WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann is acknowledging “misspeaking” occasionally, including wrongly claiming that actor John Wayne was from her Waterloo, Iowa hometown, but says she’s “a substantive, serious person” who would be a good president.
Bachman, who announced her candidacy on Monday, flubbed her hometown history in a weekend interview in which she declared “John Wayne was from Waterloo” and “that’s the kind of spirit that I have, too.”
The actor was born nearly 150 miles away. It was the serial killer John Wayne Gacy Jr. who lived, for a time, in Waterloo.
The GOP congresswoman told CNN on Tuesday her comments “were just misspeaking” and that her main intent was to show she identified with Wayne’s patriotism.
“I wish I could be perfect,” Bachmann said. “I’m a substantive, serious person“ who has ”good sense on how to turn the economy around” as president.

Posted on June 28, 2011 at 11:03amShe’s pure class. Besides, it was only a coincidence that slimeball Gacy lived in IA and shared a portion of The Duke’s name. Bachmann misspoke regarding where The Duke lived. No one gives a damn where the serial killer was born, unless you’re a “follower.”

Posted on June 28, 2011 at 10:16amNow did she simply flub what she meant to say on this too:
BACHMANN: “The farm is my father-in-law’s farm. It’s not my husband and my farm. It’s my father-in-law’s farm. And my husband and I have never gotten a penny of money from the farm.” — On “Fox News Sunday.”
THE FACTS: In personal financial disclosure reports required annually from members of Congress, Bachmann reported that she holds an interest in a family farm in Independence, Wis., with her share worth between $100,000 and $250,000.
The farm, which was owned by her father-in-law, produced income for Bachmann of at least $32,500 and as much as $105,000 from 2006 through 2009, according to the reports she filed for that period. The farm also received federal crop and disaster subsidies, according to a database maintained by the Environmental Working Group. From 1995 through 2010, the farm got $259,332 in federal payments.
Seems a little more like a lie to me!!!
Report Post »harumph
Posted on June 28, 2011 at 10:28amDid he sell the farm and give her money for it? In fact, did her father-in-law give her ANY money? I get a kick out of baseless claims from the left, based on class warfare. You have a “share” in it, therefore, you received money for it. Once he sells it, she will get her share.

Posted on June 28, 2011 at 10:37am90% of the liberals Bush misspeaks were stuff taken out of context, hack jobs from multiple speeches, etc. The tapes of Obama are full unedited clips. I’m pretty sure she knew the history of her town, I bet growing up, the town claimed John Wayne as one of their own, since his parents were from there. If you grow up hearing someone if from your home town all your life, why would you doubt it. I once lived in a town where Magic Johnston’s grandmother lived, the town claimed Magic as one of their own, even though he or his parents weren’t from the town, just his grandmother, something they never pointed out.

Posted on June 28, 2011 at 12:48pmThere are already “reels” (web collections on YouTube, C-SPAN and other non-DemonCrap sites) of Bachmann’s actual speeches and writings in FULL context – that have existed for years. She earned her flake title the old fashioned way, speaking before Congress about a presidential visit to India with 37 Warships.

In the long run, “true” facts are not as important as “good speech,” after all, as they say, “strong words” can paint verbal pictures that inspire and motivate listeners to believe certain ways and even act certain ways. It’s more important for people to feel and act the way they need to, than to be “truthful.”

But yes, since she’s a Conservative woman, she’ll be picked to death unmercilessly, but she knows that. She chose to endure all that for the good of the country.
