A wing of an Airbus A380, the world’s biggest commercial passenger jet, clipped the tail of another plane while taxiing out to depart John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday night.
There were no injuries when the Air France super jumbo jet touched the other plane at 8:09 p.m., Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters said.
Air France Flight 7, bound for Paris, was taxiing on a runway when its left wingtip struck the tail of Comair Flight 6293, which had just landed from Boston and was taxiing to its gate at Kennedy, one of the nation’s busiest airports, Peters said.
Both jets were being towed to a ramp area for inspection, Peters said. The extent of the damage was unknown.

They make you take an oath when you go in [Support and defend the Constitution of the United States]
but when you get out, they don’t undo or backtrack it. It stays in effect!
I’m still under that oath! If I did NOT support and defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC, I would be guilty of treason! Can’t be doing that now, can we?

Posted on April 12, 2011 at 12:16pm@ MAULEMALL,
Spoken like someone who has no clue about flying. This is completely the fault of the Air France pilot. A pilot will not follow ATC (or in this case ground/tower control) if they feel it will place the aircraft in danger. ATC is there to help aircraft when they cannot see. If a pilot cannot see to taxi safely, then he should not be taxiing. Finally, the pilot-in-command is THE final authority on a flight and is responsible for EVERYTHING that happens. The entire flight crew will probably have their flight privileges suspended or revoked; at least their Air Transport ratings.
Runway incursions have been a major problem at airports for years and the FAA has been trying for nearly 10 years to raise awareness. The A-380 has a much larger wingspan than even a 747. The pilot, who had the last clear chance to avoid a collision, clearly steered the plane in a manner that resulted in a collision. This is the Air France pilot’s fault.
I hope no one on the ComAir fligh was seriously injured, though that seems unlikely.

Report Post »mrsmileyface
Posted on April 12, 2011 at 12:55pmAircraft flying over the Atlantic have no ATC to guide them. They must have all the proper modern navigation equipment. They fly at around 35k-50k depending on what kind of aircraft it is. Also every plane must keep a 60 mile distance from each other. And report altitude airspeed and location every 10 min to destination ATC ( so no napping on the job or someone will know). Once the aircraft is in radar range ( which is about 60-100 mi) ATC take the plane from there and guides it into final aproach and finally landing. Once landed another ATC personell takes the plane and guides it to the gate. So the failure here is the secondary ground ATC person.

Posted on April 12, 2011 at 7:36pmThe wing tip is about 165 feet from the nose of the plane and it took almost 4.5 seconds after the nose passed the tail of the Comair. That means the A-380 was moving at about 24 MPH.
