WASHINGTON (TheBlaze/AP) — A Virginia man has been charged in federal court in the shooting of a security guard at the headquarters of a conservative Christian lobbying group.
Federal authorities say Floyd Lee Corkins II, 28, told a guard at the Family Research Council, “I don’t like your politics” before shooting him in the arm. The guard, Leo Johnson, and others helped subdue Corkins, who was taken into custody.

He’s been charged with assault with intent to kill and with bringing a firearm across state lines. Authorities found a box of ammunition and 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches in his backpack.
As TheBlaze initially reported, Johnson, who was an employee of the FRC, was taken to a hospital in stable condition after being shot.
“Our first concern is with our colleague who was shot today,” the group’s president, Tony Perkins, said in a statement on Wednesday.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said in a statement that he was appalled by the shooting. “There is no place for such violence in our society,” he said. “My prayers go out to the wounded security guard and his family, as well as all the people at the Family Research Council whose sense of security has been shattered by today’s horrific events.”
The Family Research Council advocates conservative positions on social issues and strongly opposes gay marriage and abortion. Fox News reported that Corkins posed as an intern.

They do have the same civil rights as everyone else regarding marriage. They just can’t marry lawfully if they a man wishes to marry a man or a woman wishes to marry a woman. Just as a man cant marry a minor? Or a dolphin? We have laws governing marriage for a reason. Do we want 12 year olds marrying without parental consent?

It would appear that the list is a list of organizations that it is okay to hate. Needless to say FRC is on the list. As the LBGT population has made abundantly clear, endorsing and working to maintain traditional marriage constitutes ‘hate’ in their twisted logic. The irony of the hatred that the SPLC is fostering is lost on them altogether.

When abortion dr’s are assaulted or killed, that is just god’s will and certainly not a crime. When anyone that is gay or gay friendly gets abused, beaten, shot, robbed, mugged…that is also not a big problem, because they asked for it. This list just continues on and on, but the point is made. So why would anyone be surprised by this? When organizations either outright promote violence or as in the case of any ‘family first’ group, passively promote violence and intolerance, someone is going to eventually snap. Perhaps show a little less distain for people (while using gods name to justify it) and find out that people are less apt to want to hurt you, as you have hurt them. Anger only begets anger and because of the outright abysmal behavior of the Family Research Council, an innocent man has been shot. Hopefully many will pray for the Research Council to amend it ways and become a productive member of society and not one that steeped with vitriolic anger, but hides it, once again with god and the word ‘family’.

And on what planet is violence justified for any reason? Not mine, though it’s getting there. I support FRC as I grew up with Adventures in Odyssey and I learned some morals from them. But you can‘t tell me that they’re a hate group without showing me a hate crime. Preaching one’s beliefs is not a crime… yet.
