Update: Casey Anthony Will Be Freed From Prison Next Wednesday

Update: Casey Anthony Will Be Freed From Prison Next WednesdayORLANDO, Fla. (The Blaze/AP) — Earlier, The Blaze reported that Casey Anthony could go free in a month. But now, the young woman is officially slated to be freed next week after spending nearly three years in jail on accusations she murdered her 2-year-old daughter. The case captured the nation’s attention and divided many over whether a killer had been acquitted.

While cleared of charges of killing and abusing her daughter Caylee, Anthony was convicted of lying to investigators and sentenced Thursday to four years. But she was given credit for the time she has already served and her good behavior, and a court official said she would be released Wednesday. WTSP.com has more:

…the judge met with attorneys to calculate how long Casey will stay in jail, after time served is factored into the sentence.

Shortly before noon, it was announced Anthony was credited 1,043 days of time served.

That calculation — that she will be released July 13 — was announced just after at 11:30 a.m. Thursday by a court spokeswoman.

Inside the courtroom, before her sentenced was announced, Anthony was animated, smiling and occasionally played with her hair, which was let down for the first time since her trial began in late May. Perhaps she thought, like many, that she would be let go as early as Thursday. Her demeanor changed to stone-faced when she heard she would be spending more time in jail.

The scene outside the courthouse highlighted a divide that has had social networking sites abuzz since the not guilty verdict was announced Tuesday. Amid increased police presence, a throng of protesters gathered near the courthouse, holding signs that said “Arrest the Jury!!“ and ”Jurors 1-12 Guilty of Murder.” Nearby, a handful of supporters also turned out, including a man who held a sign asking Casey Anthony to marry him.

A day after Caylee was reported missing in July 2008, Anthony was interviewed by police and told them several lies. She lied about working at the Universal Studios theme park, about leaving her daughter with a non-existent nanny named Zanny, about leaving the girl with friends and about receiving a phone call from her.

Her defense attorneys argued before sentencing that her convictions should be combined into one, but Judge Belvin Perry disagreed. He also fined her $1,000 on each count.

At the time of the girl’s disappearance, Anthony, a single mother, and Caylee were living with Anthony’s parents, George and Cindy Anthony, in suburban Orlando. Prosecutors contended Anthony, then 22, suffocated Caylee with duct tape because she was interfering with her desire to be with her boyfriend and party with her friends.

Defense attorneys countered that the toddler accidentally drowned in the family swimming pool. They said that when Anthony panicked, her father, a former police officer, decided to make the death look like a murder. They said he put duct tape on the girl’s mouth and then dumped the body in woods about a quarter-mile away.

The defense said Anthony’s apparent carefree life hid emotional distress caused by sexual abuse from her father. Her father firmly denied both the cover-up and abuse claims. The prosecution called those claims absurd, and said no one makes an accident look like a murder.

Anthony stopped staying at the family house after the girl disappeared. She told her mother by phone that she and Caylee were spending time with friends. When Cindy Anthony asked to see Caylee, she said her daughter told her a series of lies: that they were in Jacksonville with a rich boyfriend Anthony concocted; that Caylee was with Zanny; that Zanny had been in a car crash and they were spending time with her in the hospital.

In mid-July 2008, Cindy and George Anthony were contacted by a towing yard that their daughter’s car had been impounded for being abandoned and would be junked if not claimed. When George Anthony picked it up, he and the tow yard manager said it had the overwhelming stench of human decomposition. The defense said the smell was caused by a bag of trash that was in the trunk.

In one of the biggest and most important fights of the six-week trial, a prosecution scientist said the trunk contained air molecules consistent with a human body having decomposed there – but the defense questioned his methods and said they were unproven.

Jurors declined to talk with reporters immediately after Tuesday’s verdict. But juror Jennifer Ford told ABC News in an interview that it was because “we were sick to our stomach to get that verdict.”

“We were crying and not just the women,” Ford said in an interview posted on the network’s website Wednesday night. “It was emotional and we weren’t ready.”

Ford, a 32-year-old nursing student, said the case was a troubling one.

“I did not say she was innocent,” Ford said. “I just said there was not enough evidence. If you cannot prove what the crime was, you cannot determine what the punishment should be.”

The prosecution didn’t paint a clear enough picture of what happened to Caylee, Ford said.

“I have no idea what happened to that child,” Ford said.

As the sentencing was announced, Flora Reece, an Orlando real estate broker, stood outside the courthouse holding a sign that read “Arrest the Jury.”

“At least she won’t get to pop the champagne cork tonight,” Reece said of the judge’s decision to keep Anthony in jail for now.

The crowd of a few dozen emotionally charged protesters occasionally chanted “justice for Caylee.”

There handful of Anthony supporters included Tim Allen of Orlando. The 24-year-old cook at a pizza shop held a sign asking Anthony to marry him.

“Everyone deserves a second chance.” Allen said. “She’s beautiful. Put some makeup on her, she’s gorgeous.”

Authorities in Florida were being mostly quiet about what might take place when Anthony is released. There are obvious complications with her returning to her parents’ home, where she lived before she was jailed, given the stinging accusations her attorneys leveled against them during the trial.

It’s not clear what the future holds when Anthony is released. Threats have been made against her, and online she is being vilified. More than 17,000 people “liked” the “I hate Casey Anthony” page on Facebook, which included comments wishing her the same fate that befell little Caylee.

Ti McCleod, who lives a few doors from Anthony’s parents, said: “Society is a danger to Casey; she’s not a danger to society.”

Her family also has been fractured by her attorneys‘ unproved claims that Anthony’s father and brother molested her and the contention that her father participated in a cover-up of Caylee’s death. When the verdict was read, Anthony’s parents rose from their seats without emotion and left the courtroom. They were in the courtroom for sentencing but left without speaking to reporters.

Their attorney, Mark Lippman, has said they haven’t spoken with their daughter since the verdict, and he wouldn’t say whether they believed she was guilty.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys also did not speak to reporters.

Anthony is a high school dropout who, before her arrest, had limited work experience. Her last job was in 2006 as a vendor at Universal Studios theme park. While she once professed an interest in photography, and even found some work in the field, it’s not known whether she has skills that could translate into a career.

In a 2010 jailhouse letter to a friend, Anthony said she would like to adopt a child from Ireland “accent and all.”

The blaze needs to fix their friggin’ comment software….

….. from the little I’ve read, I feel like she killed the child. At the very least, negligent death or manslaughter…..

Perhaps the DA was too overly anxious and shot themselves in the foot with their charges.

If it’s true that Caylee drowned and the body moved, charge her with tampering with evidence.

She sounds like someone that should never be a mother. What does being molested as a child have to do with her committing this crime (that I believe she committed)?

There is NO EVIDENCE to suggest she killed her child. Does anyone think that it may have been an accident that they tried to cover up? Not a drowning, but a fall from the couch or possibly the child was being thrown in the air (as many children are), slipped and broke her neck, killing her instantly. There are many ways the child could have died (including murder), but to assume automatically that the mother killed the child is a jump in logic I don’t understand. I guess I try to think the best of people. OK, she went out and partied, but last time I checked, being a horrible mother doesn’t make you a killer. Was she negligent? Yes. Is her story really strange? Yes. Is her attitude correct at the appropriate time? No. My SPECULATION is that they know how the baby died, whether or not that was murder we will probably never know. From the whole family’s reaction, it seems to me like it was an accidental death that they attempted to cover up. Hence the going out, lying, and strange reactions/facial expressions. Just my two cents, but there is no way to know for sure whether she is or is not a murderer. That’s a fact without evidence of cause of death and motive.

If it was an accident, she could have called the police, and what about the duct tape ? Oh and she is out partying, and does not report her missing for 31 days ? why do you need to know the exact cause of death ? the child did not commit suicide, what more evidence did they expect ? a video tape of her actually doing it ? what about the high traces of chloroform ? or her making up the imaginary babysitter ? Seriously, before DNA, people were convicted for much less, yes I know sometimes wrongly convicted, but this is not a case of mistaken identity, In any case, she had not meet the final judge and jury, all things will be revealed when she dies, and meets the Lord face to face, and judgement will be given accordingly

Disagree-100% You don’t cover up an accidental death with a fake murder. Why would any sane person risk very very unlikely jail time if her kid was fell or drowned etc vs murder charges that could get you the chair? That‘s the logic I don’t understand which makes the point the poster tries to make stupid, stupid as hell. 2 choices. 1) flip a coin, heads? nothing. Tails? You owe me $5 2) flip a coin. heads? nothing. Tails? you die. Who ever picks 2?

…if your speculations are correct, then why duct tape the child’s mouth shut, not once not twice – but three times? simply no. if the intent was to coverup an accidental death, why dump the body so close to the home? no. why was the body just down the road near the home if both the gfather and the defendant agreed to remove the little girl after the death? why not take the body far, far away and bury it somewhere remote? hell, they had 30 days to do it…..no. no. and no. and, are you suggesting that both the gfather and the defendant chose to keep this secret from the gmother? remember, it was cindy anthony‘s 911 call that first informed the police of the missing caylee and it was only cindy’s threat to turn her daughter into the police that casey finally confessed to her mom that the child was missing….then commencing all of the lies upon lies upon lies…..no, no.

the jury just did not want to convict this woman…..did not believe the prosecutors and the evidence produced.. simple
it has been said by one of our founding fathers, unfortunately do not recall which one at the moment-franklin i believe, the future of our republic depends on the virtue of its citizens….

Yes it could have been an accident but that she could sit in a jail cell for 3 years and not come clean ,that she could show no remorse after the accidental death, this is pathological [no conscience].This lack of conscience about the death of her baby is what disturbs. Even susan smith who deliberately murdered her two children broke down eventually when caught.A pyschopath never breaks down and she is a pyschopath[though in this bizarre case perhaps it truely was an accident]Her lack of conscience worked in her favor since she never broke down but just lied at every turn or remained silent.A rare cconvergence of pyschopathology[no conscience] and an accident. The jury refused to connect any and all dots because they believe in jury nullification[they were chosen by the defense who could acertain that they would-any one who says they can't judge another person should be excluded but wasn't].Corruption on the part of the judge and the defense and the media who chose to give us wall to wall coverage only to then lambast the public after the aqquital for believing she was guilty of something more then a lie..The intent was to turn the country against the death penalty!By saying we almost condemned an innocent person.a false flag operation to abolish the death penalty.

If a death is accidental, why would someone feel a need to cover it up? A baby falls off the bed, snaps its neck – why cover it up? Just call an ambulance and tell the truth about what happened. The truth will bear out. There was no evidence to suggest tot-mom was a bad mom (at least not from the behaviors she exhibited in public to those close to her) so not criminal charges would be expected.

On the other hand, if a baby dies because of carelessness or neglect, then you may feel driven to cover up the death because now you have something to hide.

Maybe tot-mom was doping up Caylee so she could go out partying with her pals, and one day she over does it and Caylee dies as a result. Now you have something to hide. BUT why the duct tape over the mouth? To keep a dead Caylee from making noise? Dead people don’t make noise. BUT Caylee alive could make noise so tape her mouth with duct tape. That will keep her quiet…

Alternate juror says “…we all felt…” but he was released before deliberations were to begin…so how did he know how everyone felt? I’ll tell you, they were violating their duty, talking about the case, and formed a group mentality.

Ya know. I don’t like the verdict anymore than anyone else around here. But, it is what we have for a judicial system. Wrong or right we get and got what 12 of our peers decided. She will have to live with some semblance of a conscience for the rest of her life. After that….her eternity is in God’s hands. Her baby will be with the Lord, she will have Satan to keep her company. Take solace in that if nothing more.

But then again, when good lawyers can make 4 times the money defending people, no surprise what we are left with for prosecutors. It wasn’t really a fair fight.

      Ronko:
The very BEST answer I have heard so far. THANK YOU. We may not like the verdict, but I was not there to hear all the evidence and was not a Juror, so who am I to judge a book by its cover? God is much more qualified for that.

America has the very GREATEST judicial system in the world. It does have its flaws, as we all know, but it is still better than the Muslims, the Germans, the Japanese, the Russians, or anywhere else. She was judged by a jury of her peers and they found her NOT GUILTY. I am ok with that because I KNOW IN MY SOUL AND MY HEART AND MY MIND THAT GOD WILL JUDGE THIS WOMAN and that Caylee is with Jesus right now. So, let’s all leave this alone and let God handle this woman. If she is innocent and someone hurts her, then they should be punished. If you don’t like the laws, then do something legal to try and change them, otherwise STOP BEING AN ARMCHAIR REFEREE BECAUSE it matters not what you and I think – IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER.

If you’re looking for a reason for this outcome, go to the library or bookstore and buy Outrage, by Vincent Bugliosi. The first 50 pages will give you an insight into both this travesty and to a certain degree our Gov today….Well worth the read………..

I agree RONKO ….. it doesn’t matter what the verdict or the sentence ….. KARMA will catch up with her. I must admit the not guilty verdict does bother me to see how blind many people in society have become to the most obvious things.

no they didnt drop the ball they did what they thought was the right choice according to the law not what was right in the eyes of others and that is what a jury is supposed to do.

No matter what happens now, she is doing the remainder of her time as determined by the civil laws of Florida; how many people are going to come after her now though? And her family and friends?

I suspect this was some kind of horrible accident caused by someones gross carelessness. I believe the father is not some kind of go along get along meek little guy but is a control type guy and actually helped cover up the accident. The evidence did not prove that this was a capital case and that is why the jury did what they did. The prosecutor did what the people wanted him to do instead of what the evidence suggested he do. Casey Anthony is such a horrible shrew, the prosecutor thought she would make an easy target for capital prosecution (and re-election).

Justice was not served, however she will have to live the rest of her life with the death of her child. So, how can she enjoy any freedom!

“The defense said the smell was caused by a bag of trash that was in the trunk”.

I believe that is the saddest sentence I have ever read.

Americans should turn away from this POS child murder and turn away from any program that offers her a dime to rape whats left of that poor little Caley’s justice. America should shun that woman let her rot with her guilt and die alone.

Are we being manipulated again by the media? This woman is not a member of my family or my community. So many tout the catch phrase “don’t judge” and I believe misapply it. But this is a case where it does apply. I’m not on the jury, I’m not the neighbor next door, I’m not her caretaker. The jury did its job, I am not even interested in hearing about this case. Death and murder happends each day in our world and those that are brought to justice are served the best measure of justice that mortals can manage. Its not a mob rule in our country (yet) and this isn‘t American Idol where we get to call in our vote on whether or not she’s guilty. The jury said there wasn’t enough evidence to convict her and as Volatire said, better to let the guilty go free than the innocent be punished. God gave us rules to judge by and law-abiding citizens should accept the verdict and get on with life. God knows when we are right and when we are wrong and in His time will all justice be served. If this woman is innocent, then leave her alone, if she is guilty, she will wish she had had more of her justice served her here on Earth rather than in the Eternities. What evil thoughts we have in the mean time will only hurt us and add to the negativity pulling our country away from God.

With a progressive jury it was only a small step form aborting a 2 month fetus to a 2 year old loverly little girl.

In Biblical time they would scarify (abort) their first born to gods.

He who knows all shall judge her in the end if she truly is guilty she will receive a sentence. For he is the gatekeeper and none cometh to the father save by me . So says the Lord!
She will have her day and will have to live the rest of her mortal sojourn knowing what she did and it will haunt her even if she doesnt show it!

Can someone tell me if my math is wrong ? 365 days in a year right? you get four years that’s 1,460 days right? you get credit for 1,043 days right. So 1460 – 1043 = 417 days not 7 days right ?
      Something doesn’t add up.

Thanks but, ” …the judge met with attorneys to calculate how long Casey will stay in jail, after time served is factored into the sentence.

Shortly before noon, it was announced Anthony was credited 1,043 days of time served.”

Judge met with them to work out all that, so the finial number was 1,043.00 served would you not give us the finial number with the deducts in it all already ?

Ms. Anthony will pay for this longer than any jail sentence. I am willing to bet that within a few months she’ll be offered a spread by self-promoting HUSTLER maggot, Larry Flynt. Further more…she’ll take it! This will endear her even more than ever to the public.
