Update: ATF‘s ’Project Gunrunner’ Weapons Turning Up in Arizona Crimes

A local Arizona news station has uncovered some startling new evidence showing the extent of the ineptitude surrounding the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) and it’s failed “project gunrunner program.” According to the station, guns that the ATF allowed to be purchased by suspicious individuals in the U.S. and then “walked” to and distributed in Mexico are turning up in area crimes.

According to ABC15 in Phoenix, several weapons from local investigations match weapons in the ATF-approved sales:

“I believe that these firearms will continue to turn up at crime scenes on both sides of the border for years to come,” Phoenix Special Agent Peter Forcelli testified last week before Congress. And it seems he was right:

The ABC15 Investigators uncovered documents showing guns connected to at least two Glendale criminal cases and at least two Phoenix criminal cases also appear in the ATF’s Suspect Gun Database, a sort-of watch list for suspicious gun sales.

All four cases involve drug-related offenses. In one Glendale police report dated July 2010, police investigators working with DEA agents served search warrants at homes near 75th and Glendale avenues in Glendale, and 43rd and Glendale avenues in Phoenix as part of a “large scale marijuana trafficking” investigation.

Police investigators reported they “obtained information that members of the (trafficking) organization were using the homes…as stash houses used to store large amounts of marijuana temporarily.”

They reported finding hundreds of pounds of marijuana, more than $63,000 in U.S. currency and three guns inside the homes. One of the recovered weapons, a Romarm/Cugir WASR-10 rifle, appeared in an official ATF Suspect Gun Summary document in November 2009, proving agents knowingly allowed the suspicious gun sale, months before the weapon turned up at the crime scene.

In a separate Glendale Police Department case, dated November 2010, detectives discovered “bulk marijuana and weapons” inside a residence near 75th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Glendale. Investigators recovered nearly 400 pounds of drugs and several firearms from the home.

One of the recovered weapons, another Romarm/Cugir WASR-10 rifle, appeared in an official ATF Suspect Gun Summary document in February 2010.

The project’s guns have already been linked to the death of U.S. border agent Brian Terry.

    I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: The ATF is the slack-jawed, mouth breathing, red-headed stepchild of govt. alphabet soup agencies. When this story first surfaced, my money was on govt. creating a problem so as to excuse any draconian responses to “fix” the problem. So far the only professional casualty is a whistleblower within the agency… who (per the govt.) wasn’t “released” as retaliaton. Right…. This, of course, excludes those people actually shot by weapons the ATF knowingly directed to criminals. Good job, chumps! You are dangerously AND laughably inept. And apparently not open to criticism or self-improvement.
    Nice to see the jovial, leftist nihilists celebrating govt. stupidity. Laugh on, fellows! I enjoy watching partisans defend the indefensible. No cogent argument or plausible defense… just the ol’ reliable argument ad hominem. How bold. How fresh.

    The people, ALL THE PEOPLE, envolved with this gun running “operation” should be charged and prosecuted the same as anyone else who would transfer guns in an illegal manner like they did.
    If it was you or I, they would put us in jail for a long time! And that is where they should go….TO PRISON!!

      From the day I first heard of this, I beleived that the only reason Holder’s ATF did this in the first place was to attack our second amendment rights. They will have to try something else now that that got caught.
      P.S. I do not know if this new format is a technical glitch or on purpose, but I don’t like it.

      At least one state already has. Check out SB-22, California 1999. This thing outlaws almost everything. They even copied the term “slung” from the Reconstruction Era Texas law. People up north call that thing a “sap”, a sock filled with sand, ball bearings, pebbles, etc. It’s probably the same way in NYC, Massachusetts (Romney passed that one.) and Chicago, if not Illinois.

      This was too big of an operation for Holder and Obama to not know about. And all the while this was going on they were spouting about the illegal trafficking of guns into Mexico from the US – one of the big anti-gun talking points. Had we not know about this, the same guns used to kill our agents and others, and commit crimes would have been lumped into that category. At the very least Holder should be fired.

      Holder won‘t be forced to resign because Americans are sleep and aren’t paying attention to what is happening in our own country. And by the time they get fded up with this crap, Obama will have already been voted out of office.
      Operation Gunrunner was never intended to do anything but attempt to substantiate Obama’s claims that American guns were killing Mexicans. Remember Obama’s press conference with the Mexican President, Felipe Coulderon? It’s a ridiculous attempt to shame Americans into giving up their 2nd Amendment rights. Obama and Holder, in addition to many other Justice and ATF officials should be held responsible and jailed for this criminal conspiracy. But it will never happen. This administration is ignoring the constitution and the law of the USA. And nobody is saying anything about it. So they will just continue to do so. So stay asleep Americans. It may not be guns they’re going for next. Maybe it will be your right to own a vehicle. Freedom of speech, assembly, etc. Or to have more than 1 child. Or your right to keep the assests you have, such as your money, house and job. We‘re giving it all up and I don’t understand why.

      So the purpose of reports on this issue is to put forth the notion that the ATF is at the heart of the gun problem in the US. It was their idea to allow people to purchase guns at gun shows without background checks. They are the investors and shop owners supporting the increasing number of gun shops on the boarder selling guns which go back into Mexico. Is it possible for people to separate the 2nd amendment from the serious issues we have with guns getting into the wrong hands.

Even if you were able to rid the nation of guns through banning them, those who lack a sound moral compass will still kill each other with knives, and if you eliminate knives, they will kill each other with forks. Or pencils. And if you think outlawing guns will rid us of guns, take a look at how outlawing drugs fifty years ago has worked out, or how the fifty-year war on poverty has increased it. By teaching children that right and wrong are man-determined and relative you doom them to a world of horror. Ask those who have survived where it has been tried: The USSR, Communist China, Castro’s Cuba, Cambodia under Pol Pot. Wake up people. It’s almost too late.

      It is plain as day that this was an orchestrated effort, by the executive echelon in the Just-a-Department and the ATF, to trump up the statistics of the gun crimes committed in Mexico with American weapons. The rank-and-file ATF agents had severe misgivings and objections to this outlandish operation and were it not for them blowing the lid off this CRIME, we would not know about it. It has completely backfired on the crooks in charge. If there were any justice, all these fools will pay for what they’ve done. Odd how we aren’t seeing statistics on how many of the American guns used in crimes in Mexico were sold or given by our government to the Mexican government for police and military use……..I wonder if those numbers are being lumped in there as well????       Legally No one in the Gov starts a program like this without approval from justice or some direct order above ATF. Other that that anyone in the Gov could just run off and do what it wants. Now, from what I’ve read the ATF authorized by “someone” in the Gov went to gun shops and asked them to sell any amount of guns to whoever walked in with some form of ID with the ATF basically present. Several years ago there was a stink started by the Mexican president that there were guns in the hands of cartels that were smuggled or sold to them in the US. Even our illustrious leader made a point of it. This started a series of anti gun politicians screaming to change the laws to placate the Mexicans. Now,this selling of guns has brought to light that individuals were not selling the guns but our own Gov. with the dubious intent to trace their route into Mexico. The liberal gun law politicians still want the laws changed and say the ATF‘s Congressional Hearings don’t mean anything. Clinton wants the US to conform to the idiot Globalist UN resolutions that ban all guns. She says she will sign it as the UN has responsibility over everyone this way…BS.

      I have a sneaky feeling this “gunrunner Program” was an attempt by our lovely Justice Dept. (Eric Holder & obummer) to undermine our 2nd ammendment rights and get new gun legislation passed. Hopefully it has backfired on them. I really hope we can find the truth on this mess.

      We know Katrina was deliberate. TODAY it is leaking out that the mid-west flooding could have ALSO been prevented like Katriana. They ARE overwhelming the system, with the end game of the collapse.
      THESE PEOPLE ARE CRIMINALS THAT NEED TO BE TAKE OUT OF THE SYSTEM ASAP.

      Where are the patriots on the Hill/Scotus/the Pentagon??? They are ALSO in charge. When are they going to move to eradicate these criminals? Are they waiting for the collapse? Are they in on it?
      Most of them won’t live throught the collapse like they think they will, lording over the hapless masses.

      This is just one more example of how far the results of the dirty tricks the administration will pull to get their own way; they allowed these guns to be purchased, and then some of them are used in the US – my state in particular!

      Whoever is involved in this, from the top on down that allowed this farce to occur should be held to account in the criminal court system.
