Unearthed Letters Link ACLU Founders to Communist Party

Newly discovered declassified letters found in the Soviet Comintern archives seem to link early leaders of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) with the Communist Party, the Daily Caller reports.

Noted author Paul Kengor reportedly unearthed letters, including one written on ACLU stationary, dated on May 23, 1931 and signed by ACLU founder Roger Baldwin that requests help from then-American Communist Party Chairman William Z. Foster in coordinating travel arrangements for ACLU Chairman Harry Ward’s travels to the Soviet Union. The letter suggests Ward’s trip would revolve around a search for “evidence from Soviet Russia” that would undermine America’s capitalist system:

Dear Bill [Foster],

Dr. Harry ward, chairman of this organization, is going to Russia in august to make a six or seven months’ study of a type which nobody has done. Dr. Ward is, as you perhaps know, the author of several books on the profit motive. He has demolished it theoretically. Now he wants to demolish it practically by evidence from Soviet Russia.

Could you give him any letters of introduction or suggestions of persons to see who can show him exactly how non-profit incentives work?

According to the DC, Foster was a “key figure” in the early years of the American communist movement who also belonged to the ACLU’s National Committee in the 1920s, according to FBI documents. In 1932, he wrote a book titled “Toward Soviet America” and testified under oath before Congress that he opposed American democracy.

In addition to personal correspondence between the ACLU and the American Communist Party, Kengor also found a flier advertising “Soviet Union Day,”  a 1933 event featuring ACLU board member Corlis Lamont that promised to “answer lies and slanders of enemies of the Soviet Union.”

According to Kengor, the Communist Party sent all of its correspondence to Russia to be kept in the Comintern in Moscow.

    It is nice to have this additional and tangible conformation about this enemy within. How do we use it to dismantle their grip on America? Do our intelligence agencies investigate their subversion?
    There are a few sites on the web that archive their subversive activities but they go merrily along undermining our country with apparent impunity.

    I just looked at the photos of Detroit ruination! (on The Blaze). This is what liberals do . . . . .they take away all that is good and sweet and decent and leave the ruins behind them.
    People used to congregate at various churches on Sunday and “plot” to do good things for one another in the neighborhood.
    These ruins are now the “churches of liberalism” . . . . . . note the “fruit of their tree” . . . . . . . ruination.

      In the several thousand years of recorded human history strong centralized oligarchical governments oppressing the people with burdensome laws and taxes have been the norm. This was true even in the Athenian Democracy and the Roman Republic.

      Liberalism was born and grew during The Enlightenment throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.in the works of Hobbes, Spinoza, Locke, Montesquieu, Voltaire, Hume, Rousseau, Smith, Kant, Burke, Paine, and our Founding Fathers.

      In an historic context the US is a RADICAL confederation of several independent and sovereign states. The US Constitution, in its original interpretation, was (and still is) the most liberal political document ever written by man. And, as Glenn himself has suggested, it is impossible to progress beyond “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that are among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” (or property).

      No, these people are neither liberal nor progressive. They are “conservative” in the worst possible way, They promote slavery and call it freedom. They promote violence and call it peace. They seek to return us not merely to conditions resembling those under King George III but, even worse, to a serfdom in a global corporate-feudal society. It is as illiberal and regressive as illiberal as regressive can get.

      No, call these people what they are. Call them Socialist, Fascist, Nazi, or Communist … in the end, it’s all the same basic thing.

      No, the successes of the US are the results of TRUE liberalism. The conditions in Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia are not the results of Liberalism; they are the results of Socialism.

      Anyway, the ACLU being founded by a communist. Like Chris G. mentioned above, no one familiar with the John Birch Society should be surprised. JBS had been maligned by the GOP establishment since it’s founding however they have been right in nearly all of their research and predictions.

      Excellent post LIBERALISM!

      I hope we are on the same page when it comes to the need for a Constitutional Convention to tighten up the chains once again on the powerful arms and legs of the Federal Government.

      If you are, then like me you’ve been thinking of a package of specific amendments to put in to restore Federalism. I think that an opportunity is coming in which a Real Constitutional Convention will be a possibility, and I think that we would be the most foolish people in the world not to have put some serious thought into concrete proposals that could be offered up if/when a convention may come. It would be like not preparing yourself ahead of time and missing the opportunity of a lifetime because of negelect.

      What we need to do is repeal existing amendments like the 16th Amendment, since the progressive income tax is straight from the Communist manifesto and is nothing more than institutionalized theft. We also need to repeal the 17th Amendment, because having U.S. Senators appointed by state representatives, as our founding fathers intended, is actually a brilliant way of ensuring responsiveness to the states at the federal level by preventing nationalized senate races. Harry Reid would have never won if out-of-state unions had not provided the manpower for his ground campaign and his 2010 campaign demonstrates exactly why nationalized senate elections are a bad idea. If the Nevada state legislature had appointed Reid in 2010, Nevadans would have booted out any representatives who voted for him. That process would also have prevented Reid from using union thugs to steal the election through a corrupt ground campaign.

    This is a shock to people? I thought everyone knew Roger Baldwin was a communist.     The ACLU is a paper tiger. It has a small staff and a lot of expensive stationary that it uses to intimidate people who are ignorant about the Constitution. If small town mayors and backwater school superintendents would ignore empty threats by the ACLU and then countersue for malicious prosecution, the ACLU would disappear and America would once again become the Christian nation Our founders intended it to be.

      No one should be surprised to hear this. The John Birch Society, which is often maligned by “conservatives”, has been warning us about the Communist roots of the ACLU for decades. It really bothers me when I think about former Rep. Bob Barr joining the ACLU, considering its disgraceful history at best, & in the worst case, possibly treasonous.

      How could you support these guys, Mr. Barr?

      This was at the start of The great Depression after the system collapsed and before the Soviets were our enemy, we were allies in WWII remember that. Actively seeking answers or solutions to our national economic crisis is no sin. Did they come back and try to subvert the capitalist system? As to Roger, it is well known about his commie links, and the anti-religion sentiment continues unabated today, even after the abject failure of the Soviet Union to eradicate religion in their country and satellites. Roger was also friends of Margaret Sanger, another commie sympathizer who like Roger were the supposed elites and intellectuals of their day that got all their eugenicist crap to Hitler. Check out Roger’s lifestile and sexual tryists. The man was terrible, and Margaret wanted to stop all the imbiciles from procreating (read that as Blacks in her parlance). She was terrible also.       Here here, this is old news, this is why I’ve been advocating to my reps and senators to stop funding the ACLU, we provide them with hundreds of millions of dollars each year. It was put in place to destroy out system from withing using our own constitution. Our freedoms can only be seen in the light of the intent. Once these people grabbed it, the found porn is free speech, that there is a wall of separation of church and state. Our tax dollars are used to defeat us in our own courts. Check out there history on what they fight for and it is completely against the liberties we hold true.

The ACLU has had a constant goal to undermine America’s republic, eradicate all Christian themes, icons, private and public displays of worship, remove all vestiges of the Christian religion from all public positions (in otherwords, anyone professing a belief in Christ will not be permitted to hold office). They wish to revise the Constitution of the United States by other than Amendment, to reflect a totally Godless society. They wish to stifle the free speech of all Christians in public and in private and in print. They want to censor all books that speak of the Christian faith, and essentially rewrite history into a totally humanistic view, and portray all wars, poverty, slavery, and killings as caused by religion (primarily Christian. Next question please.

      Check it out. This was written in 2005. The letter just indicates it started in 1931. It was finalized in 2005. So much for us paranoid, huh.
