UAW, SEIU, MoveOn Building ‘99 Percent Spring’ Astroturf Movement

The self-proclaimed “99-percent” movement behind Occupy Wall Street claims to be a leaderless movement a la the so-called Arab Spring. So it’s inevitable that a website that advertises something called the “99 percent spring” would emerge to complete their analogy. Unfortunately for the Occupiers, the analogy doesn’t stop there — rather like the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, the forces leading the “99 percent spring” seem to be using the “leaderless” mantle to hide their motives.
The website advertises the movement as one inspired by “the tradition of our forefathers and foremothers and inspired by today’s brave heroes in Occupy Wall Street and Madison, Wisconsin,“ which is prepared for ”sustained non-violent direct action.” Specifically, from April 9-15 of this year, the movement will organize “across America, 100,000 strong, in homes, places of worship, campuses and the streets to join together in the work of reclaiming our country.” This extended seminar on Occupier-inspired economics and sociology will “tell the story of our economy: how we got here, who’s responsible, what a different future could look like, and what we can do about it,“ as well as instruct participants on ”the history of non-violent direct action,” and get them organizing themselves.
Leaderless, self-educated, direct action, right? Wrong. According to the Daily Caller:
While the 43 organizations co-signing a letter on the ragtag-looking site indicate the sort of leaderless resistance characterized by the Occupy Wall Street movement, a series of files The Daily Caller downloaded from the United Auto Workers website indicate that the organized labor powerhouse is behind the effort.
The files, downloaded Sunday, include campaign talking points, a fill-in-the-blank press release template for participating organizations and an advance look at the social media campaign the organizers plan for Facebook and Twitter.
Also included is a “FYI” letter designed for endorsers to distribute, complete with a blank space at the top of the list of participating groups. Filling in a given organization’s name lends the impression that it, not the UAW, is the campaign’s driving force.
And what does the UAW plan to teach this “leaderless” movement? This speech by UAW President Robert King at a protest last May might be instructive:
King’s remarks may strike critics as being in deep denial. He flat out refuses to accept that spending on education or entitlements might be too high — instead, he blames the budget crisis on the Bush tax cuts and Wall Street. He also makes puzzling remarks about the cost of the “wars in Iran and Afghanistan,” even though have been at war not in Iran, but in Iraq. Presumably, that little detail will be worked out before the workshops this April.
Ironically, King’s status as a 99 percenter is itself questionable. His income — nearly $170,000 per year — places him well above the national average, though strictly speaking, he falls short of the 99th percentile.
However, the UAW is not acting alone. The Caller explains:
The “99% Spring” campaign’s social media plan document included a note from its creators. “If you’re having trouble grabbing the images, feel free to email us directly,” it said, before listing the email address of community organizer Josh Bolotsky.
Bolotsky is a self-described “online organizer, blogger, comedic performer/writer and occasional voice over artist“ who ”tries valiantly to fight evil.” He does this by working as a New Media Coordinator for Agit-Pop (get it?) Communications. He apparently also once served as President of the College Democrats of New York, and occasionally does voice work for “non-evil campaign ads.” What he defines as evil is not explained.
The man himself:
Bolotsky also has ties to the SEIU and Moveon, and when questioned by the Caller, fingered none other than the New Organizing Institute (previously covered by the Blaze here) as one of the key groups behind the “99 percent spring.”
Whether the UAW ought to be teaching nonviolence is also an ambiguous question. A cached press release from the National Right to Work Foundation dated July 12, 2001 reads as follows:
National Right to Work Foundation attorneys have forced the payment of an undisclosed monetary settlement, in a case against the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, for involvement in a violence campaign against non-striking workers at Abex Friction Products (now Federal-Mogul Friction Products, a General Motors supplier) in 1996.
Five employees and the spouse of an employee, who were terrorized during a four-week strike at the Winchester brake manufacturing plant, settled multiple civil conspiracy lawsuits pending in the Circuit Court of the City of Winchester against UAW Local 149 and the UAW international union. (As part of the settlement, the employees and their attorneys are barred from revealing specific details of the agreement.)

Posted on February 21, 2012 at 11:51pm5 years from now (assuming we do get a change in leadership) I expect that our currency will be shot and replaced with a “new” one. We will not have anywhere near the quality of life we have now, closer to what you see in Poland and Ukraine, than America. I think the uber wealthy and powerful will be more so and the middle class will be non-existent. I think government intervention will be beyond the pale in an effort to control the decline.
If we do not get a change in leadership, say goodnight Gracy! Get in your bunker and stay there because we are going down in flames.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 12:17amWell sort of my contention. I put a post it’s on page two. In the 60′s we had civil rights movement . Which many believed to have been controlled or hijacked by the communist. Many who like myself personally lived it would be able to explain seeing the beginning of HUD and how blockbusting was used as a tool. And government authorities actually did pricing of others property. So at that point was this “Fair housing” ? . Well the communist believe they have the Right. Food stamps..The right to food. Employment..and on and on. Then all the goodies..heat electric subsidies..and on and on. Welfare free government housing to the point today it has bankrupted us. But there is a problem there is still just enough of us in there way and our basic constitution is this there. Interesting how easy it is trampled today by Obama . Enforce health care …no problem…EPA shut down electric producer no problem refinery ..no problem. . So when or if the money actually runs out to fund this nonsense. Then will come the final push for the “New age progressive communist” ideology. They will say, see you are all hungry and need work and housing we will fix that. You need education and retirement we will fix that. When you look at it…The importance to this election becomes bigger by the day. I believe we have some good gatekeepers in place now. But they are going to need the top leadership to stop this communism from growing.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 12:28amI think people still do not understand how quickly this administration and morons in congress have permanently damaged this country already. Some of this stuff is not reversable. That means that I honestly would not be suprized if the United States will be actually smaller and that four or five state will for the most part be independent.
Our country failed when we started electing US senators by popular vote instead of through legislatures. they used to have to represent the interest of thier state. Now they represent themselves and those that puchase them.
Some people who understand history are going to start discussing repeal of that amendment but , since you need two thirds of a currupt body to vote to repeal, it won’t happen. This has created a damage to our republic because senators no longer represent the states they are from and now consider themselves protectors of the federal government when in fact they were meant to be protectors of state government.
As some states realize what worthles idiots thier senators are, they will no longer see value in those two votes. For many states, including my own, the US senators from that state are the greatest threat to an individuals freedom and earning potential.
Report Post »JohnofOregon
Posted on February 22, 2012 at 12:41am@thevoice, the two most currupt agencies in the US government is HUD and the EPA. All the nations crime problems and offshoring of jobs begin there.
Read this. just skip to page 41 and start. Tell me that ANY member of congress that voted to fund this HUD BS is not a crook. This is not a partisan issue, the fact that any member of congress that approves these budgets or continueing resulutions has the moral clarity of Charles Manson. Approval makes them an accessory, period.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 12:38amThese people are deep thinkers. Are they not? Cripple corporations. Do not let them make a profit. At least not more than what we (Unions and other such smart people) want them to make. Sure they need places to invest for the pension fund of teachers. But that is something the politicians can take care of. The government will have to make up the difference by increasing our taxes. It is all very simple to them.
The left is so arrogant and ignorant. Selfish, greedy, envious and such liars. It is in their nature to be totalitarian. They allow only one point of view. Theirs. By the way these are all character traits of Satan. Different religions are not the only tools he uses. Secularism and leftism he uses for the atheists. Fair is fair, right? Why should they be left out of his schemes.
Why do teachers have such a high view of themselves? Do they want us to believe that they are altruistic? They are no better than anyone else. Most parents are better teachers. I know this goes against conventional wisdom.
Teachers get payed from the taxpayer. Therefore they need to be held accountable to the taxpayer. The unions have no right to tell us what is good for our children. By the way, the word children was used only once. After that it was all about the teachers. They are such hypocrites.

Also it’s easy to find yourself not being called for work. Construction trades, which I’m in, are different than unions which operate in plants. We travel and work for many different contractors. Average job in my skill lasts 2-4 weeks. Majority of the membership is content to ride the horse without trying to change it’s direction.

I think someo of the 99ers have some ideas of their own and know through osmosis what they want. They just need to get organized and shed themselves of the destructive behavior. I hear a lot of leftists, calling the right racist for using “code” words. It got me to pondering about their code words. Obama demonizes the rich. History repeats itself. I read a lot of anti-Semitic posts on the Internet from Obama supporters. Coincidence?

Posted on February 21, 2012 at 10:55pmI understand your point! I think the mainstream media liars who pit one group against the other, Government in general is complicit and so are the polls too. We are all Americans and separating us into different groups, pitting us against each other, this is one of the goals to divide and conquer. There will always be people talking code and full of prejudice. Good argument that we need to start teaching kids and drop all the us against them bull. I’m not Jewish and my code is you are my friend until you show me otherwise. We are all human beings that need to learn how to respect each other and, be responsible in our affairs as well. Guess I was brought up on a different planet. Take care and know there are people out there like me.
