Update: Klein Tries to Clarify ‘Confusing’ Constitution Comments

Apparently we all misunderstood what Washington Post writer Ezra Klein was trying to say on MSNBC Thursday morning as he derided Republicans’ planned reading of the U.S. Constitution on the floor of the House of Representatives as a “gimmick.”
After Klein was criticized for saying that the Constitution was “confusing” because it was written more than 100 years ago, Klein took to his Washington Post blog to once again condemn the GOP’s proposal as “toxic” and to clarify what he meant in his Thursday morning MSNBC appearance:
The initial interpretation was that I’d said the Constitution is too complicated to understand because it was written a long time ago, and then, as the day went on, that I’d said the document itself is nonbinding. I went back and watched the clip — or at least the part someone clipped and sent me, which is above — and thought I was clear enough. But when a lot of people misunderstand you at once, the fault is usually yours. So if I was unclear: Yes, the Constitution is binding. No, it’s not clear which interpretation of the Constitution the Supreme Court will declare binding at any given moment. And no, reading the document on the floor of the House will not make the country more like you want it to be, unless your problem with the country is that you thought the Constitution should be read aloud on the floor of the House more frequently. In which case, well, you’re in luck!
Here’s the original video:
What do you think? Did Klein clarify anything?

Posted on December 30, 2010 at 11:38pmI guess the Constitution is a document in motion, very moving if you ever read it. Let’s see, born in 1984! Brave new world then, eh. What spawn is this with so much mouth and little brains. It is an easy read, written for our consumption and enduring guide to freedom. Not ambiguous, not unclear and not written by 1984 newborns now claiming to be grown up. Read it along side the communist manifesto or any other socialist declaration of philosophical values and it is even more clear. Maybe it takes and American with America’s interest at heart to really get it

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
That seems pretty easy to understand….many of the Government agencies in existence today are not authorized by the Constitution. Where does it say that Health Care and Education are the responsibility of the United States as opposed to the states or to the people.

Posted on December 31, 2010 at 10:12amDawg (lord, you can’t even spell the word DOG correctly), since when does 80 percent of the brains who are conservative become the “abnormal” brain over the 20 percent who are liberal???????? That was just about the most stupid thing study I have ever heard of! Besides, there are studies out there that show there is an abnormaility in the brains of liberals. First, liberals lack the one thing in our brains that God gave us over animals: COMMON SENSE. Animals lack the ability to reason, they act only on instinct or follow the group. Liberals are definitely unable to reason, thing for themselves, and ALWAYS follow the leader! Example: the old Liberal mantra, even after it was disproven, was continued to be used: BUSH LIED…BUSH LIED…BUSH LIED…BUSH LIED. Even though it was proven that all intelligence from all over the world pointed to the same conclusion, that SoDamnedInsane had weapons of mass distruction and that CONGRESS and President Bush relied on that intelligence, the mantra from the left was still: BUSH LIED. Completely idiotic and should have been totally embarrassing to you libs except that you lack the intelligence to know an embarrassing situation when you see one! IMPEACH!

Posted on December 30, 2010 at 9:24pmEzra Klein said:
“No, it’s not clear which interpretation of the Constitution the Supreme Court will declare binding at any given moment.”
Like I said before, since the Supreme Court takes an oath to uphold the Constitution, the Supreme Court is beholden to the Constitution, not the other way around. As such, one need only appeal to logic, language, context and the intent of the Founders, in order to interpret the Constitution.
The idea that the Supreme Court can reinterpret the Constitution to mean something other than was intended by the writers is counter-intuitive. Why take an oath, if you can simply redefine the terms?
Unalienable rights means that theh Supreme Court may not define them out of existence. Rights come from God, not from governments or the Supreme Court.

Posted on December 30, 2010 at 9:45pmThe pin-head can’t worm his way out of this one even though being a worm himself gives him an advantage. The only reason the constitution confuses Klein is not because it’s over 100, it’s because his I.Q. is substantially lower than 100. Does the moron actually believe the constitution was written in 1910 and we only had 13 states then? He’s obviously a public high-school graduate. Or at least spent 7 or 8 years trying to be.
So I guess, according to him, any part of the constitution 100 years or older should be dismissed. Sounds to me like he wants the 13th Amendment repealed so as to bring back slavery.

As for you Klein, the Constitution is more than 100 years old or maybe the year 1910 was a freudian slip seeing as that is about when the progressive movement 1st started to gain momentum to undermine the Constitution. His clarification was not necessary for me, but it did clarify it for everyone else. Except for the fact that the Constitution is over 200 years old, and much of it is not really subject to interpretation, much of it is. That is precisely why we have a Supreme Court of the United States and why so many of their opinions on Constitutional questions are 5-4. Nobody can dispute the intellect of all of the United States Supreme Court Justices and even they frequently disagree about the meaning of the Constitution. The Republicans are just engaging in publicity stunts. In the past they used to wrap themselves in the flag and say they were more patriotic than the rest of us. Now they are wrapping themselves in the Constitution and saying they are more in tune with the founding fathers.

Posted on December 31, 2010 at 5:18pmWow Dawgpound all that anger you’re carrying around! Why don’t you go live in Greece and take it out over there? We won’t miss you, don’t send a card. Haven‘t you figured out yet that we’re all entitled to our own ideas and opinions? I’m proud to be a Beck watcher, although I’m a follower of only Jesus Christ. You need to get some help for your anger issues, just a thought.

Report Post »Correct, he is a Troll and don’t feed the trolls. I find it remarkable that the lib trolls are coming in gangs to the Blaze. I think they are monitoring the Blaze more than the lib blogs they come from.
They are running scared.

Posted on January 3, 2011 at 2:12pmEveryone just ignore DoggyPooByThePound. If he wants to roll around in a pile of manure and pretend that it is rose petals, let him. Beck provides his sources, so he doesn’t need to be defended to anyone that tries to slander him. Besides, DoggyPoo is most likely a troll who lives in his mommy’s basement, blogging away. Klein is a sad commentary on the state of journalistic integrity that exists today. He attacks anything that isn’t progressive mantra, and does it in a very inept fashion.
