It appears a confusing, scary moment on live TV last night was only that and nothing more.
Serene Branson, the reporter from the local CBS affiliate in Los Angeles who became a viral video sensation after her report on the Grammy Awards last night degenerated into gibberish, is reportedly okay today.
According to CBS 2, Branson was not hospitalized after the incident, and instead was checked out by paramedics on scene:
Serene Branson was examined by paramedics on scene immediately after her broadcast. Her vital signs were normal. She was not hospitalized. As a precautionary measure, a colleague gave her a ride home and she says that she is feeling fine this morning.
Below is the video we brought you earlier this morning:
The update by the local news station does raise the question: if nothing is wrong with Branson medically, was this simply the nervous gaffe that many chuckled at when the story first broke?

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 4:32pmBells Palsy is really a symptom of something. As that, it describes paralysis on one side of the face and (though I’ve long forgotten which cranial nerve does what) DashRipRock my be right there. When you get it alone it can be from a virus or something like a stroke or a TIA. I agree with others that it looks like she is starting to have a bit of Bell’s during the clip and one eye is off. I do hope she gets checked out.

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 3:09pmIf you’re reading this Serene, which I’m sure you are not, you need to get yourself to a doctor, not a paramedic and have yourself checked out

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 3:08pmHopefully she sees a neurologist. Vital signs would of course be normal if you were having a TIA. Thats not something a paramedic can determine. A woman that young having a TIA is very concerning for a serious underlying condition.

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 2:51pmok people. I‘m glad she’s ok. but this is the result of something serious. I believe Lois Griffin said it best. “Meth is a hell of a drug.” Her employer needs to have this woman tested for drugs and look into her condition a little more. We can turn our back on a blaring flag once again or we can help the woman. Which is it? This was no mere spoonerism or choke. There is a serious problem here and looking the other way is not the answer.

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 2:48pmThere is still something wrong. Just because they didn‘t find anything at the scene doesn’t mean she was simply “scared”. She’s a professional. ….Something went wrong internally.

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 6:38pmThey really don’t have a clue whether this lady had a “stroke” or not. More then likely she probably had a TIA…which is a transient ischemic attack….a “small stroke” which will lead to a full blown stroke if not taken care of. Its a prelude to a stroke. She could have months of TIA’s and then a huge stroke, one that could be permanently disabling or even death or could have a huge stroke today or tomorrow, you just don’t know.. If she did indeed have a TIA it needs to be checked out immediately. Any paramedic or EMT worth their salt would have told her she needs to be checked out…now whether she agreed or not is another story. If she smokes and is on the “pill” for birth control that would be a contributing factor also. But I guarantee you that medical personnel on scene could not give her the “all clear”. because they don’t know! I wish her all the best and yes, I agree it looked like one side of her face was slightly drooping, which also indicates a possible TIA. God bless

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 2:47pmI dunno, without a brain scan how can they tell she did not have even a minor stroke. Watch carefully it even looks like the left side of her face is sagging a little and appears as though she is speaking out of the corner of the right side of her mouth. I pray that she is ok but if that were me I would still get a scan.

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 3:12pm*whew* That’s good news. I am glad she is okay because while initially I wanted to laugh out loud, I actually felt worried for her as a stroke is a terrible debilitating event for anyone much less a young twice Emmy-nominated reporter, and who won the Frank Shakespeare Award for Outstanding Achievement in Journalism, whose livelihood is made using her mouth. Um, for all intents and purposes of on-air journalism in front of a TV camera of course.
I guess it’s okay now to laugh out loud then. Man, how did a twice Emmy award nominated reporter get so completely befuddled and tongue tied like that anyway?

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 3:29pmI hope she goes to the hospital. I am a paramedic and I would have urged her to allow EMS to transport her to the hospital. You can have the worst stroke in the world which leaves you a vegetable and during the event your vitals can be normal. Vitals such as heart rate, blood pressure and respirations may not change before, during or after a stroke. It appeared to me that she suffered a TIA or a mini stroke. A TIA is not a small stroke it has all of the symptoms of an actual stroke however they go away quickly. The problem with a TIA is they are a always followed by an actual stroke if left untreated. I am a paramedic the best paramedic can not take her vitals and say that all is well. She needs to be evaluated by a neurologist. She appears young and strokes are not common in young people however if she is on birth control and smokes she is more likely to have a stroke even at her young age.

Posted on February 14, 2011 at 5:43pmI agree with HOME_OF_THE_BRAVE. It does appear that her face/mouth appear to sag just a bit. I too would want to have a complete scan done in a hospital and not simply at the scene.
