Update: FAA Chief Resigns Over Drunk Driving Incident

FAA Chief Randy Babbitt Resigns Over Drunk Driving

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — Randy Babbitt says he will resign as head of the Federal Aviation Administration following his arrest over the weekend on charges of drunken driving.

Babbitt said in a statement Tuesday that he didn’t want to allow anything to “cast a shadow” on the work done by his colleagues at the FAA.

The 65-year-old Babbitt was arrested Saturday night in Fairfax City, Va., by a patrolman who said the FAA administrator was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Just yesterday The Blaze reported that Babbitt had been placed on administrative leave pending a review of his employment by the FAA.

He deserved to be fired because drunk driving is no joke. There is no excuse he can make for that to be okay. To those people who feel sorry for him don’t because he could have killed someone.

His problem is that he is not the president of the biggest library system making over half a million a year who gets arrested with 0.19 BAC. If he were, he would get to keep his job and people would be in awe:

New York Library Chief Caught in DWI Arrest

BY JENNIFER MALONEY AND SEAN GARDINER

The new president of the New York Public Library, Anthony Marx, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated Sunday after he sideswiped a parked vehicle with his library-owned Audi, law-enforcement officials said Monday.

His blood alcohol level was 0.19, more than twice the legal limit when he took a Breathalyzer test at a precinct, according to the criminal complaint and authorities.

Dr. Marx, who is 52 years old and lives in Morningside Heights, took the helm of the world’s largest circulating library three months ago. Previously, he was president of Amherst College, an elite liberal-arts college in Massachusetts.

I feel sorry for him, alcohalism is no joke, but he did deserve to loose his job. I wish him well, hope he gets the help he needs.

The ‘guilty until proven innocent’ policies of first drug testing, then including alcohol testing per FAA mandate, were policies that my husband lived with for years. His company fired people, no questions asked, no retest (in case of false positives), and no chance to rehab…just a hard landing with no parachute. This clown will probably just get reassigned to another cushy govt. post.

Kudos to the airplane mechanics with the scarred knuckles and the well-kept box of tools for keeping the flying public safe.

Well, at least this idiot is losing his job over his DWI arrest. He is/was the administrator of the FAA, who has no qualms about yanking the medical certificates and ending the career of any pilot that gets a DWI, even when it was not acquired during an episode related to their job. Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly not endorsing pilots drinking, but there is a mandatory disclosure we have to fill out when we renew our medicals, that asks if we have had any DWI convictions and we give authorization for our driving records to be searched to prove or disprove what we say. So, it’s nice, that at least this once, the FAA is being held to something approaching the same standards as they hold us to.

Abusers take care of abusers, and that’s probably how he got the job to begin with.
