Update: Driver Behind Shocking Car Crash Vid Says It’s Real

This morning’s viral video of an unbelievable highway car accident has sparked quite a debate. The video shows what appears to be a 2×4 slamming through the windshield of a car. Initially, we wondered if it was fake, and explained why. You weighed in, too. As of publish time, over 66 percent of Blaze readers agreed. Turns out, it’s real.
The Wendy Cobb we couldn’t find earlier this morning surfaced on the auto website Jalopnik and told her story. According to her, she had her cell phone camera out to film, and then report, two trucks playing “cat and mouse.” But what the 40-year-old in Shelby, NC captured was much more incredible. She explains to Jalopnik:
The 2×4 was in the road, along with several others, but when the truck in front of me hit it, and then his trailer hit it, it just propelled it into me. I don‘t know why I didn’t scream or cuss or cry, I guess just pure shock, I could barely form words to call 911. But I most definitely know how lucky I was. Damage was mostly the hood and windshield, again, very lucky.
Jalopnik confirmed her story with the local police.
Cobb also told her story to the “Today” show this morning, and answered critics who say the video is fake:
Cobb said the police were stunned, with one of the officers saying, “You realize you almost filmed your own death?” Wow.
They say almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Apparently, it also counts if you’re Wendy Cobb and you film, as Jalopnik says, “the scariest car crash ever caught on video.”
Read the entire report from Jalopnik.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 3:46pmIt is a hoax. Look at the picture. There are more than one impact points on the windsheild. In order for an object of that length to penetrate the windsheild it would have had to have done it in a single impact. This shows us that the windsheild may have been broken before the plank was inserted…… Definatly a hoax.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 3:38pmSeveral years back, My wife, my son, a friend of his and I were on a family vacation. As we were driving our rental car south down I-17, just outside of Flagstaff, I heard a sound from the back seat of the car. I asked the 2 kids if they’d opened a window (it was summer in AZ – obviously the car’s AC was on!). When I glanced into the rear-view mirror, I saw my son and his friend frantically grabbing stuff off the back deck. Moments later, the rear window of the car was 20′ up in the air and landed, intact, in the middle of the interstate! I pulled over and as I was backing up to retrieve the window, an 18-wheeler came barreling down the highway and, as my son said, aimed straight for the window. Moments later, that windscreen had been reduced to dust.
It’s kind of funny to think back on it now, but we were pretty freaked out at the time.

Report Post »She is tailgating 2 trucks “playing cat and mouse”.
She deserves several fines.
Because of her participation, the real luck is that no one else on the highway was killed. What the helll is wrong with the ‘shocked’ policemen?
Itoldutheywerecommies
Posted on April 5, 2011 at 3:29pmTell me, if she was given a FINE as you so dearly want, WHO IS THE VICTIM in the “supposed” crime she is guilty of.
Quit being a nanny stater and leave the people alone!
Report Post »Ghandi was a Republican
Posted on April 5, 2011 at 3:36pmWho is the victim when you run a red light or drive home drunk? She has to SLAM ON HER BRAKES going 70 mph down the highway (You don’t find trucks jockeying for position while going the speed limit) ! That could have killed a van load of kids if they happened to be on the Highway tailgating her.
You think she had no part in this? She was filming the other lane while driving 2 trucks and trailers down the highway.
Report Post »She’s a moron. She deserves at least 3 tickets. She could have killed many.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 5:03pmYes, I forgot, thought crime and potential for a crime is NOW CRIME.
By the way, Ghandi was NOT a Republican, he was a Libertarian that believes in the freedom of one‘s body and one’s soul.
I think if he saw my write up of a Constitutional Libertarian, he would of become one. Society does need limits to freedom but not at the cost of one’s own freedom.
Do not get me wrong, I believe people that cause harm to other’s committing actions like you describe need to be punished, just not punished when NO CRIME WAS COMMITTED.
A CRIME REQUIRES a PERSON (human being) be harmed in some way. You know STANDING. The STATE (government) does NOT HAVE STANDING if no one is harmed. The STATE is not a human being.
So quit attempting to equating that the STATE is a human being.
Or are you one of those Cognitive Dissonant Republicans? You know, having TWO POLAR OPPOSITE BELIEFS IN ONE MIND? Tell me, do you believe the STATE can force you to purchase health insurance? If you do not, QUIT BEING A HYPOCRITE!

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 3:25pmI was once driving down highway 3 in E. St Louis while going to college. Bumper to bumper traveling at 55 MPH. Four lane highway divided by a turn lane. When all of a sudden a semi tire from the opposite came flying between the two lanes on my side of the highway. Have no idea where it came from or if it caused an accident. Talk about freaky.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 3:19pmShe was driving too close the truck in front of her for the speed they were going. She should have received a ticket for that when she showed the video to the police as she said she did. One car length for every 10 mph is what I learned. I say she was doing about 50, but she was within two car lengths. And just why was she recording video at the time? And what was that white plate under her speedo?

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 4:22pmCompletely agree with you.
I‘m glad she’s OK, but she should not have been drinving while filming. That’s way more distracting than talking on a cell phone. And if she hadn’t been following so close (remember the 2 second rule), she would not have been hit by that board.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 2:58pmI have seen so many things “fall” off trucks and such going up and down highways that I don’t doubt that it happened … once the first day of a trip we had almost the same thing happen .. then the tire blew out on the truck in front of us .. and then we had to “duck” between barricades when an emergency vehicle needed to get through a construction zone. I was starting to wonder if the whole trip would be like that .. but after the first day everything went smoothly. Please if you are carrying things in the back of a vehicle make CERTAIN it can’t “fall” off or out.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 3:07pmYou can never be careful enough while driving I have come across some big objects in the road, one time driving through Atlanta at night I was following traffic and the car ahead of me all of a sudden swerved and I struck a deer before I had any time to react as the car ahead had the danger completely obstructed from my view if I would have swerved I would have sideswiped another car so had no choice but to run over the deer which was lying in the road having just been hit by another car.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 3:13pmIt’s also a good thing nobody hit her from behind. She should have been driving in the right lane and only in the left lane to pass. Posted on April 5, 2011 at 3:13pmEven more strange is what happened to my in-laws. My husband bought his father a car (better looking than their trusty rusty Buick), and they were out riding in it. A truck in front of them was hauling off pieces of a house that had been demolished when wind got under a section of a gable and sent it airborne — into the windshield and through the car! My father-in-law slammed on brakes, throwing my mother-in-law forward. She was short and was not wearing a seatbelt. The gable cleared her head, leaving only scratches. The grandmother in the back seat was thrown into the back floorboard, and the gable cleared her head, too, before it knocked out the rear windshield.
If either of them had been wearing a seatbelt, they would have been decapitated!

She WAS in the left lane to pass. The problem was the truck in front of her was clogging the passing lane. That’s the reason she was filming in the first place. If people would actually read and understand the articles on this site before posting, it would save a lot of space.
