Diving is a serious problem in soccer, yes? One referee is fighting the good fight, no matter how many critically injured players he has to send off.
From the lower tiers of Belgium comes poor Julien Lecomte, who was elbowed in the back of the head during a match last week. As he was being wheeled off on a stretcher, the referee decided to show him a red. Lecomte was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a concussion and three displaced vertebrae. The lesson here is that if you simply must suffer a painful and debilitating neck injury, don’t do it in the box. They’ll never believe you.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 4:27pmI can watch soccer.., as long as the ball is a puck, everyone gets to carry a stick, players have blades strapped to their feet and the field is much smaller and frozen!

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 2:49pmJust lay the red card on the stretcher so the guy can see it when he regains consciousness. I don’t follow soccer, and I know what a red card means.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 2:03pmThese guys have no shame, and fake injuries all the time. I don’t blame the ref for being sceptical.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 11:18am@horsecrazy: Fifteen years ago I would have agreed with you “soccer is the most boring game on earth.” But now that I have been involved in the sport for 15 years, I find football the sleeper sport–ya know the constant stopping and starting and timeouts (which soccer doesn’t have!). I appreciate the constant back and forth of soccer. These players have amazing stamina; to be able to run, sprint, change direction of play for 90 minutes–with about a 10 to 15 minute “half time.” But we do live in a country where free speech is permitted–as long as it doesn’t “offend” anyone–and I am not offended. I believe that when one understands any game of sports and enjoys participating, in what ever way,

Red Card–for getting hit in the head by another player–seriously!!! I’ve have seen some BAD calls in the sport of soccer, but I do believe this one wins the prize.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 10:10pm@ RNHANNA — I agree. I enjoy watching American FOOTball, where only a couple of players on each team touch the ball with their feet, and where you can come out for a play to catch your breath and go right back in. Soccer players are some really athletic dudes AND DUDETTES !!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 10:02amReally Freelancer? You don’t know what a red card means? Soccer is the most popular sport in the world…..and if you want to bring it to America, it is the most popular sport played by children. Come on dude. Everybody knows what a red card does.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 1:49amThis article fails to mention what the red card even means. I had to look it up because it looks like most sports popular in America don’t use the card system…

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 1:10amThey‘re just lucky this didn’t start a riot that ended up killing 11 people! I hear that soccer is a rough sport to be a spectator of.
