John Stone was fired for wearing his Packers team tie to the Chicago-area car dealership where he worked on Monday. His employer said Stone was “salting the wounds” of Bears fans who lost to the Packers on Sunday. Well, it didn’t take long for Stone (who sold a respectable 14 cars in a month-and-a-half of work) to get a new gig:

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 5:32pmI had a run-in with the manager at Webb Chevrolet. The owner is a young woman who was given the dealership as a wedding gift. The manager is her husband. The guy’s an idiot. I ended up getting into a shouting match with him in the showroom in front of other customers because he wanted to charge me for services never rendered. I had to pay just to get my car back.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 9:35amI‘m guess I’m naive when it comes to sports that people would be so offended by a certain sports team that it would infer with their financial decisions. I never knew that sports fans would be that offended that they would go to a different place to do business if a sales person had on other team’s sports attire. I guess the general manager really thinks that all people are like the guy in the movie “The Fan”

If lived in Chicago, was a Packers Fan and wanted to buy a Chevy, I wouldn’t buy from anyone else.
Good luck in your new job!

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 4:48amIt would have been better if Mr. Stone went to a Ford dealership instead of the same old Government and obama owned GM products. GO FREE ENTERPRISE.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 12:19pmI think it is interesting that the car dealership had a promotional contract deal with the Cubs in the first place. Also that they didn’t explain that to Mr. Stone.
All the Cubs fans will flock to that dealership and others will go to Homewood, so it will settle down, but I’d have some questions about the management judgment of the first dealership.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 4:15pmI am a retired retail automotive executive (General Manager and General Sales Manager). At one time, I consulted for Ford and General Motors to their retail dealerships.
The out of control egos of many dealership managers is well known within the business. I can envision how this went down. The salesperson is shown little respect by many managers, as they feel they can always replace him or her. Well run dealerships don’t think or act this way. Many that have are no longer in business.
Will this negative publicity have an effect on the dealership? Most definitely. Not only was the salesman’s performance above average, I bet there are a lot of Packer fans that now know where not to go for their next vehicle. That is not to mention potential customers that will equate the way they treat their employees will also be the way they treat their customers.
A good car salesperson has probably the best job security in the country…he can go anywhere and make a living.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 7:09amSergioQ; I guess you never had the fun of playing the game in college or pros. It is a blast when you do, knowing that there are very few people that can compete at that level.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 3:01pmdont get me wrong “HISTORYGUY48” ,and being a active male since my youth football & other sports/games were & are fun & indeed challenging (& no , I do not nor ever had the skillz to compete at Pro levels)
Report Post »but my point (other than Cheerleaders are a good thing ;-) ,is that our sosciety has placed sports/jocks on a golden seat of worship & yet dismiss or simply gander at things worthy or in need of our attention far more than idolizing a “game” team or athelete.
..many of our communitys & individual citizens are suffering a lack in finances yet shell out ginormous amounts of ca$hola in support & honor of the “games” …&/or drill stats & trinkets into our lives.
firen a guy over a tie??? ,REALLY!! ,its like he cant have an opinion or choice in what silly@$$ team ta cheer on without risking his job …It might have helped make a sale to some likeminded potential buyer or inspired a fan of the opposing team ta razz or hiss him thus opening a door to truly test his salesmenship skillz …granted some hardhead might have been offended and -ready for this pondery?- ..gone to one of the other salesmen there with the right tie on n made a purchas ~partially on the grounds of making a point(?)~. **WAH-LAH** the cash regester rings & thats what the boss should have been thinking.
(what about potential buyers that might be offended by “salting the wound” ,had the Bears won???)

So if you create a group with victims and terrorists as members… you create a vaccuum or an energy that PROPELS the victims to the security. If Securtiy is America, and Terrorism is Al-Quida, or the Talaban, or any foe, if the victims are in buisiness with the Terrorists, then Security- (America) will be rushed with “victims” in buisiness with terrorists. – Troy Garrett
