Utter Lack of Understanding: Bi Partisan Business Group Fires Back at Obamas You Didnt Build Your Business SpeechThe National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), the nation’s leading bipartisan small-business advocacy group, has released a statement criticizing President Obama for saying that it’s only through the grace of government that anyone has ever succeeded.

“What a disappointment to hear President Obama‘s revealing comments challenging the significance of America’s entrepreneurs,” NFIB President Dan Danne said in a statement to Mail Online.

“His unfortunate remarks over the weekend show an utter lack of understanding and appreciation for the people who take a huge personal risk and work endless hours to start a business and create jobs,” he added.

President Obama argued during his speech Friday night in Roanoke, Va., that entrepreneurs only succeed when government lets them, saying: “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

“You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, ‘well, it must be because I was just so smart,’” he added.

With language like that, it’s not really surprising that small-business advocacy groups are a little, um, “irate.”

“I’m sure every small-business owner who took a second mortgage on their home, maxed out their credit cards or borrowed money from their own retirement savings to start their business disagrees strongly with President Obama’s claim,” an NFIB spokesman said.

“They know that hard work does matter,” he added. “Every small business is not indebted to the government or some other benefactor. If anything, small businesses are historically an economic and job-creating powerhouse in spite of the government.”

Founded in 1943, the NFIB boasts of over 350,000 members and is officially a non-partisan organization (although it does contribute to Republican candidates).

Later in his speech, as the Daily Mail notes, the president tried to explain his view of the economy via an example involving state-run emergency programs: “There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.”

The president’s “you couldn’t do anything without the state” speech draws a clear contrast between him and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

The president’s comments “reflect just how unqualified he is to lead us to a real economic recovery” and were “insulting to the hardworking entrepreneurs, small-business owners, and job creators who are the backbone of our economy,” said Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul.

That is to say, we can probably expect the Romney campaign to go after the president’s Elizabeth Warren-esque speech as the election starts to really heat up.

If you read all of their site, you will understand that they stand for business persons and do want them to succeed. If that is right wing politics to you, then you are betting on failure of all business. Tell you what, when you are old enough and maybe if you can scrap together enough funds, get out there and start a business for yourself. (BTW, I only made $23K after graduating from college and had to work my way up- was making $45K after 8 years and was very happy with myself because I worked for it.)

      Still living at home with your P’s? Yeah, probably so.

      So you want the government to take care of you so that you don’t have to work too hard. Yeah, I understand.

      Meanwhile, my husband and I bought our small business where we actually scrape together money to make it and by the end of the year have to take out loans to keep our employees & rent paid. Where was our government handout? That’s right, we don’t get any. And we don’t want it.

      My 401K has been completely wiped out so that we can continue to invest in this business which is finally starting to show some profits.

      We actually pay for our and our employees healthcare. Oh, and when they do a great job like they did earlier this year, guess what? WE REWARD THEM with things like iPADs and money. Because that is what you do for people who work hard and contribute to your businesses success. Oh, and on top of that, they ALL RECEIVED RAISES again. That’s right, we might have to struggle a little bit but we take care of our people.       I don’t no how it affects some of you liberal, progressive posters, but It’s beginning to get on the nerves of a very high percentage of the voting public when the President expresses his opinion on how our society functions or how it should function. Everytime this poor excuse for an administrator opens his mouth his brain cells come pouring out with red flags flying. This flags have become the signal that most of us, who are Republicans and Independents, expect when Obama talks about something he really knows nothing about, which — in my opinion — is most any subject you care to name. There are people in this nation who are willing to listen to his foolish comments and are enthralled and amused by his complete detachment to anything that even hints at being intelligent. As for me, listening to him – even for a few minutes – frustrates me no end. That is that the US after WWII came together in partnership with companies like ATT, IBM, US Steel to build a communications network, data processing foundation, a highway system and infrastructure unrivaled in the world. And be clear that without government funding and direction it would not have been accomplished.       Oh and by the way, do some research and you’ll find the GI Bill was funded by a marginal tax rate on the wealthiest Americans of 70%. So how is it that the economy was able to sustain a booming growth rate with such high marginal taxes. Hint, because the tax revenues were invested in the economy. Anyone who would say that the infrastructure, highway system, hospitals, airports, educational system, etc. investments that occurred after WWII were, or would have been done by the private sector are just plain flat out liars. And the private companies that benefited by this government investment like ATT, IBM, all airlines, the banks, etc. are well known.

And you repay them by trying to stick you children with the bill for your deficits. (modern deficits started under Reagan). So spare us your rugged individualism and I’ll pay for me and my children. Because that’s not the citizenship you benefited from and its not the citizenship that will fix the US. Plain and simple your afraid that someone might actually make you pay the bill you ran up since 1980. And by the way SS and Medicare are still solvent, so stop trying and blame the current deficits on them.

      Just because government laid the groundwork for building much of, and maintaining of, the nations bridges and roadways… who do you think paid to build them? Taxpayers.

      Who do you think pays the salaries of the snow plow drivers or people who fill potholes? Taxpayers.

      Who do you think actually builds the roads and bridges? Independent PRIVATE contractors – in most cases those aren’t city or state employees out there building your local bridge, it’s a private company hired by the government. Paid for by taxes collected from…. people and businesses.

      So YES, businesses DID pay for the roadways and bridges by paying their taxes, import/export fees, fuel surcharges, shipping charges, etc.

      I can tell you one thing, Obama sure isn’t smart enough to have made it to where he is on his own, he had a lot of help, a whole lot a help, only problem is he is keeping it all secret and locked away. Lets see Obama, tell us who helped you out. My mother and father started their own retail store when my dad came back from WWII, no one helped them they worked 7 days a week and some times 12 hours a day, to the point of almost killing themselves. My mother and father in their later years when they should have been retired and enjoying their lives together, my dad sat up one night and decided he was going to build a storage unit, and that wasn’t enough so he took on a U-haul dealership at the storage place as well. He was 80 years old when he sold it, my mother used to crawl up into the U-haul trucks to get the mileage and drive them and park them when they came back in, and she was 79. No one helped her and my dad start a business. Obama never worked a day in his life, never signed a pay check, and I doubt he even knows how to endorse one. Marys

      You know what really bugs me is, when the economy(i am in California) went south (I am a dog groomer) No one could hire me they just had no dogs for me to groom.

      I guess I could have gone on unemployment or something, But I had a little money sooo my DH and I built a DIY mobile grooming van, I have been in business for myself for 3 yrs, I just make enough to get by, NOBODY helped me and I pay A LOT in taxes.

      Also SB969 is a new bill about to get passed that would crush any dog groomer in the state, it seems that the government is against business not for it.

    As a small business owner for 41 years whose husband just got home after his usual 14 hour work day, I can’t even describe how angry this makes me. He even has it WRONG about the infrastructure and school teachers. WE PAY FOR THOSE, TOO.

      i have to agree with the mad as hell feeling, i to own my own small lawn and pool business,have for over 20 years, had 10 full time employees until obama took office now down to one and a half, “” me and my wife when she get home from her full time job, i have never ask the government for a hand out nor will i accept one,if it means i have to join a communist regime.i have struggled a lot to make payroll and more than once i never got paid,but my employees did,my bills got paid,and the irs got their share,but my family had to suffer,but i never gave up and never will, i am sorry for all of the employees and their families because i can not afford to hire them back, but with obama and his regime forcing regulations and taxes { penalties } and his buddies driving up the cost of health care and gas i may not ever be able to hire them back, and i may not be able to continue to stay in business.obama does not know anything about how to survive or run a business nor does anyone of his left wing,anti America,anti capitalist buddies,they only know how to destroy business.

      Thank you, I’ve been waiting for someone (Romney, preferably) to make this point…the “you used a road to get to your office” argument is asinine, but if they wanna make it, fine. I paid for the road, I paid for the business, I hired people who needed jobs, I paid taxes out of my profits. Government did NOTHING to help me… they did not build the roads or hire the firemen out of the goodness of their hearts, they did it with MY tax dollars. Let’s be clear (to borrow one of Dear Leader’s favorite comments): Government needs private enterprise to exist, NOT the other way around.

    FYI Mr. President: the construction of those roads, bridges, schools and the thousands of companies that make up what is collectively called the internet are all private companies themselves, founded by hard working risk takers who work insane hours and risk their own capital on top of having the skills to pay the bills. The reason this commie coddling president of ours getting up in front of people and telling them America‘s hardest working business people don’t deserve what they have is because he is setting up the next wealth grab. This is a calculated bunch of rhetoric aimed at appeasing the looting class to pit them against the achievers of this country and prime the pump for draining yet more capital from the only entity capable of creating REAL jobs. From listening to the reaction of the crowd, I’d say he achieved his goal.

Conservatism, in it’s essence, is the adherence to the logical and moral principal that each of us was endowed at conception to pursue his or her happiness. This is a dynamic, powerful and progressive concept, that at it’s core is fluid and changing. Socialism, time and time again, has always economically and often violently led to the harm of the individual and his right to live his own life. It’s strange, but I can’t imagine how you can read history and look honestly around you and still maintain your outlook. Perhaps you are doing neither. Remember this though, conservatism holds the belief in the individual to be it’s most solemn tenet while socialism assumes that people are incapable and need control. Mandating from the top in a society is so logically flawed and so clearly debunked by historical evidence, that one must be purposefully blind not to see it. The founding of this nation was based on a limited federal government. The further we stray from this ideal, the worse our economy becomes and the disintegration of quality of life increases. Conservatism is the vanguard, the genius of man.

I’m sure they are being reviewed so that he does not release information that is personal to others involved with his businesses.     Just found out that the El Dictator is coming here tomorrow. He hasn’t been here since his last fundraiser before he got elected. The party is hosted by more knee dwellers- Eva Longoria, Joquin Castro, our mayor and twin,Julian Castro, and Charlie Rangel. People attending are paying $250-$5000 a person. About 1200 are expected to attend. And the Obama bum lickers are so excited! He’s sliding into town like an illegal alien and taking what he can probably from the very misguided business owners in the area. He wouldn’t stop her otherwise, since he knows he has the Hispanic vote and illegal alien vote in our Sanctuary City in the bag.I bet most are retired and old and being taken advantage of. This Prez has no shame. He downs business owners and then is only too happy to take their money at this contrived event. I bet he loathes setting foot in Texas, but is forced to for the money. I’m hoping it hits 100 degree tomorrow. Maybe it will drive him out like the flies.
