Update: Veterans Protest For ‘God’ At Houston V.A. Cemetery

Update: Veterans Protest For God At Houston V.A. Cemetery

Last week The Blaze reported on the alleged attack on free speech by Arleen Ocascio, the Houston-based director of the local Veteran’s Administration cemetery accused of censoring “God” and “Jesus.” Since that initial report, calls for Ms. Ocascio’s dismissal or resignation have increased in volume and number. Yesterday, hundreds gathered at that same Houston cemetery to honor America’s war dead, while protesting the actions of the cemetery’s director.

Blaze affiliate KTRH News Talk 740 was on the scene and filed this video report:

Actually, my Polk County status is a joke “Tribute” to James K. Polk Tuesday. And if you don’t know what that is, your not suppose to know.

Judging my intellectual capability based on my location is very absurd.
I never called you religious people dumb. Nope. Just brainwashed. Smart people can be brainwashed, too.

And I am not a mission to convert or “save” anyone. I just find stories like this comical. If you really believed God is all powerful, you would not need “rallies” like this. If God disapproved of this lady’s actions, he would do something about it. But he doesn’t… do you want to know why? Because God only exist in your IMAGINATION. He is your imaginary friend.

      Aaron,

God did do something about this, his power lies within us. It is up to us to use it. Our choice. It is about time we stood up and allowed God’s power to shine through. It is clear your choice is to not use it or deny it rather.

Policy reflects on leadership that is all I am saying. The call for this woman’s resignation is valid and probably a good starting point, we have to keep in mind that this problem could very well be initiated from further up the food chain. Such as at the very top of the food chain, say the administration. My Veteran’s Administration source saw the initial post and just rolled his eyes and said “took them (the conservative media) long enough (to figure this out).” I say that the Blaze reporters need to dig deeper, check into other cemeteries and expose this corruption if indeed this is an administration down policy or if it is just being allowed to grow bigger due to this administration’s ideals and worldviews.

Well said, 50BMG. She also has no right to prohibit FREE SPEECH! Usage of the names “God” and “Jesus” seem to be OK when used in profanity, but not in prayer?!?

    Give me a break!

Heh! And I agree. God can defend Himself–but He expects His children to be brave and courageous–to contend for their faith–and to stand up for it! And that is JUST what these people–in AMERICA–where it is still very much permitted to do so!

So to you there in Virginia–keep the faith! Keep strong! I’m proud of you and I am sure God is also pleased. :-)

Aaron in Polk County, it must be horrible to go through life with such hate in your heart for some of your fellow man, and with no hope in your heart for a life after this one. As a Christian, I try my best to live as Christ taught. I try not to harbor hate for anyone (boy, that gets really hard and takes a lot of prayer when it comes to what Obama is doing to this country), and I try not to make fun of others who are different or believe different from me. Therefore, I will pray for you even though you obviously hold disdain for Christians and love to poke fun at God, Jesus and Christians. Remember: I would much rather believe and be wrong, than to not believe and be wrong! If you have any decency in you, I pray that you will refrain from making fun of other people’s religion and I will try really hard not to make fun of your idiocy!

I am surprised that she is still the director of the cemetery. What “Ms Political Correctness Liberal” seems to forget is that the funeral services there are to honor the deceased. If that individual has expressed a desire or his family desire a religious ceremony then their wishes should be honored. For her to demand that all funeral services be pre-approved by her office is a disgrace. By the way, if you look at the headstones of the graves the majority of them have Crosses on them. Someone should inform her that the cross is not there as a “X marks the spot” decal.

As far as this city being progressive, your right, the most part are progressing down the highway to Hell, hence the overwhelming abundance of liars, sorry lawyers, sorry again, liars that profit from the populace here. It is up to those who have been silent and not participated in the local political scene to become active and vocal like this group. As with most urban areas, there is a higher population of gays and less educated minorities who tend to vote for Democrats. Most attendees at the veterans protest were from the suburbs or surrounding Conservative towns.
