Utah TV Station Refuses to Air Racy New NBC Show ‘The Playboy Club’

Utah TV Station Refuses to Air Racy New NBC Show ‘The Playboy Club’An NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City, Utah, has decided not to air “The Playboy Club,” a dramatic (and racy) series slated to premiere this fall. The Daily Caller has more:

NBC’s Salt Lake City affiliate KSL-TV has chosen not to broadcast the network’s upcoming fall drama, “The Playboy Club,” which follows the Bunnies, political figures, and mob bosses of the first Playboy Club in 1960’s Chicago.

“The Playboy brand is known internationally,” KSL president and CEO Mark Willes said in a statement. “Everyone is clear what it stands for. We want to be sure everyone is clear what the KSL brand stands for, which is completely inconsistent with the Playboy brand.”

Interestingly, KSL is owned and operated by Deseret Media Companies, which is managed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a popular denomination among Salt Lake City residents. The station and its owner are sponsors for a campaign called “Out in the Light,” which educates the public about problems that are associated with viewing sexually-explicit material. Thus, this decision may be partially predication upon that committment.

NBC says that the network is confident that it can work with KSL to see the show be broadcast on another Salt Lake City channel when it comes out in the fall. Below, you can watch the show’s trailer:

I‘ve often wondered how the Mormon church could own TV and radio stations in today’s society. The members of this denomination should look into this. If they cared about decent people, they would have their own secular network playing decent stuff. Just not showing one bad show doesn’t amount to anything. If their church can show the bad things they show, their members should protest at the collection plate.

Maybe the Mormon Church would like to allow free choice as often as possible without stepping over the line of decency. Maybe we should applaud them for putting their foot down about this, instead of accusing them of not being more ‘religious fascist’ about things in the past. How silly that we can’t praise the good things that happen in the world without dredging up the bad to defame the source.

In the music industry, the test of a REALLY good song is if it’s still good with just a voice and a piano (or guitar). Strip away all the bells and whistles. If the song is still good, it’s a keeper.

For too long, TV/Film has taken the easy road off pandering to the lowest of human insticts in order to get eyes on their product. I applaud ANYONE who will stand up and reject the mass-produced garbage and demand quality programing. It’s sort of sad to watch the desperation coming out of LA and NY based entertainment. Let’s stop the spoon-fed pablum and bring back great storytelling, witty and fast pased dialogue that keeps you thinking, and character-driven drama. Please?

They may have “the real thing” just west and south….but not in the state. .

The show ‘BIG LOVE”…is a farce fool.
PLUS< There are always a few nut cases in any religion, that don't follow the church's teachings, as we've seen in scandal after scandal…

Good for Utah standing up for what they believe is right/wrong.
Show like Jersylicious, Jersey shore, those terrible housewives of whateverville… etc are making household names out of derelict asses that do not represent the norm…they're like an accident you don't want to see….but it's splattered everywhere and you cannot avoid it, like some rap music, that the people degrade their own race and women in particular…we have reached a new low in this country. We seem to make "stars" out of the freaks. It's up to us to stop it.

YEAH….THE ACLU WILL BE CALLING AT ANY MOMENT…. Look into the founding of the ACLU and tell me they're around to protect Americans/

It is about time they took a stand. I don’t watch ANY network television because of the trash that is consistently on. KSL-TV is not innocent in this respect. They seem to carry the trash just like the other affiliates, except for an occasional rejection. I really wish more affiliates would set higher standards. In reality it is a money issue. People like me have gone completely to the cable and the internet for tv viewing since the networks insist on showing their crap and forcing their agendas down our throats. Really though, it is their decision, but if they are not careful, network television will end just like newspapers and will become obsolete. They control their destiny, you keep pushing trash on people and they will leave for a better product. It is that simple.

      @101

Depends on if you’re honest about what polygammy really is. Polygammy is a man committing to raise a family with more than one woman. Playboy club is a man strictly using women for sexual gratification with no committment. So, yes, polygammy is better than Playboy. Men do use polygammy to hide other sexual sins and disgusting treatment of women (especially under age girls), but that is the evil act, hidden behind polygammy or not.

Interesting that our world is “ok” with a single guy sleeping around. TV shows depict men and women interchanging partners all the time for entertainment. But when consenting adults decide to commit to each other and other partners, the world suddenly decries it as evil.

@sissykatz There are plenty of people out there that use more curse words than regular words when talking. It’s just a sign of ignorance and a lack of class and respect.
So to sum up, if you curse, you have no class.
