US Intel Chief: Iran Ready to Strike America In Terror Attacks

The U.S. intelligence community believes that Iran is prepared to launch terrorist attacks inside the United States in response to perceived threats from America and its allies, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told the Senate Tuesday morning in an open hearing.

US Intel Chief: Iran Ready to Strike America In Terror Attacks

In prepared testimony given to the U.S. Select Committee on Intelligence, Clapper stated than an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador to the United States shows a shift in Tehran’s strategy towards a willingness to plot and conduct attacks within the U.S.

Director Clapper said, according to the Washington Post, that Iran’s disrupted alleged assassination plot:

“shows that some Iranian officials — probably including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei — have changed their calculus and are now more willing to conduct an attack in the United States in response to real or perceived U.S. actions that threaten the regime.”

Clapper added that “We are also concerned about Iranian plotting against U.S. or allied interests overseas.”

The spy chief’s concerns come amidst increased saber rattling from Iran with regard to the Strait of Hormuz, and tightening U.S. sanctions aimed at curbing the Iranian nuclear program.

Clapper’s testimony regarding the threat from Iran was delivered as part of the U.S. intelligence community’s annual overview of the primary national security challenges facing the United States. His testimony also singled out cyber-related threats, and the weakened but persistent threat Al Qaeda and its affiliates pose to the U.S.

Israel doesn‘t need to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities. The just need to drop a few bombs on the mass troop gatherings that we see in Iran for show. Wiping out their troops will allow the anti gov’t faction to take over.Wipe out 100k troops in a single blow will make Iran more vulnerable than any sanctions would.

Basically the intel chief is saying We expect blowback from Iran due to tightening sanctions. We have provoked Iran enough thru sanctions Iran is now reacting, as intended, unfortunately it’s in the form of violence against the US.

Sanctions is nothing more than provoking another nation to war. Our sanctions and further sanctioning Iran will CAUSE more blowback against the US from Iran.

Progressive foreign policy is insane and irresponsible. We will attack Iran if they cut our oil off by shutting Hormuz (Sanctions) but we wonder why they are angry we cut off supplies and business to them (sanctions)…..

This is why Buck Sexton should interview Michael Scheuer on GBTV over Iran’s threat or not and US foreign policy.

I have to agree with you, Iran needs to understand that any terror attack by them or their allied terror brothers will be regarded as usage of WMD’s and the appropriate response will be involved.

      Absolute and final response.

Its still fascinating that we have hosted the dictator of Yemen for several days now according to Voice to America radio show Sunday afternoon, and almost nothing is in the news.

Are you a religious nut that wants to fulfill a biblical apocalyptic prophecy of the end of the world, an Israel supporter that wants America to fight yet another Jewish war for them, or just a regular nut that likes to see lots of people killed? What on Earth would make any sane man think that Iran would give up a nuclear threat by using it? Do you really believe the propaganda that you are fed daily about how insane the Iranian people are that they want to end the world?

In 1941 we stopped oil & iron exports to Japan in large part due to their continuing invasion of China. I see you point though. We should have continued to feed Tojo’s war machine. They would not have become bigger & more aggressive.

According to you, it‘s always everyone else’s fault. Which is being responsible, understanding ALL actions have consequences or pointing the finger somewhere else in blame?

Sanctions is considered provocation to war in war strategy. To say otherwise is simply ignorance.

Of course you are one who will preach down to Persian Muslim Iran and then support sending our tax dollars, weapons, and troops to Arab Muslim Pakistan or Saudi Arabia who are exactly the same as Iran thru Islam.

      @WalkAbout

I‘m not saying sanctions shouldn’t be part of foreign policy or war policy. We should understand that if sanctions are used they will cause a reaction, whether stopping nuclear pursuit or retaliation, and that is the intent. Sanctions are tools of WAR and to war so we should no be surprised when using such tools we are attacked for it as it’s one of two possible outcomes.

You think US sanctions on Japan caused them to attack US?

Sanctions could be argued as a declaration of war. Are we at war with Iran?

the Islamic Republic of Iran is ruled by clerics and devout Shi’ites who hate the West and is driven by an apocalyptic branch of Islam that believes its duty is to begin world war that brings the return of their Mahdi (messiah)—an Imam so powerful he will bring the world under Islamic rule. Sanctions either cause Pearl Harbor or were the last straw. The Japanese may have attacked the U.S. anyway once they digested China.

Sanctions could be argued as a declaration of war. Are we at war with Iran?

Yes,Sanction could be considered an act of war. If so the slapping on retaliatory tariffs in the case of duping could be considered something very close to war too.

It seems to me that if sanctions are an act of war then the only tool we have left is not to engage in in new business because withdrawing business would seen as an act of war. Might as well not have a State Department except to glad hand people & pat them on the back.

Nice. We kick Saddam out of Kuwait with the blessing & cooperation of the ARAB LEAGUE in 1991 & we get declared war on in 1996.

      - Maybe it was because we paid the Saudis more for their oil than the British paid for Iranian Oil.
      - Maybe we allowed the Saudis to buy out the American part of ARAMCO.
      - Maybe it is because American expats don’t live segregate but they live next door to Saudis & the women sunbathe nude on the front lawn.

-Maybe it was the regime change that we effected in Egypt from 1945 thru today. We hand picked Gamal Nasser (Egyptian Revolutionary Command Council), Anwar Sadat (National Democratic Party) & Hosni Mubarak (National Democratic Party ). You know everyone of those leaders were stool pigeons for America.

So basically, you are blaming the US for Pearl Harbor?

Nobody can say what Japan would do, we only know what they did.

Sanctions are an act of war. The purpose of sanctions is to FORCE the sanctioned country into compliance or reaction by attacking the stronger sanctioning country.

Using sanctions to strong arm other countries is reckless and irresponsible, especially if we turn around and say the reaction to sanctions is not our fault when in reality the reaction was the whole point of the sanctions.

If Iran is such a threat, declare war and wage one to win. Until then, mind American business and quit provoking them to turn around and blame them for reacting.

If Iran and Saudi Arabia teamed up for the cause of Islam and sanctioned US on oil, would we take those sanctions as an act of war and probably attack them? YES, so we should expect the Iranians to respond the same.

being straight forward & calling an ace an ace? I like it. We don’t have that type of Congress.

Sanctions should be part of the tool kit. If you get rid of too many tools than all you have is a tool kit with only one toll, usually a hammer.

I guess what we should do is use game theory, history & see how often sanctions got what you wanted percentage wise.

I am not always for sanctions. For example sanctions against Cuba. Sanctions can work but of there are tow many leaks than the opposition becomes resilient to increasing degrees of pressure. In Cuba’s case since Europe & Canada & other trade with Cuba I would use then opposite strategy. Smother them with love. Just poor in so much money & person to person contacts that they get overwhelmed.

I believe both strategies can work. Half a$$ing sanctions/trade embargoes or limited engagement does not work. Nothing but pain there.

Here we go again folks! Get ready for another round of freedom restrictions from TSA/HS! They will use Iran as an excuse? This is how they plan to take over, by slowly building Homeland security forces till they are big enough to control our movements! By exaggerating the threats from any country or group thereby giving them reason to act against us! Is it not funny how most enacted restrictions are used against the normal everyday traveler not terrorist? Other wise why are we looking in granny’s shoes? When we lose our freedom to move around & communicate we’re finished without a shot being fired! We’ve a small window of time to stop it but that’s closing fast! The powers to be didn’t factor in the 2010 upset & they now need to accelerate their plans. This has led to them exposing themselves long before they had planned. That is why things are happening almost on a daily basis that give them reason to announce more restrictions on travel and speech! Obama never intended to run for a 2nd term. He was supposed to just have the dem controlled congress & Senate declare him the leader of the world. The truth is, that we regular civilians have no idea what is really going on over there. Sure the media gives us bits and pieces, but flip the channel, and you get different bits. I I hate to say think that propaganda would be used to get American citizens on board with attacking Iran, but look at our nations history, and suddenly that’s not so crazy. Bring up blowback, and your labeled a conspiracy theorist or worse, bring up non-interventionalism, and you an isolationist. What happened in this country that we can no longer have dialogue, and try to solve things peacefully. try and do that, and your labeled soft. Close the bases we don’t need to have around the world, and bring those troops home to protect us, if we are worried about an attack. We hear rumors of plans to attack us, and what will we do, attack first. The world is starting to dislike us, and can we blame them. if we attack, we will kills thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of civilians, only making us more hated. we need to back off, and let Iran be Iran. If Israel is really our ally, they have 100 nukes pointed at Iran. Iran attacks, and they are done, but why do we need to throw gas on the fire? Is a nuclear Iran more dangerous, than a nuclear Cuba, or Soviet Union? We didn’t go to war with them…

Yeah, but this administration believes sanctions are the answer, not conventional military action. It would be hard to convince the masses that massively reducing the size of our own fighting forces is in our best interest if Israel would wipe out a large number of conventional troops and the result is a weakened nation. The left is trying way too hard to convince everyone that scores of thousands of fewer troops is somehow HELPFUL in national defense. @Walk About

      That I can agree to!

All I’m saying is if we are to use sanctions, we should as a tool of war and be responsible for the reactions sanctions cause. We should understand what sanctions do, cause a reaction.

Right now, our Government uses sanctions and then says look the sanctioned hate us for no reason at all, we need to attack them quick.

Sanctions won’t work on Iran an oil exporting country. Emerging markets like India will absorb everything we sanction.

In fact, Iran just announced they plan to cut oil to Europe soon in retaliation to Europe voting to embargo Iran oil. Essentially, Europe will be worse off because they will be cut off without time to find another source of oil.

      Appreciate the conversation. Stay safe!

What most folks do not understand is that the Next Nuke war is not going to be the devastation like Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We have gone way beyond that. Just a few days ago a hit by a solar flare caused problems with Communications. An EMP from a Nuke, is about 100,000 times more powerful.

It will be One Nuke shutting down the complete infrastructure of a country in less than 5 minutes after launch. Followed by the collapse of the society and deaths by attrition. Which China already says they have, and Iran is practicing to do in the Arabian Sea. All they need now is the Nuke to create the EMP.

Iran now has Missile bases in Venezuela armed with missiles that can reach the USA. They have Missile Capable Submarines being deployed to patrol off the East Coast of the USA.. They are purchasing tactical Missile Systems from Russia that are concealed in Cargo containers and undetectable till they are activated for launch.

All this to protect themselves from a “Percieved” threat of attack from the USA?

Bear in Mind that the Muslims are taught from childhood that it is their Duty to die for Allah in pursuit of the Caliphate. And to do so is to be a martyr.

Sanctions/embargoes ARE an act of war. Doesn’t matter with Iran because they have China and Russia as allies.
Sanctions were used on the Japanese to provoke an attack on Pearl Harbor to create a “helpful wave of indignation” for American support of WWII.
FDR KNEW Pearl Harbor was going to be attacked. Code purple, and the more important JN-25 codes had been broken WEEKS before the attack. FDR had even ordered the newer ships out of Pearl Harbor, and put soon to be decommissioned junk in its place.
America was mostly isolationist after WWI. They didn’t want any more of that nonsense. There was even an “America First” organisation that strongly promoted those values. That all changed after Pearl Harbor.
Gulf of Tonkin was also a bunch of horse hockey. It was an event that McNamara eventually ADMITTED NEVER HAPPENED, but was the start of a full scale war in Vietnam that killed almost 60,000 Americans..

Now they’ve backed Iran into a corner. Israel is playing a game of “let’s you and him fight.” They are good at getting us to fight their enemies for them. Google “dancing Israelis on 9/11.” Israel and elements of our hijacked US Govt. and Military are going after Iran, because they aren’t going to play ball with the IMF and World Bank loan sharks.

Many of you are gladly cheering the noose that is being lowered around your necks.
Take some time to learn some history.

The USSR collapsed do to over extending their military and war efforts as well as  massive debt.

      @Rush is Right

and those sanctions for years have kept fuel on the fire and caused more animosity towards the US by the Iranian citizens. What has sanctions accomplished besides provoking the Persians to war? NOTHING

Cuba has been at odds with the USA since about Thomas Jefferson’s time. 1959 the first actual sanctions due to communist revolution and 1962 or 63 a blockade was put up in an attempt to isolate Cuba. America was very bitter we were not able to colonize and keep control over Cuba the island gateway to the Gulf of Mexico so we have punished them since. Learn history.

Saying what you mean and meaning what you say is not roll over policy. Being responsible for our actions is not roll over policy. A coward provokes an altercation only to blame the provoked for reacting and that is your foreign policy because you don’t have the honor or evidence needed to declare war so you create the reaction you want.

Manipulation 101 and manipulation is evil and not of God.

If we sanctioned Cuba for hosting Russian missiles, should we be sanctioned for putting missiles in Europe? Good for the gander is good for the goose.

Looks like Mossad chief met days ago with our top folks! This is going to get very interesting considering Hillary if calling for stronger UN security actions against Syria who is a surrogate Iran terror State and who is also backed by mother Russia as is Iran. She fears what is going on in Syria will spill over into the region. I guarantee you that if we attack Syria and or Iran hostilities will spill over into the region and maybe even our own homeland with Iranian hits squads or a nuke or two from Russia. Don’t forget Chinas lobbed missile in our general direction off Socal in late 2010.

Ohhh… Dangerous… very dangerous… Doesn’t accomplish what we need. What happens is Iran’s defenses are weakened, another radical faction takes over. The new group still has the bomb and are probably more likely to use it. This is basically what happened to our little endeavor into Libya, where we helped a radical group unseat Quadaffi only to find out that the new group had thousands of weapons that the US “donated”, which can then be used against us or our allies. We’ve now made this mistake in Afghanistan twice. We helped the Mujaheddin run the Ruskies out so the Taliban took over. The Taliban let Al Qaeda base their training camps and Bin Laden (who we supported) and that resulted in 911. Now we’ve evicted the Taliban, and they’ve joined up with Al Qaeda and will likely take back the country in a more dangerous form as soon as our troups are gone. Heck we even gave them a timetable to work on so they can be Johnny-on-the-spot .

All we need right now is another war to cause this economy to topple and cause thousands more deaths and maimings.

The concept of mutually assured destruction works with Iran as it has and does with all the other hostile states who possess nuclear weapons, like North Korea and Pakistan and China.

We’re being lied to again, because the political demagogues and the power hungry elites believe an attack on Iran will increase their power and wealth some way.

I‘m surprised this Obama bunch isn’t trying to get us to believe Iran will bomb us, because they “hate our freedoms,” as the moronic Geo. Bush expected us to believe about the terrorist attack on the WTC.

Last thing, to all the Shiite “Islam” experts, google Sufayani and see in Persian belief before a Mahdi comes the Sufayani must present himself in Syria and that brings about the “Mahdi”….A lot forget to tell you that part…..

Iran wants a US attack because it will unite Islam and Caliphate around the Persians and topple the current powerful Saudi Sunnis….

We sided with Islam on the Arab side and can be seen by sending them F-15′s, bunker busting bombs, our tax dollars, nuclear technology, troops for defense, and advanced weapons. Now Saudi called on all ARAB countries to unite under the Saudi King and form an Arab State (caliphate) to counter the Persians.

After the Persians are removed, you think that US armed, trained, and supplied Islamic Arab Caliphate will turn on the US and Israel? But I thought Islam was evil and treating women like animals was wrong.

Killing people for sanctions is an escalation of force not a response. How can you justify those actions yet a preemptive strike is completely out of control? Your logic lacks logic. Straight up these people want Americans dead! ALL AMERICANS DEAD! That even includes atheists. Mohammed tells them to kill us all! Yet you blame America for their action’s/reaction’s? I said sanctions will result in one of 2 actions: compliance or retaliation, and if we are to USE sanctions we must be responsible for the reaction they provoke.

You do understand sanctions applied upon a country causes hardship for the people living in such country don’t you? Sanctions can kill people, and are intended to do so.

If America was sanctioned by the UN by request of China, Russia, Iran and Saudi Arabia you‘d be begging America to attack in response because our economy would collapse and you’d be starving.

Look at the reaction by the US when Iran said it would sanction us back by closing the strait of Hormuz. We responded it would be taken as a declaration of war. Why should we not expect others to do the same when we sanction them?

If “they” want us all dead, why do we arm Saudi Arabia with weapons? Why give UAE bunker busting bombs and nuclear technology? Why send billions of our tax dollars to Pakistan? All are Islamic and follow Mohamed.

Another name for Iran (Persia) in the Bible is Elam.
Elam was an ancient civilization located in what is now southwest Iran.
“This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning
      Elam [Iran].” (Jeremiah 49:34)
“See, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might. I will bring
against Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven; I will scatter
them to the four winds, and there will not be a nation where Elam’s exiles
      do not go.” (Jeremiah 49:35–36)
“‘I will shatter Elam before their foes, before those who want to kill them; I
will bring disaster on them, even my fierce anger,’ declares the Lord. ‘I will
pursue them with the sword until I have made an end of them. I will set my
throne in Elam and destroy her king and officials,’ declares the Lord. ‘Yet
I will restore the fortunes of Elam in days to come,’ declares the Lord.”
      (Jeremiah 49:37-39)
“I will bring against Elam [Iran] the four winds from the four quarters of
heaven; I will scatter them to the four winds….” (Jeremiah 49:35–36)

The Rothschild-Zionists running Israel want nothing better than to start WWIII that ends up pitting Muslim nations against Christian nations that result in the destruction of both factions. This has been part of the global elites’ plan since the late 1800s and is designed to usher in their New World Order. Our CFR-controlled government and our “jewish” owned and controlled media are working in collaboration with the Israeli Rothschild-Zionists to foment war by pushing Iran into a corner, just as the US deliberately did under FDR with Japan as a ruse for drawing the US into war with both Japan and the other other Axis powers in WWII and as the sinking of the Lusitania was orchestrated between the US and Britain to draw the US into WWI.

It would make better sense that go after the listing of all those that are in the political structure instead. I am sure the enemy could put together a list of politicians, the corporate leaders that write policy, the attorneys that screw everyone anyway, the educators that mold the minds of the innocent American people, and finally those that usurp the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. That would make this country a whole lot better off. God knows we have asked them to leave but they won’t!

People who say it is, well it’s just a convenient excuse that explains everything without actually explaining anything, if it is us who provoked war than keep in mind Iran has done so aswell.

Safer than it has ever been, Mr. President?
So, If my grandmother’s house, which never had locks, were to have ONE lock added to it, I could claim it was “safer than ever.” Of course, no thief would dare check one of the other doors or windows!!
What a joke! Our own President refuses to protect us.
Then, he puts a woman in charge of homeland “security” – who STOPS the border from being secured!!

First, I didn’t vote Obama or any other Democrat into national office.

Second, I didn’t protest in the streets or make public statements that the war is lost (any war but specifically Iraq). In 1991 & 2003 Saddam Hussein knew he couldn’t prevail against the U.S. Military. He just calculated that if he could inflict enough casualties & hold out long enough that he would prevail. The street protests, Harry Reid making comments “The War is lost.”, CNN reporter Christine Amanpour screeching “100,000 body bags”. Ted Kopecne -Kennedy, I will vote against every war, all give hope to any nation or oligarchy that has ill will toward America & Americans.

Oh & we are not broke if we break the power of the union cartels & lower taxes. You want velocity & productivity let people keep more of what they earn. The economic recession/depression will evaporate.

I would not hesitate to have my kids sign up if the military was something more than a football. As it is we take higher casualties at the start of every new war because some damnable lib always is looking for a peace dividend.

Yes, because attacks on our soil should be dealt with overseas. Where does THAT make any sense? How about securing our borders and fighting the domestic enemy. Let them waste their resources and lower their morale by coming to fight US. If fighting these foreign wars puts a strain on OUR budget, just IMAGINE what it’ll do to theirs.

And they have no credit rating, nor an important international currency. They would not be able to get away with this borrowing murder like we have, not even close.

Let them take the fight to us. I, among many patriots, will be waiting with plenty of weapons and ammunition (and bacon) to thwart this threat. An attack on mainland US spells nothing but death and embarassment for them, we just have to enact a defensive strategy.

@ragingjudge….In war the offense ALWAYS has the advantage over the defense. When you can act and force your enemy to react to your movements or actions you are in control of the conflict. Why do we fight them “over there”? Because if your enemy is expending men and treasure to defend their territory then they are unable to expend men and treasure to conduct significant offensive operations against you. That is why we dont just pull all our troops home. If anything we should remove all our troops from Europe and deploy them on long term bases in the middle east. Keep the sword of damaclease dangling over their head and decrease the overseas operating budget of the military.

Ron Paul is assessment of blow back is correct only in the sense that our strategies in Iraq and Afghanistan are/were incorrect. President Bush failed to assure a sound military strategy. The route of “winning hearts and minds” and “pacification”, which failed in Viet Nam, were employed.

If Bush had put in place the following, Paul’s assessment would be faulty. This is a cut and paste from an article I read and happen to agree with.

“To paraphrase the Italian political analyst Machiavelli, a leader should be kind, helpful, compassionate, etc. until war breaks out. At that point, the leader of the military forces needs to become vicious and ruthless, aspiring to aggressively win the conflict as quickly as possible. Once victorious, everyone can go back to their regular jobs and the leader can be kind, helpful and so forth once again.

War is a serious endeavor and should only be undertaken by serious people who can articulate a clear vision of victory….

The war on terror is an example of an old world strategy in a new age of warfare. We are not fighting for land but for beliefs and purpose, which are not geographically limited. Members of terrorist organizations need to be taught that if they do kill thousands of Americans then their friends, neighbors and relatives, at least the ones who manage to survive our retaliation, will spend the rest of their lives wishing that those terrorists had not been so stupid as to attack the United States.

      We cannot

900 bases in 130 countries! Spooky.

I know of countries in the US.S. that have 3 installations.

The big round number argument. Dogbert uses that argument.

One of my parents was stationed overseas & that is how my parents met. I have also heard some people saying that then one‘s parent’s country was OCCUPIED because their were American bases. Of course they were leftists. I never heard any such talk from relatives or from my parent.

All I care about is the that the quadrennial review is done correctly & is not a political football & that our allies live up to their NATO obligation 4% expenditure on military to shoulder their FAIR share.
Arguing number like 900 or 130 is LAME without talking about the quadrennial review.

That 500 civilian sailors are hostage in Somalia is proof enough that the politicians have not allowed the military to do their job or they are not spending enough.

Offensive strategy absolutely does NOT have amonopoly on victory. Offensive strategies are only successful short-term, otherwise they inevitably become costly and ineffective. Either you lose momentum and the campaign drags on or you outrun your supply lines and risk defeat in battle or even being surrounded and cut off from all possible supply routes. Only defensive strategy can be maintained on a long-term basis, and is especially effective in our situation, where the enemy cannot possibly cut off our trade with other nations. They can cut off the Strait of Hormuz, so what? That would hurt them more than anyone, since that is their primary source of income. As soon as we start drilling in the US that won’t even matter.

I’m all in favor of offensive strikes against nations we have declared war against. We DO actually have to declare war though, and the operations have to be swift and punishing. Think guerrilla warfare on a large scale. Get in, do some damage, get out, recover, repeat. That will keep them on their toes, so they cannot focus their forces solely on offense. It would be MUCH cheaper for us, and we would do MUCH more damage-per-dollar.

Big Sis could invite the Iranians over, pay their way and make sure they were unimpeded crossing the border, just so the C-Air folks would not think we were anti-islamic. Might even see that they get home safe and sound too. So, we might as well bring the troops home, … but then that would add to the unemployment number . . . . or maybe we could hire them to clean up the mess and bury the dead, . . . Its all just so difficult.

I’m not worried at all. I live in NJ and carrying a gun or getting a permit to carry is next to impossible. So these terrorists will not come here because they won’t get a carry permit. Also, in NJ hollow point bullets are illegal along with fully automatic weapons. Thank goodness the NJ government is ignoring the 2A and the right of the honest citizen to protect themselves. Because with all these laws terrorists won’t dare come into NJ with a fully automatic weapon or nukes. Yes, these laws protect us….

If it ain‘t broke don’t fix it. AKs have been around this long because they work, not because they are brag-worthy to your pals at the gun range or at the compound. A 60% more devastating round is just a bonus. Throw in cheap and ubiquitous, and you have a winner for all 3rd-world despot armies and self-defense on a budget.

I know I’ll never convert an AR zealot. But hey, I think the AK has far more “pros” than the AR, just my $.02.

When you use people as cannon fodder you dont need the most high-tech weapons. During WWII the russions tanks outnumbered the Nazi tanks about 10 to 1 … the Nazi’s could not kill them fast enough and got overrun. Same as in Vietnam…we killed 100 times more solders but they kept coming. And besides, and AK is perfect for what they use it for…they are not expected to reach out and touch someone 1000 yards away; they are cheap, they can take three broken ones and make a working one and the battle field is littered with extra ammo

Those are in fact AK-47s in the picture, even though the Iranian Army likes to use their own Iranian-designed Khaybar KH2002, an 5.56mm NATO M16 clone that resembles the FAMAS (and yes, is named after the slaughter of Jews at Khaybar).

Clearly range is not always important, but the M14 sacrifices nothing over the AK-47 to provide that accuracy and range. It is every bit as reliable as an AK. And no, you cannot jam mud into your AK barrel and expect it to fire. It can take a lot, but a full clog will cause the chamber to overload with pressure, just like any other automatic. You also cannot shoot underwater, because primers will not ignite underwater. You can, however, get the rifle wet and expect it to fire. The AK jams just like any other automatic, it just jams a lot less than most (especially the diva M16).

The M14 is essentially an M1 with an external magazine and selective rate of fire, chambered in 7.62×51mm. 7.62×51mm NATO is still much more powerful than the 7.62×39mm Russian, which is scarcely more powerful than the 5.56 NATO. Both NATO rounds are ballistically superior to the Russian. The 7.62 NATO also has much better penetration than the Russian, which is imperative when fighting an enemy who is using light cover or body armor.

Summary: AK and M14 are roughly equal in reliability, but M14 is more accurate, more powerful, has greater range and penetration. The AK allows you to carry a little bit more ammo, arguably, but that is the only advantage it holds

I cannot imagine Iran feeling threatened and wanting to strike at us. I mean its not like we have surrounded them in bases, by March will have almost 100k in troops around them and 3 aircraft carriers off their coast.

No matter what anyone says, we are starting this war. Look I dont like Muslims, I dont trust them, but we are causing this conflict. I mean we are using the same playbook we did against Iraq. Do you people want another war? Another operation that kills 100k civilians? Causes more hate towards us? Are you ready for 1 of our soldiers to die in that worthless desert? Are you ready to pay for another 10 year plus occupation? Are you ready for the BLOWBACK that it will eventually cause?

Remember in 1998 Osama bin Laden said on CBS he was going to bring the war to our soil because we occupied Muslim lands. Mainly pointed out Saudi Arabia and that we killed 100k in children in Iraq. Here is the link.

Fact of the matter, intervention supported by Obama and GOP is Progressive foreign policy as seen championed under Wilson.  The GOP has progressed that much.

“Go kick rocks?” Don’t take my word for it OKIE… read up on what admitted progressives describe Ron Paul when it comes to foreign policy.

Yes OKIE… Ron Paul’s foreign policy is more in line with what progressives have out-lined as their goals and what they look for in a leader (and this is according to them, read up on it).

To many progressives (not all), Ron Paul has some distasteful qualities… but when it comes to foreign policy in particular… your boy Ron (again according to them) is the cat’s meow and quite the progressive… they like that about him. He’s a progressive hero in their progressive foreign policy eyes. They put him over their other hero Obama almost 2-1 as the BIGGER progressive in this area. They love Paul’s progressive foreign policy ideas. They just dig your boy Ron the progressive.

      Go pound sand…

      @Rational Man

Are you talking about the audit the Fed bill Newt blocked or the removal from the UN Newt blocked? Why it surprises you a Constitutionalist had a hard time getting bills passed under Progressive leaders only shows you are not much of a thinker and come spouting your mouth leaving out major facts.

Example one: “Paul literally takes the side of our‘s and Israel’s enemies.”

You say Paul literally supports ours and Israel’s enemies yet he is against foreign aid and you support a candidate who wants to send our money, weapons, and troops to Israel’s enemies the Muslim Arabs.

So by supporting those who support sending aid, weapons and troops for defense to Muslim Nations you support Islam, Israel’s enemy and some say ours and are actually backing the creation of an Arab Muslim Caliphate.

You are definitely not a thinker and might want to work on that. Just sayin!

Samantha Powers is someone you might want to check out since she champions PROGRESSIVE foreign policy of intervention on “humanitarian” concerns as seen in Libya.

“Progressive” useful idiots who oppose war are probably that stupid to say what you stupidly believed and repeated. Shows how sharp you are, like a tic tac.

I have no problem with Obama ordering the killing Radical Muslims… over there… wherever they hide.

Just like ordering the killing of Bin Laden and others who have aided him in the past, personally taken part in or are in the planning stages of harm of Americans… over there… preferably. Hell yes! Kill ‘em Obama!!

Until the GOP (which the Democratic leaning Libertarian Ron Paul insults with his presence) gets Obama out of office… I have no problem with him ordering the killing of as many Radical Muslims his little heart desires.

I’m sure you do support Obama….No surprise there….

Isolationist? How dumb. Isolationists would be the people isolating countries they don’t like and refusing to speak to them.

Pacifiers would be ones that pander to Arab Islamists like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan by sending them our dollars, weapons, and troops in order to receive oil and “intel”.

Cowards would be those who call for sanctions and then act irresponsible by blaming the recipient for reacting.

By saying cowardly, pacifist, and isolationist you described the very policies you support.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha OKIE. Seems you’ve run out of steam. Tell me… how many Paul supporters went and actually voted for Obama in 2008? Don’t know? Thousands. Why? Because many Paul supporters thought Obama’s was going to be just as progressive with his foreign policy as Ron Paul would be. Boy are those Paul groupies (maybe you for all we know) disappointed in Obama the Radical Muslim killer!!

Paul is a fringe “con” artist who aligns himself with fringe leftists, progressives and liberals more often than not. Paul sides with terrorists and traitors.

Paul is no Conservative. Paul is a coward. Paul is a traitor to America. Anyone who supports Paul must also be a coward and a traitor.

Are you a coward and traitor OKIE? If not… re-think your support the leftist, progressive and liberal-tarian ideology of Ron Paul and come over to the side of American loving Conservatives.

Actually, they do not deport, they kill infidels. There has been going on a targeting of secret christian cells in Iran, and a lot of people have been crane hanged for trumpeted up crimes..

The problem is, we will have to deal with the more radical elements of muslims at some point, it’s not matter of if but when. If we can’t deport them, we will have to kill them. I suppose that you’ll wait until you have no choice, be killed or to kill. I prefer somewhat proactive approach, don’t like killing that much.

Fear fear fear fear, got to keep the boogeyman fresh in the mind, else why would we cower under the basement stairs with a gun in our hand, shooting at shadows in the twilight?

I’m so tired of the culture of fear, both from the Left and the Right. Every adult year of my political life I’ve heard about a spectre lurking right around the corner out to get me and have been extolled to give up another liberty or send people off to die as a result.

We’re being riled up to make the “king makers” all happy that they have “public support” to engage in their vile craft. Or do people think that the nefarious sniveling little progressives (left and right) that we all despise domestically are pure as driven snow when dealing with the rest of the world.

I’ve had enough of the fear crap. What attacks we’ve seen are the direct result of our king makers ticking people off around the world. Left to their own devices folks generally want to live their lives and raise families. You only get hornets nests when you go in and meddle in their business.

Fear fear fear. Thanks, but no thanks. Politicians have created the world we live in, let them sacrifice their own blood on the field instead of ours. Otherwise, this looks like the beginning of a nice October Surprise moment. Again.

Yes the troops in Kuwait Oman & Saudi Arabia were real menacing.

Some of them wore powder blue UN helmets & were ensuring that Iraq did not invade Kuwait. Yes that was real intimidating to Iran & Usama. Have you met people who served on UN peacekeeping missions?

Are we to give up our base in Bahrain. It was there because of the Iran – Iraq war& both side were taking shots at oil tankers. We’;re suppose to monitor the Persian gulf from Australia or Los Angles? If the sea lanes are not open & are not safe, then see what happens to the economies of our trading partners & the U.S.

Maybe some folks don’t mind being trained to have 5 Minute Hate Sessions against Goldberg every day. I find the very thought revolting. Personally, I prefer the sound advice of George Washington in his farewell address, regarding foreign policy. Not following that sage wisdom has left us with a world of “enemies”, both real and imagined. You folks have let yourself be convinced that perpetual war is a good thing. As long as we continue to send our sniveling progressives out to conduct international relations, we’ll continue to both build up, then eventually fight, groups around the world. And of course, the requisite cues given to the sheep will be bleated dutifully back “Two feet bad, four feet good” (or more aptly, “We’ve always been at war with Eurasia!”) and drown out all rational discourse or self examination.

Washington did not deal with or have to deal with the Barbary Pirates like Jefferson did.

Our bases in Kuwait, Saudi, Oman, Bahrain were the result of the Iran-Iraq tanker war & the 1991 invasion of Kuwait. It wasn’t part of some desire for continuous war making.

Out bases in Iran in 1979 were to keep tabs on the USSR. Not to keep countries surrounding Iran in line of something nefarious like that.

People I know who were station in there were involved with radar installation. You know surveellence, not suppressing the local or neighboring populace.

      @Walkabout

You write as if I haven’t studied the small event with the Barbary Pirates. As far as I know, we didn’t declare perpetual war on the middle east as a result of it.

Your military references don’t impress me. I was SIGINT military intelligence in the field. Nothing you point out is something that’s going to silence me in some kind of semi-religious respect. Sorry.

And Kuwait was slant drilling guy, and the U.N. gracefully “redrew” the Iraqi border at the time to accomodate the Kuwait sheiks. We had no business there in the first place, and if we’d left them alone, at worst Kuwait would be part of Iraq again and…nothing else.

But that’s neither here nor there. Maybe you want a world of perpetual enemies lurking in the shadows that keep you in war fervor. I’ve grown tired of it. We’re being played as fools by smirking progressives regarding foreign policy, and I for one am done playing. Want fear? You’re welcome to it, but I won’t be joining you.

GHOST. Washington’s idea of neutrality was based in part on the complete inability of the U.S. to back up its foreign policy. But even in that case he did not say in his address that we should forever stay away from any foreign involvement.

Here is the key section of his address:

“It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world; so far, I mean, as we are now at liberty to do it; for let me not be understood as capable of patronizing infidelity to existing engagements. I hold the maxim no less applicable to public than to private affairs, that honesty is always the best policy. I repeat it, therefore, let those engagements be observed in their genuine sense. But, in my opinion, it is unnecessary and would be unwise to extend them.

To warn Americans against “permanent alliances” really should go without saying. Decades later a fast friend of the United States basically said the same thing when he said there are “no eternal allies” and “no perpetual enemies” for any nation.

Washington went on to say, though, that sometimes we must form alliances. “Taking care always to keep ourselves by suitable establishments on a respectable defensive posture,” he wrote, “we may safely trust to temporary alliances for extraordinary emergencies.”

Obviously he understood that always staying neutral as Paul and [most other liberals] maintain… is not possible. It should also be realized that this was Was

      Con’t….

…was Washington’s (and Hamilton’s) vision. The farewell address was not an explication of standard practice even when it was written, but Washington’s ideals. Many founders disagreed with this vision. So to act like an isolationist policy was a singular founding principle is a horrible misread of history.

See, the choice isn’t this, friend:

You’re either A) Somebody who believes we should strike other nations first, just in case or B) total isolationist.

That false choice was set up by Wilsonians, and I’ll have none of it, thank you very much. If you wish to advocate a cowardly bully foreign policy, by all means do so. I’ll retain my quainte American tradition of not running around kicking others first.

    Gosh Clapper, you think?

Just hope they don’t car bomb a Walmart near you. Walmart is as symbolic of American commerce as hitting a mall would be.

In a Tom Clancy novel Islamo-terrorists shot up a mall. There was a person arrested, convicted & incarcerated for planning exactly that. He was Somali & he crossed the Southern border illegally. the targeted mall was in Ohio. Point is is that people, Americans & terrorists, have thought that terrorists would hit a shopping mall. If malls are locked down they will move onto the next softest target with terror potential, Walmart.

When ethnic Chinese died due to Kmer Rouge policies in Cambodia, China supported Pol Pot. I am sure the Chinese oligarchy would be content to reap profits form trad with Walmart on one hand & on the other hand support Iran if it ordered Hizboallah to attack such targets in the U.S.

      Watcha ya say to that?

Iran has been ready for a decade. Nothing has changed. How about some concrete evidence before we go start bombing them is that too much to ask?

true. And while Israel is our friend, we must hold them accountable to how they treat others in the region. A lot of my brothers and sisters are so hopped up on Hagee, if you will, and we forget what Jesus taught. We know all about judgement of nations…yet we forget about ourselves. We could learn a lot from Jesus. However, we want our kingdom on earth. I pray for a return to reformed theology. Bless all. He is near.
