CBS News correspondent Lara Logan was released from the hospital Wednesday “in remarkably good spirits,” despite the severe trauma she suffered at the hands of a mob of Egyptian men last Friday.
According to ABC News, Logan is now is resting at her Washington, D.C.-area home with her husband and two children.
Additionally, new details of her ordeal are coming to light, just one day after CBS News announced she had been targeted in Cairo’s Tahrir Square as protesters celebrated the resignation of then-President Hosni Mubarak.
Howard Kurtz reports that Logan had been arrested and deported from Egypt at the height of the anti-government protests. She told Esquire magazine that she and her crew had been “arrested, detained, and interrogated. Blindfolded, handcuffed, taken at gunpoint, our driver beaten.”
In addition, ABC News reports Logan and her crew were accused of being spies:
She later returned to Egypt, however, to interview Wael Ghonim, the Google executive who became a rallying figure in the Egyptian revolution.
In addition to recovering to a point where she could finally return home, the CBS foreign affairs correspondent also received phone call from President Barack Obama Wednesday, the White House reported. The president is said to have offered his condolences, but neither CBS nor the White House offered any further details of the private conversation. Press secretary Jay Carney only added that “violence against journalists was unacceptable, and that the perpetrators of violence needed to be held accountable.”

Posted on February 17, 2011 at 12:08pmThe trouble with this story is that if you questions, doubt or suspect any thing different than what Logan or CBS have to say about it you’re a very, very bad person and extremely insensitive.
Yet, this woman isn’t beyond reproach in her past behavior and seems to be an opportunist.
Therefore, a reasonable and objective minded person must keep an open mind to the possibility that she could possibly be exaggerating what happen in order to gain attention for her reporting. Especially, when one considers how competitive the news has become since FOX as become a dominate player and two of their reporters were attacked and actually have the physical damage to prove it. Where is Logan’s marks of attack? Why is she and CBS not reporting on the details that substantiate her story? Certainly, if it were conservative woman who was attacked they would want the proof, all of the details and facts … yet, they seem to want to just dismiss the specifics and demand that we all believe her without question or doubt. And, condemn without proof those who are accused of attacking her and anyone who should question her.
It just don’t smell right … but perhaps I’m mistaken

Posted on February 17, 2011 at 1:02pmYou’re one of the video-proof generation: would you react the same way if your female family member was raped and no one believed her unless she provided video evidence?
The Blaze’s far right wingers are blinded by such hate that they have lost their humanity and compassion.
That’s what scares all of us: Palin and Bachmann are identical in their skewed outlook to humankind.

Posted on February 17, 2011 at 6:58pmGenerally, the last thing a woman wants to do after being sexually assaulted is to keep talking about it and reliving it so theblaze.com users can confirm she is telling the truth.
I wouldn’t know though, I’m not a woman/never been raped. Just an assumption.

Posted on February 17, 2011 at 11:56amI’m sorry that she was attacked. However, Muslim men cover their own women because the men have about as little self control as a 12 year old.
Report Post »umbrla
Posted on February 17, 2011 at 1:18pmYou should not generalize that these men have as much self control as a twelve year old boy. My twelve year old boy does not go around assaulting women okay. I am sure not all men in that country are like this either, however they do not place the same value on respecting women as other western countries. Do not forget they were chanting “jew” while assaulting her. Don’t you all think we should be more concerned about the fact that there will now be war pending between the two countires…..Israel and Egypt. The president was a bad guy, but he did uphold the treaty.

On top of that we cannot seem to get a straight answer as to how extensive her injuries were. We are also seeing how it is also become a political football.

Posted on February 17, 2011 at 3:53pmYou nailed it! Where is the outrage? We Americans used to be respected because if you insult (hurt, kill, kidnap, etc.) one of us, we show up and inflict whatever force necessary to get our people back or exact justice. Except when the Dems are in power ala Carter and the botched rescue attempt in ‘79. All of these limp wristed politicians and their cronies are somehow silent about this.

Posted on February 17, 2011 at 4:25amWe need to understand, these people are not like most of our boys and men! Please keep in mind, most of the time the women they see are relatives! If she was uncovered like I’m sure she was she stood out like a sore thumb! The mob separated her from the news crew and then attacked her! What most people don’t understand is that mulsim culture, separates women and men! Theres a reason for this, thats why they separate it in schools, a mosque, daily life, walking down streets and even in the work place! How many women did you see on the street before mubarak resigned? Women cover themselves because they don’t want to entice the boys and men! Its the muslim culture! Why do you think they entice suicide bombers with 72 virgins? Same philosophy! I’m sorry for what happened to her, and I ask that My God Jesus heal her! Yes they should have had better security!

Call me cynical, but I don’t believe for an instant this woman was touched. If she was, or not, this story blows away the MSM meme that Islamists are peaceful and all other kinds of lovey-dovey as they’ve been trying to say since 9/12/01.

Posted on February 17, 2011 at 12:45amI forgot to add, had Lara been afforded REAL security professionals, they would have never allowed her to enter that mob. CBS got what they paid for, security wise. Then again, I am sure “Get a story/copy at any price” is the Dan Rather-CBS model. Lara, the security detail and everyone else there was expendible, of course, in the eyes of corporate. All the more for juicy headlines…that they will twist for whatever the angle of the day is. Sick.

Report Post »Reporting on situations like the turmoil in Egypt can be a very dangerous task. I am in no way blaming Ms.Logan, but when you lie down with dogs you may just get bitten.
In other words, you need to weigh the risks before wandering into unknown territory. Perhaps she paid too much heed to the reports from her own media claiming that these were “peaceful” protestors.
She could be an unfortunate victim of believing the mainstream media “hype”.

It was a mob of people who were not even peacefully protesting as portrayed. Maybe if our President had not encited the people in the square there may not have been a problem. The other lesson to be learned….We women may want the same opportunities as the men get, but sometimes when we are dealing with cultures that have no problem treating women in this way, we as women need to understand and back off pushing for the opportunity. I am not saying it is her fault in any way, but her comapny should have been more responsible in their decision to send her.
