picking and choosing when to kill babies, start a tornado, etc. Rather, the choices we make effect others, so it is best to make ones that are courteous, respectful, and unselfish.
