Update: Woman to be Charged With Sending ‘You Will Die!!!!’ E-Mail to Wis. Sens

It was one of the most shocking statements to come out of the Wisconsin budget battle. An e-mail, sent to 15 Republican state senators, promising to kill them and their families by putting a “bullet in your head” and using “several bombs.” Now, someone stands to be charged with multiple felonies in the incident. But there’s a question swirling: what took so long?

(Read our original report and the e-mail.)

Today, some are questioning the way the Dane County district attorney and local law enforcement handled the case. According to WISN-TV, the Wisconsin Justice Department became concerned at how long it took local officials to file charges. The state DOJ expressed that sentiment in a statement obtained by local talk show host Charlie Sykes, which says it was “concerned about the lack of action regarding this referral,” meaning it referred the case to the local DA and is surprised nothing has come about.

District Attorney Ismael Ozanne — the DA for the county that includes Madison — defended the delay on Thursday, saying, “The person was not placed in custody. So at some point, law enforcement did not see the person as an imminent threat immediately.”

The “person,” 26-year-old Katherine R. Windels, who was not seen as an “imminent threat” sent two death-threat e-mails to Republicans, both on March 9. The first one was a single message to Sen. Robert Cowles, the second was sent to the 15 others with the subject, “Atten: Death Threat!!!! Bomb!!!” and the first line including the phrase, “you will be killed and your familes will also be killed.”

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel provides more details, including the startling nugget that Windels has still not been arrested as of Thursday night:

According to the criminal complaint, Windels told investigators “I sent out emails that I was
disgusted and very upset by what they were doing.”

Asked if she intended to follow through on any of her threats, Windels told the investigators “No,” according to the complaint.

Windels was charged with two felony counts “bomb scare” and two misdemeanor counts of “computer message-threatening injury/bodily harm.” If convicted, each felony count carries a maximum penalty of three years and six months in prison and a $10,000 fine, and each misdemeanor count carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in prison and a $1,000 fine.

WKOW-TV reported Windels was not in custody. She was expected to be served Friday with her first court appearance in late April, according to the station’s website.

You can read the complaint here, which includes Windels’s apparent confession.

Some have charged Windels is an early childhood education teacher, but that has not been confirmed.

Ozanne is the same DA that sued after Wisconsin’s new labor law passed.

Didn’t we just go threw the Gifford case? And they don’t want to take this seriously? If that would have been a republican which had said that to the democrats, they would have been stung up by a yard arm in the back lawn with every news source in the free nation there to cheer them on

If she was anything other than an obvious flake then you would have a point. But there were no bomb materials found, I doubt she owns a gun, she probably has a clean record…She screwed up. It was silly stupid, she is a moron, she needs to be fired from the teaching job…But she is no hardened criminal. They would eat her alive in jail. She is a spoiled little brat that needs slapped on the wrist. Hopefully she will learn her lesson.

While I understand the argument for leniency, I wholeheartedly disagree. It would be one thing if it was the typical “you suck and I hope you die” kind of email that these legislators probably get by the thousands. But when you’re making very specific and very reprehensible threats against a public official and their families, you should go to jail. We, as a society, need to be perfectly clear that there’s lines that should not be crossed and behavior that will not be tolerated.

I don’t necessarily think that she should be tossed behind bars for the maximum term, but she should do time. To let her off with a slap on the wrist is sending a message that it’s really ok to send death threats to public officials. Well we should NOT be ok with that. I think she should do at least a year in prison.

A strong message needs to be sent here that we will NOT tolerate people issuing death threats against public officials when they do something you don’t like. To do anything else amounts to tacit approval of the kind of bullying tactics that have become the modus operandi of the left. Well I, for one, do NOT approve of these tactics, nor should any of us. She may be a perfectly nice person who did something really stupid, but even stupid has consequences. It‘s time for her to suffer her’s. Send her to prison.

If she is indeed a teacher, I hope the parents of the children she teaches rise up & demand she be fired. I wouldn’t want someone like that, who threatens to kill someone when they get “frustrated” teaching a group of children, who often are frustrating. What if she “snaps” & hurts one of her children? She’s already set the precedent for being unable to mange her anger. Just an obeservation.

That should be the penalty for this. She has no common sense, and she got caught up in the feeding frenzy. I think they should scare the hell out of her and maybe fine her but I think jail time may be over the top. Though it would not hurt my feelings either…

But she should definitely not be allowed to teach, she has shown she has no discernment between right and wrong, no common sense, and no regard for the rights of others. She may be young and ideological, but she is unfit to teach kids.

      @Goldmember

Please learn the true meaning of a word before using it in a sentence.

      Anarchy :
The absence of all direct or coercive government as a political ideal and that proposes the cooperative and voluntary association of individuals and groups as the principal mode of organized society. Circa 1530-40.

      All other descriptions/definitions such as:
      Chaos
      Lawless
      Disorder….. blah blah blah….

Those descriptions/definitions were in fact added to the word hundreds of years after the trem was coined, and were added by Governments, Tyrants, Dictators, Communists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, you know, the worthless of man-kind……. in an attepmt to “scare” people into obeying their edicts. You have been brainwashed into believeing that the term describes -> “dangerous” or “chaotic” or “disorderly”…. When in actual FACT the word means nothing more than self rule, control, governance…. The right to decide for yourself how to live, what to believe, where to live, what to do ……. That is what Anarchy means not what you have been led to think/believe. And if you take the time to invetigate/reaserch America’s real history, you will find that is how this country started out, as an Anarchal style of system. If you didn’t fit into a certain community, you could/would move somewhere that suited you and your beliefs…

For better or worse, our founding fathers decided to create a central government and based it upon the ability of all those Anarchal communities to have representation, and hence the Repulic of the United States. To this day, each and every state has both the right and ability to tell the federal government to quite simply F.O…. <- and for the really clueless, this very reason was the cause of the first shots and battles fought in our own "Civil War" … not over slavery, that came 2 years AFTER the war had started…. but over States Rights and the people living within thos states. The Civil War was the "birth" of "Federalism" and the real start of the end of freedom in America.

As to that worthless pig(s) that threatened the the lives and families of the representatives that actually did the job they were hired to do, the actions they threatened to employ upon those decent people, doing their jobs, should in fact be used upon her and all those that associated with her…

WOW, sorry fer being so long winded… LOL

Thanx, and have a nice day.

(One might ask why Sheriff Dubnik isn’t facing charges.) If Laughner had been charged with a felony, he would not have been able to easily get a gun. (Felons can’t buy guns.) The next time this young lady gets pissed, she can buy a gun and really get the worlds attention.

The same people who are happy to take legal action against a child for pointing their finger & thumb in a “gun-like manner” are OK with terroristic threats that include murder and bomb threats by an adult? I wonder how long somebody would walk free if they sent the same threats to Ozanne or any of the Democrats.

I think it’s about time the PATRIOT Act and RICO laws were used against these Progressive politicians and the Soros-funded domestic terror groups they associate with. The Democratic Party, if it were in another country, would be listed by the USA as an organized criminal terrorist group. I think a cell in Gitmo would be perfect for Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Stearn, Trumka, Sunstein, Schumer, Dean, and Soros. They can play “drop the soap” with KSM in the prison shower. He’s been lonely.

They need to start cleaning house during these demonstrations and supplement the law enforcement budget – that would create some new jobs. And as for this parasite who feels it is okay to threaten people with death, I hope she will never come in contact with children again.

This man got 21 months for threatening Pelosi during healthcare mess, the FBI went after him and said they take a threat on Officials very seriously. I found this cliip but read several more on him. I guess Pelosi’s life is worth more than the 15 Republican Senators in Wisconsin. I think they arrested others but I got tired of looking. Maybe someone can find out the way they treated the Republcans vs. The way this lady is being treated http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/16/gregory-lee-giusti-pleads-guilty-pelosi-threats_n_720158. She keeps refernecing ‘WE’ in her threat letters. This is grounds to investigate cor possible accomplices and conspiracy.

It won’t surprise me if we find out someday that she is the passive part of a group of lefties with true violent intent.

I am upset with Obama, Pelosi, Reid and others in our government but I do not threaten them with violence. To do so is to commit an act of terrorism, a federal offense! However, I guess that a democrat who does these things can be forgiven for “being angry” and their actions overlooked! Because I am a registered Republican I would have been besieged by the FBI, Secret Service, the state DEA and local law enforcement and would spend the next twenty years converting large rocks into gravel. No matter the reasoning or her beliefs, this young lady threatened State Government officials with acts of violence and admitted it. She should not get away with it. If she does, then the laws have no meaning and our country becomes a lawless soceity.

“charge her, sentence her and let her spend time in JAIL….”

I hope her sentences are the maximum, and run consecutively, for a total of 8 years behind bars and $22,000 in fines.

Looks like the Wisconsin DA is just following the example of Attorney General Holder. Pick and choose who gets prosecuted based on their political ideology. See what happens when you have really, really bad role models?

Does this DA let people off the hook if they claim they were just having a bad day when they threatened to kill people?

I wonder how quickly he would have arrested her if that email had been directed at Holder instead of Repub senators.

Remember our courts, lawyers and judicial system employees are embedded with criminal progressives and liberals. Instead of looking at the facts they are using their beliefs and emotions to make decisions which is illegal. If this woman threatened any of the peoples lives involved in getting her in jail they would have been calling the sky is falling. Just goes to show what our country has become.

Not only did you MCPBOB, omit the trial process, several other commenters just blindly agreed. Interesting. Threats of violence, and violence (Shawna Forde, recently sentenced to death in AZ) is inexcusable from either side. To imply that it comes from JUST one side is ignoring the facts: http://www.examiner.com/progressive-in-tampa-bay/tea-party-anger-boils-over-into-threats-and-violence-democrats-the-target-part-1-the-causes
