Update w/Video: Houston VA Cemetery Censors God & Jesus From Funerals

Earlier today The Blaze covered a breaking story out of Houston, where three different veterans groups have filed suit against the Veterans Administration, alleging a First Amendment violation when the VA censored the memorial services at the Houston National Cemetery by prohibiting words like ‘God’ and ‘Jesus’ from being spoken during funerals.

Arleen Ocascio, the director of the VA cemetery in Houston who told groups that they cannot use specific religious language on the property, has been offered the opportunity to respond to this story and has not yet returned our calls. Ms. Ocascio has informed other media outlets that she cannot comment on any issue currently being litigated. In the meantime, calls for Ocascio’s resignation or termination are building.

Perhaps the most emotional coverage on this story was seen on the Fox News Channel when Gretchen Carlson interviewed Marilyn Koepp, Secretary of the National Memorial Ladies. Marilyn’s organization is a volunteer group that attends every single funeral at this cemetery and was told by Arleen Ocascio that they could not mention God and all of their ceremonies needed to be pre-approved.

This is the real problem. The woman in this video says she hopes a judge grants them permission to say God Bless You and Jesus. This video is very telling of the cowardice Americans show. What you do is tell the person who said you can’t say God to go screw themselves. You say God Bless You every chance you get and more at these funerals. And if they come to arrest you you resist. What happened to our courage. Why do we wait for a judge to tell us what we know is our right to say.FREEDOM OF SPEECH.If the federal government said tomorrow that people can’t pray in public or they would be arrested I bet the coward citizens of this nation would obey.Your all a bunch of sheep. The minute people are faced with arrest for standing up for our rights they turn into cowards.

This pathetic video makes me embarrased to be an Americam. How far we have come from what out founders gave their lives for.Families gave up everything for the cause. But hey as long as I’m living large and comfortable big brother can tell me what to do.
I’v put my email up on this website but no one has responded. We are being told what we can and cannot say.2 weeks ago it was they couldn’t say God at a Texas High School graduation, and now this.
I’m calling for decent,Constitutional Americans to think about forming a militia.I will post it again here. They are telling us what we can say now,it’s only a matter of time before they tell us what to think and do.I’d rather die.In the future I will post a telephone nu

Christians need to feel persecuted. Its part of their dogma.

Matthew 5:11-12 (this is Jesus talking)

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
      ——————-

If this kind of groveling and moaning appeals to you then so it does. But if you want to say something at a funeral, or anywhere else, THEN JUST SAY IT and to hell with any decree or decorum that says otherwise.

But, sticking to the Bible, if you REALLY believe in and worship this Jesus guy, then this should thrill and delight you. You are being persecuted and insulted as Jesus said. So shut up and take it and wait to die where you can be rewarded like the prophet who went before you.

Ah, but their faith isn’t really that deep or true. Christians REALLY want power in the material world and not in the hereafter.

Thus, exposing the falsehood of the entire religion.

      cheers

Christians don’t feel the need to be persecuted, Butcher, but it’s not unexpected, either.

The fact that an atheist is trying to ban God from other peoples’ religious ceremonies (funerals) says everything you need to know about modern militant atheism.

Doesn’t she realize that the survivors, family of the veterans buried at the cemetery, hold religious services to pray for the souls of their decedents. Her actions are bringing untold pain to these families. She needs to be removed from her position or fired immediately.

No, the veterans that are interred there earned the right to that plot, some in ways I hope no one ever has to experience. The administrator has no right to “approve” the use of the words “God” or “Jesus”. That’s not her decision. Her job is to provide a suitable burial plot, not dictate what should and should not be said. The funeral and interment ceremonies are at the discretion of the family, not some petty bureaucrat who is throwing her weight around.

Yes the heros deserve to rest in peace. However, it is not the cemetary that gives the soldier honor. The cemetary has honor for the soldiers buried there. A cemetary that forbids God is no longer worthy of such honor. Start digging and show this government evil will not be tolerated. Show some pride . This is worse than having Westboro baptist hired to dig graves. Turn this place into the Evans City Cemetary. Thats what Obama wants…to break down this country into some Night of the Living Dead horror show of flash mobs and civil unrest. Give him his nightmare on our terms. Turn it back on Obama and be the ones who raise the dead… that they may never know a peaceful nights sleep for what they have done to this country. … http://youtu.be/1SENHMmum7s

I am a veteran. Does this mean that should I die and my family ask for a religious ceremony if I were buried at this national cemetery it would not be permitted? I don‘t understand why whether or not to have a religious ceremony is not left up to the veteran’s family. I guess that political correctness once again over rides the veteran being honored.

No – not as I understood the other article on The Blaze earlier today – plus on this one note:
“they could not mention God and all of their ceremonies needed to be pre-approved.”
It was written in a way that it is easy to miss that and take it like you did – I did too. But no – all they have to do is put in a written request for a Christian service.

I strongly object to the word “pre-approved”. No, the Veteran’s Administration has NO BUSINESS approving or disapproving religious graveside services. That’s not their job at the cemetery. Their job is to provide a place for a veteran burial.

Why should they have to request a Christian service specifically? Why not just have a check list that says, please indicate the type of service you wish: Christian, Jewish, Mormon, non-religious etc.?

As I understand it, the family CAN have a Christian service if requested beforehand, according to the first story on the Blaze earlier today. That’s all – instead of being “automatic” for ALL, you have to request it on paper. It’s not that it will be denied. This was written poorly in my opinion. But, no, it isn’t unconstitutional as they claimed- nothing to do with separation of church and state; however, the sad reality is there are probably some soldiers that were not Christians & would bother their families. What needs to be explained loudly is the truth about “separation of church and state” nonsense & all cases fought that claim it wrongly. It used to be that this wasn’t an issue but our “rebelliousness to God” has increased and become more bold and want to make an issue of it so here we are.

So what will the VA do if they say a prayer or mention God? Throw them in jail? Christians in the long ago past would have prayed anyway and took whatever they dish out.

      Hail Hitler!

Hitler didn’t criminalize Christianity. Lenin Stalin and Mao did.

Mike you sure are very selective in what you allow to be posted.. We can talk about killing muslims all day long till the sun goes down but the mere mention of the precious little jew brings out your cencorship?? You’re a joke.

They would just have to lock me up for praying. Last time I looked the 1 amendment was still a part of our constitution. Is free speech only for secular people or islam.

Lets out source the judges job. Talk about hate speech could it get any more ugly than to stop a prayer to a LOVING all POWERFUL GOD for a person who died defending our freedoms. Thats treason.

THANK YOU BLAZE for spotlighting this: I went to this web site and have been calling Congress people. I tried to call the woman in Question but no answer. http://www.ktrh.com/pages/michaelberry.html very helpful website with all the phone numbers you would need.

My point is that we can keep tearing each other apart or we can try to find ‘common ground’ to work together on. That the left has totally taken the “SEPARATION between Church and State WAY TOO FAR and they are totally WRONG about what they say…it is, in fact, the OPPOSITE of what they try to claim” and finally that: HERE we are BURYING MEN and WOMEN who cared enough about our GOD, our COUNTRY and our FREEDOM to go and DIE for it… WE simply must stop this maddness.

I hope that everyone reading this will take a moment and go to this web site and call SOMEONE and tell them that THIS cannot go on. It’s one thing to be on here preaching to approximately the choir but what we need to do is check in, see what the “news” is and then take action. BLAZE is a great resource and will become more and more essential as this election draws closer and until we get that Demonic Communist out of the WHITE HOUSE, but action is needed and needed now!
      Again: http://www.ktrh.com/pages/michaelberry.html

I doesn’t matter if the “policy” allows for requests in writing. Let this kind of stuff stand and, in less time than you would want to admit, those requests will just be denied. It is time for Civil disobedience to become the rule of the day. They can’t put 60%+ of the country in jail can they? Matters not if they can we must stand for what is right,

Athiests take this kind of job so that they can force their beliefs on others… but they can only force you if you allow them to. I would simply ignore the blitch…. kind of like the “court orders” to not pray or mention God or Jesus the Christ at sporting events, graduations, etc. … IGNORE THEM! BE BELIGERANT! STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS AND YOUR GOD!

Are you a Christian? If you “say” you are, think about this.
      Matt 10:33
33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
      (KJV)

If you meekly allow the athiests to cause you to deny Jesus, then you should expect to see the athiest in the Lake of Fire, because you will surely be there. You say that you don’t believe in God, I DON’T CARE!
