AP reports that Police have arrested two drivers suspected of running over a toddler on a busy street in southern China on Oct. 13. The toddler died from injuries a week later .Horrific video caught by a security camera shows the toddler get plowed over by a negligent driver, and then ignored by passers-by:
The Beijing News and other outlets said Sunday that police in the city of Foshan concluded their initial investigation, and two men were formally arrested. Media outlets have not said what the two men were being charged with, and AP calls to Foshan police were unanswered.
The death of 2-year-old Wang Yue gained widespread coverage in Chinese and national media, and prompted “soul-searching over declining morality and callousness toward the sufferings of others.”
Police were able to identify the negligent vehicles after examining the security video footage.
For seven minutes after the first van struck the girl, 18 people walked or cycled by the bleeding toddler until a scrap picker embraced the girl and took her to her mother.

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 8:48amThis had nothing to do with Communism and everything to do with apathy. It seems to be a growing infection in Asian culture to not care about your brother. I witnessed a guy on a scooter crash, and no one helped him or asked him if he was alright. They just walked on past him without so much as a helping hand or a concerned comment. This is Asian culture. Not communism.

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 11:48amNo, this is what happens when secular humanism takes hold. This is what happens when cultures lose their morality. Communism plays a role in that process through the removal of a cultures religion. Religion that is often at the core of a cultures morality. Additionally, communism removes individuality and reduces people to a mere part of a collective. This is not just an “Asian” problem and I’m certain many Japanese and Koreans would take umbrage with your claim. Especially North Koreans.
Report Post »Elena2010
Posted on October 24, 2011 at 1:16pmNo secular humanism is a product of the Enlightenment and post-Christian Europe. Secular humanism would have picked the child up.
It has to do w/a lack of Judeo-Christian ethical thinking in Asian cultures. Filial piety resides solely in the family and does not necessarily extend outward. Neither does Buddhism necessarily extend kindness outward — bad karma, paying for the flaws of past lives, etc.

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 1:43pmI must agree, and there are many reasons for the apathy, most of all are the laws regarding liablity of drivers. For example, in the very free Republic of the Philippines they have a very similar problem, although you don’t see the same level of apathy, if a pedestrian is hit by a bus, since the pedestrian always has right of way by law, is is very common for the driver to ‘finish the job’ because it is cheaper to pay for a funeral rather than medical expenses. In any case it is abhorrent, but it is a complicated issue.

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 5:45pmCommunism is apathy towards life. So yes, what happened to this child has everything to do with communism. Devaluing life is what it is all about. Why do you think Europeans stood back and let millions of Jewish people be treated so barbarically – absence of God. That is why you will never find God in the communist, progressive or socialist agenda. It makes it alot easier for “society” to let mass killings (abortions) happen if they believe that man came from apes. But if we care patterned after God and made “in his image”, than life is priceless because of our God imprint. We in essence become temples of his Holy Spirit, and it is a tad bit harder for a government to justify to the people their right to decide who can live and can die. God reserves that right. To bad this younger generation does not understand this.

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 6:25pmTipdog, I lived in China for 7 years this past decade and married a Chinese lady while there. In China it’s the opposite of say Arizona where the pedestrian rules. In China cars rule over pedestrians and it’s the pedestrians fault for being in the road. After arriving in China, to my surprise Chinese socialism is nothing like western socialism. The reason China, has money to loan the USA, is because in China there are no, repeat no handouts. All previous agreements of cradle to the grave “care” (if you could call it that) before “socialist capitalism” (as they call it) enriched the Chinese economy, are now null and void. Go to the hospital with no cash and you die on the spot and then removed. Go to the market and no money no food. So no one would get involved and take financial responsibility as Elena2010 put it because it was outside the family.
Report Post »Of course it’s called socialist capitalism because it is all owned by the socialist party. Shipping ports, manufacturing, everything of importance owned and operated by rich, high position party members who share the wealth out of party loyalty.
Recently in Beijing, (party headquarters) some grade schools now have government supported free admission in some areas. Previously like the rest of the country every grade of school was paid for by the parents total sacrifice for their own children. Who in hopes would care for them in their old age. There is deep family commitment for this reason but no Bible, Good Samaritan public

As far as the Chinese culture of death (one-child per family, abandon trapped miners early because labour is cheap) is concerned, a small child run over by two trucks and ignored by most passersby is just business as usual.

Posted on October 23, 2011 at 8:13pmMy boss was in China in 2005 and said that they had passed a gruesome car accident on the highway where the driver involved was outside of the car clearly in need of care. Everyone drove past and when my boss and his colleagues inquired as to why no one stopped they were told that if they stopped they would be held accountable and blamed for the accident. They have been taught evolution for 80 years. Should we expect anything different? People always question the decline of morality but never point it back to the loss of Judeo Christian beliefs. People truly do love the darkness more that the light.

Posted on October 23, 2011 at 9:06pmAs an Agnostic that does not hold your Judeo-Christian beliefs, I am appalled. I would not have left the child there to die. It’s government and the law. It’s true, many people in china are afraid to help because of court decisions that blame the good samaraitan.
Report Post »Secessionista
Posted on October 23, 2011 at 9:27pmWe have many laws just like that here in America, and we have many judges just like the one in China who found the good samaritan guilty. We do not elect judges based upon their morals, ethics, or integrity. Most of the time, it is the most conniving lawyer in the party who wants to wield power and is willing to sell out to the elite party leadership to get the spot. And this happens from the bottom of the totem pole to the top. America is no better than China, and we are decaying while they sincerely ask themselves how could this happen. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that communist China will be a much freer place than America in 20 years. The trends will continue, we decay and they improve, and they will pass us not only by economic measures, but also by moral measures within 20 years. Americans will flee America to live free in China.
Ron Paul is the last great statesman and only constitutionalist running for president. America will not elect him into office and for that, the entire history of this nation will veer and realize it’s final “manifest destiny” – erosion into chaos and despotism. It will still be called “democracy”, it’s just that no one will want to have anything to do with that abomination of the term.
Godspeed, my fellow citizens. My only joy is that I will not live through the worst parts of it. My only sadness is that my children might choose to stay here and suffer the worst of our final days.

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 10:50am@Secessionista, I have a home in Shanghai and most of what you say is true. I love the Chinese people. The kids are very pro American (not liberal America) and are hard working and polite. People really look out for one another including the police. I don’t know why we are making China our enemy. I urge others to travel there to see for themselves. There are many Americans that live there. There are plenty of places in America where this atrocity could happen and does. There are bad people and neighborhoods everywhere. China is the future. Where there is capital flight, there in lies the future.
