‘Unfortunate Pick’: Bush State Dept. Senior Adviser Weighs in on Paul Ryan

Former State Dept. Senior Advisor Christian Whiton Says Paul Ryan Unfortunate VP Pick for Mitt Romney

(Photo: Fox News)

Paul Ryan’s recognized strengths among Republicans are undeniably economics-based.  Between his budget and his 6-minute breakdown of the flaws in “Obamacare,” it is no secret how the man will influence the economy– but how does he rank in foreign policy?

Christian Whiton, a former Bush administration State Department senior adviser, appears to have a number of serious reservations.

Speaking on Fox News, the man said Paul Ryan is an “unfortunate pick” in this arena, saying he has a “very thin record on foreign affairs” and now “we don’t have from either the top or bottom of this ticket is a clear message on how these people will see the world.”

Watch his full remarks, via Mediaite, below:

Whiton also said that Paul Ryan is “too young” to assume the presidency if anything should happen to the president.

He explained: “I think this is a poor choice on politics and substance. Politically, I don’t know why you’d want the number two on the ticket to outshine the top of the ticket on the key issues of the day — the deficit, the economy, jobs…”

He continued: “And then on substance, Paul Ryan is too young to be president…If he were to assume presidency…he’d be the youngest, he’d have no executive experience.”

The Fox host asked, at this point, what executive experience Barack Obama had when he took office.  He also noted: “Our nation’s exploding debt is a huge threat to this country…doesn’t that bode well for foreign policy?”

Christian Whiton concluded: “There’s just nothing in the past that indicates that either of these men will really change the way Washington has been handling threats like Islamism, Arab Spring, a growing China, etc. etc.”

It should be noted, however, that George W. Bush praised Paul Ryan as a “strong pick,” saying, “Governor Romney is serious about confronting the long-term challenges facing America, and Paul Ryan will help him solve the difficult issues that must be addressed for future generations.”

Gosh…Obama had no experience of any kind except being on the dole as a Community Organizer. And he wasn’t very successful at that either, as the community he organized was no better off after Obama’s eight years with them.
Obama briefly was a visiting lecturer, and now pretends he was a professor which is a lie.
So, I guess Ryan’s “vast experience” eclipses Obama’s “no experience.”

Barry had no experience other than a brief time as Sen, and had never run a business when he took office. He has no clue how to create a job and still doesn’t after nearly 4 years in office. He still has not created one single net job. Biden may have “credentials” but I somehow think he sort of sailed through to get those. The man is a dolt. Don’t know what else to say. He’s an embarassment to our country and to the office of V.P. Just Google “Biden bloopers” – the list is endless. Paul Ryan is presidential, intelligent, well spoken and is he younger than barry? If he is, then not by much. Shame on Fox for putting this “nobody” on TV as a supposed GOP person who is slamming Ryan. Must be the same person who hired Juan Williams that decided to put this guy on!

PAUL RYAN says, ‘…extinguish MEDICARE’, unlikely to be too popular in OH, FL, GA, AZ, and a lot of other states———–LA Times says there‘s no reason to believe that Ryan’s proposals will do anything to reduce healthcare costs in the U.S., ———–and reason to believe they would do the opposite.[17] ——–Starting in 2022, the Republican proposal —————-would extinguish Medicare as a guaranteed coverage program ———————for new enrollees and ———————would replace the program with healthcare vouchers, allowing seniors to buy private health insurance with a government subsidy.[9]

The vouchers would rise in value with the consumer price index (general inflation), ———————but as medical expenses have been rising much faster than the consumer price index, ——————————-the value of the government subsidy would erode over time.

Oh boy, he worked with a Progressive President, is a progressive himself, along with being part of the republican establishment that got Dear Leader elected.
So just why should I think his opinion matters more than the 5 year old kids across the street.
Romney made a good choice, Ryan is a conservative, and that will help Romney with conservatives that aren’t very impressed by his Progressive beliefs.
Even if there is an election and they win, which they should unless this country is suicidal, I doubt if anyone can alter what is coming.
The fiscal cliff is close and is a direct result of the dollar being an unbacked paper currency like all the rest of the worlds toilet paper.

One thing we know about Paul Ryan is that he wants to increase the military budget (although the US already spend more money on the military that the next 20 or so countries combined) and he wants to cut taxes for the rich even further, because, you know, he thinks that will create jobs. He STILL thinks that will create jobs even though Bush did it twice and it did not create jobs. Bush had the worst job creation rate of the last century.

But of course, given the experience with Bush’s two tax cuts, and the fact that jobs weren’t created and the economy did not grow, you can be sure he doesn’t really believe that more tax cuts will help the economy. That’s been proven false. Instead, he just thinks the middle class and poor should pay more, and the rich should pay less, in accordance with his atheist beliefs from Ayn Rand.

The rich get more, the poor and middle class pay more. Rand’s idea was that it is foolish to for the most powerful individuals to support others, their morality, these supermen, he to place their own benefit above everything else.

Ryan has said he got involved with politics to pursue Rand’s atheistic belief that morality is defined by the strongest, not by Christ, but by the strongest and wealthiest. They define what is moral.

Bye bye Christianity, welcome to the morality of Ayn Rand.

He lives in the alternative universe where our current anemic growth and permanently high unemployment is superior to the economic situation from 2002 to early 2007 when Pelosi took the gavel.

THEGIPPER, Some excellent points. JZS along with so many others also seem to fail to remember that along with those years of growth, the problems that Clinton settled us with were starting to come to a head. While I think that the Bush admin in the early years with a Republican Congress could have taken a better look at the problems Clinton caused and could have worked out a way to divert the problem. But, hind sight is 20-20. But think about this if you recall what happened during the time period. November ‘06 the Dems win both the house and senate. Nancy Pelosi got on TV and started threatening Big Oil, Big Energy, Big Business, Big Auto, Big Banking we are coming after you. The new congress was seated in early Jan ‘07 and went to work doing just that. Do you recall when gas prices started it’s rise back then to almost what it is today? The auto industry truly started to take a dive, and the banks were running scared. The economy was in trouble prior to ‘06, but the Dems really made it into an avalanche that came crashing down by ‘08. When dems control the White House you can really see the arm twisting effects of the likes of Microsoft back in the ’90s who refused then to donate to either political party. Look what they did to Gibson, who donated to the Republicans. Now, that they have been declared clean and still had to pay off the DOJ, I bet they are making donations to the DNC now.

Whether you folks like to admit it or not, Romner og not the progressive establishment guy you allowed the media to paint him in your minds. This is why he didn’t make it in the 2008 run. He won’t scratch backs and it has a great deal of “establishment” people, even Fox News jacked off. Romney can’t be bought, and I assure you, it has always been his mission to preserve America as the “shining light on the hill”. You have to have to understand Mormons, their faith, and especially what makes up the vision of those who have served in the church and are also successful. American history is part of the Mormons DNA, they love this country like no other, much like the Jews love Israel. Mitt knows what “service” is, he has served for the past 28 years, and I bet my last dollar he refuses a salary as President. The money invalidates the position, as it does for any position determined to be purely of service. The Mormons also place the law of the land before their faith, just as Christ has recognized what was Cesar’s. I wanted Rubio, but his Ryan choice is the right one and demonstrates Mitt is determined to turn this country around. Yes, he has made mistakes, had some idea’s which would be coined “progressive”, but not because of some deep ideology, but because he is human and his feelings evolve, just like each of us. Don’t judge Mitt as disconnected just because he lacks depth of corruption or defect of character, I assure you, he gives all he has trying to relate to

These specious arguments about Ryan’s lack of cred are ludicrous in light of what we the people accepted when “we” elected Obama/Biden. Neither of these men brought anything to the table that could be seriously be considered “gravitas”. With the help of the slobbering MSM, we were sold on “hope and change” and the romantic idea of a “post racial” America. The only difference between Bush and Obama is that Bush was taking us on the slow road to Hell instead of the express lane Obama has us traveling. Slow or fast, the destination was the same. No, all I want to hear from these days are TRUE patriotic conservatives and those who share the views of the Tea Party movement. All others need not apply!

Further, the argument on age is ridiculous. The Founders told us in the Constitution the qualification is 35 yrs. of age for a President. I’m no fan of Bush but most of you here are clueless on why we hit hard times. It was done long before Bush with the housing market and Jimmy Carter. Clinton made it worse in “94” and then Dodd and Frank helped the market to crash. In 2006 Bush and the GOP went after Fannie and Freddie and the democrats protected them and insisted there WAS NO FINANCIAL PROBLEM.

So if you armchair political analysts want to spew your ****, at least know wtf you’re talking about.

I agree with Jake. Bush is a stand up guy and has more character in his little finger than you could find the entire Obama administration. Most of the damage can be directly attributed to failed progressive policies pushed by the Democratically controlled legislature, albeit aided and abetted by weak kneed RINO’s. The Tea Party has forced the Republican party to acknowledge the sins of the past. Despite the MSM’s attempt to paint the Tea Party as radical and violent, the influence of fiscal conservatives can’t be denied. It is time for libertarians, real fiscal conservatives and small government proponents everywhere to recognize that the only hope for change is Romney/Ryan, who are apparently not afraid to have an adult conversation with the country. It may be too late, now that at least 1/3 of the population is receiving some form of welfare, but the option is clear; an orderly transition led by fiscal conservatives or the impending chaos led by progressives who are driving us straight off the cliff. And by the way, how can anyone with a brain buy into the claim that Barack Obama makes in every stump speech about providing the middle class a tax cut? Everyone in this country, in every class, of every gender, sexual orientation, or race, is negatively affected by the unsustainable increase in our debt. The interest we all pay is a direct tax and robs everyone of real opportunity. Only a failed community organizer would try to sell this Shinola….

Romney and Ryan are very intelligent and experienced, they will learn all there is to know about foreign affairs. I imagine they will surround themselves with very knowledgeable people. I am not worried at all. They won’t have the muslimbrotherhood in the WH. Knowing how much they both love America, I feel we can be assured that America will be their primary concern. They believe in the Constitution, that cannot be said about Obama. I’m not even sure Obama is really knowledgeable on the Constitution. And how many times has that actually happened? Half a dozen out of nearly 50 presidents? Besides, a presidential candidate can’t possibly understand each and ever aspect of the world – that’s a fallacy the media uses to accuse presidential candidates of being inexperienced. A president only needs clarity of thought, a strong sense of morality and the ability to find good advisors – a strong grasp of the largest current problem (which right now is the economy) is a good bonus.
