Over a year ago, Capt. Sully Sullenberger became a hero when he executed an emergency landing in New York’s Hudson River. This weekend, a Delta pilot* accomplished a similar feet — but this one included a physical runway without full landing gear, and a lot of sparks.
Delta flight 4951 was heading from Atlanta to White Plains, NY when the plane’s landing gear failed to fully deploy. Dramatic new video captures the emergency landing once the plane was diverted to New York’s John F. Kennedy airport:
UPDATE:
*According to the New York Daily News, the captain has been identified as 55-year-old Jack Conroyd, a retired Navy flyer from Lake Mary, FL. His co-pilot was 33-year-old Larkin Newby of Shermans Dale, PA.

Posted on September 27, 2010 at 11:39amI love the frequent flier miles question. Now that is an example of humor in the right place. Unlike Colbert’s “performance” during the hearing Friday.

Posted on September 27, 2010 at 10:14am@COFX Look at the link provided by EQUALJUSTICE. The information that was redacted was already publicly known. The book had already been reviewed by the Army and published and was ready to ship. The book was bought and burned by DIA, an executive branch agency. I cannot believe that the Obama administration would not be aware of the symbolism involved in a book burning or that DIA would have the authority to burn an entire run of an already published book without approval from the executive branch.

Posted on September 27, 2010 at 10:09amBRAVO to the crew! All travelers should pay more attention to them. When they say place your carry on items securely overhead or under the seat in front, this is a great example of why. Those items can become projectile weapons in this type of landing! Know where the exits are and how to use them. Do not be condescending or complacent, just because you travel a lot! Keep that seat belt on low and tight and place your seat and table top up and LOCKED IN PLACE for all takeoffs and landings as it could save your life or the life of someone around you. This could happen to anyone.

Posted on September 27, 2010 at 9:54amTo cofx, you have to remember thst obama placed key people in the Pentagon after he took office, so I really have trouble trusting anyone in the Pentagor or for that matter anyone in government. We can’t trust any of these people until “we the people” get officials elected that we have screened!

Posted on September 27, 2010 at 9:43amI forgot to mention – from the reports I’ve seen, this was at the request of the pentagon, not the Obama admin or Congress. I may be naive, but I tend to trust the pentagon when it comes to issues of national security.

Posted on September 27, 2010 at 9:41amFreedom, from what I understand about the book burning is that the first edition of this book contained classified information, and all first editions were recalled. It was re-edited and re-released omitting the sensitive information. This is not like book burnings of old where the actual subject of the entire book was the reason for removing them from print.
I’m all for burning of text that can put our soldiers and our country at risk. In fact, I wouldn’t be opposed if we burned Wikileaks to the ground.

Posted on September 27, 2010 at 9:32amThat was my reaction to this news also. Claiming it was to protect State Secrets when this “Government Stupid” is about giving them away and controlling “Freedom Of Speech”
Definition of OLIGARCHY
1: government by the few
2: a government in which a small group exercises control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes; also : a group exercising such control
3: an organization under oligarchic control
