Update: Northwestern Drops Controversial ‘Sexuality’ Curriculum

Bad news for students who enjoyed the unorthodox “human sexuality” presentations from Northwestern University Prof. John Michael Bailey — no more extra-circular sex demonstrations.

As we reported in March, Professor Bailey came under fire for taking about 120 students on a field trip to observe a naked woman experimenting with motorized sex toys on stage.

At the time, university president Morton Shapiro said he was “troubled and disappointed” and vowed to conduct a full investigation. Now, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, Northwestern is dropping the sexuality class from its psychology department’s curriculum:

“I did not make the decision,” [university chairman Dan] McAdams said. “It was made by the central administration, either the president or the provost.”

McAdams said the administration doesn’t typically choose which classes are offered, but the human sexuality class was a “pretty extraordinary case.”

After asking about the class’s future, he received an e-mail from the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences informing him not to offer it next semester.

Northwestern spokesman Alan Cubbage issued a written statement on the class but declined to answer questions.

“Courses in human sexuality are offered in a variety of academic departments in other universities, and Northwestern is reviewing how such a course best fits into the university’s curriculum,” Cubbage said in a statement. “At Northwestern University, the dean of a college/school has the right and responsibility to determine course assignments.”

Meanwhile, Prof. Bailey remains on the university’s payroll and continues to teach classes in statistics and psychopathology.

professors should be required to strip naked and insert motorized toys into their own orifices for such classes

The education bubble will be the next one to burst. It’s not difficult to figure out why this course even existed in the first place. Most student loans are from the government, the same way most home loans are from Fanny and Freddie. The difference with student loans is that they’re GUARANTEED! Student loans cannot be dismissed in bankruptcy. They have to be paid back.

The government gives out loans much easier than any private bank would. So, you have a lot of kids getting student loans that really shouldn’t even be in college. Colleges, in turn, jack up tuition prices knowing that government has to issue loans because the Barney Franks of the world are making them. Then, you get college professors like this guy who can teach whatever they want. No one has any responsibility.

The students come away with huge loans to pay back without the equivalent educational value. After all they’ve been watching live porn for their curriculum. They get into the real world and realize that their Dance Therapy or Carbon Credits degree isn’t worth anything; but they still have to pay back the loans. The price of education keep going up because the colleges know the government is handing out money. The value of education keeps going down because they’re taking porn classes.

Education is the next big bubble that will burst.

Another “great” thing to come out of Chicago? Of course the teacher has to think he was doing a great public service. The thing is, it just seems one more illustration of how Chicago knows all about how to “take care of” the public. First they give us our president and now they teach the kids about porn. Doesn’t anyone see a similarity besides me?

  @StevenL1955 – Having the Lord take us home is ok & it will eventually happen but I don‘t think it’s time yet. We haven’t had the complete lesson yet. I‘m thinking it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better or before any of us take the final trip home.
  In 56 years of living on this rock I never in my wildest dreams imagined life would be as it is. How the heck did things end up backward / opposite?? Smart is not cool… stoopid is cool, wrong is right & right is totally wrong. Schools educate the common sense out of kids.

real men and women don’t need porn, man,if my grand mother knew i was studying live porn in school, she would have beat the tar out of me and the teacher,not to mention the perverts. where were the parents of these kids. can’t believe the professor { i sorry perverted sex crazed moron } still has a job.

  I would question Northwestern’s system of choosing classes to offer in the first place. Why didn’t they screen what this progressive professor was going to teach before he actually did it? The department chairmen should be aware of what is going on under their noses. Or is it a case of Northwestern okaying garbage like this, but this time they were caught? Either way, the university needs to raise the bar.
