VA Catholic Church Bans Girl Scouts Over Alleged Planned Parenthood Connection

Catholic Church Bans Girl Scouts Over Alleged Planned Parenthood ConnectionIn recent weeks, The Girl Scouts of the USA has been forced to field an array of negative publicity.

In its most recent drama, a Catholic church in Virginia has banned the organization from meeting on its grounds due to alleged connections with Planned Parenthood. This, of course, follows two other recent incidents of note.

At the end of December, the Blaze exposed one of the organization’s books that refers young readers to Media Matters for America as one of the primary sources for debunking lies and deceit. Then, a teen Girl Scout recorded a video calling for a cookie boycott over the organization’s acceptance of a transgendered male.

The newest controversy comes as St. Timothy Catholic Church in Chantilly, Virginia, has decided to banish several Girl Scout troops from meeting both at the church and at St. Timothy School, an associated facility that educates children grades preschool through eight. According to NBC Washington, the scouts also cannot wear their uniforms on church premises.

Catholic Church Bans Girl Scouts Over Alleged Planned Parenthood Connection

The Arlington Diocese explains that St. Timothy‘s pastor doesn’t believe the Girl Scouts is in line with the church’s message. The church’s decision was apparently rooted in the perceived notion that the Girl Scouts has an attachment to Planned Parenthood. Considering the ongoing debate surrounding the network of clinics and their willingness to perform abortions, this was enough to lead the church to ban the group’s activities.

“Every pastor in the diocese has the responsibility to determine how best to use their parish facilities, consider the requests of outside groups, and reconcile such requests with the needs and mission of their parish community,” read a portion of an official statement from the diocese.

The pastor’s angst seems to surround the World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts (an international coalition of scouting groups) connection to Planned Parenthood. But the Girl Scout Council of the Nation‘s Capital said that its parent isn’t WAGGGS and that it reports to Girl Scouts of the USA, an organization that does not have an attachment to Planned Parenthood.

In the past, WAGGGS has come under fire for advocating for abortion rights, as its web site purportedly advocated for “affordable, accessible, safe abortion.”

Catholic Church Bans Girl Scouts Over Alleged Planned Parenthood Connection

While it is true that the Girl Scouts of the USA doesn’t answer to WAGGGS, the group does, indeed, tout its membership in the international scouting coalition on its web site:

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is comprised of 145 member organizations, including Girl Scouts of the USA. WAGGGS not only unites all of its member organizations, but also promotes and establishes Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting organizations around the world. The goal of WAGGGS is to enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.

The Girl Scouts, though, aren‘t dissuaded by the pastor’s ban. In an official response, leaders committed to finding a new place to meet.

“This location change presents us with an opportunity to serve not only the girls from St. Timothy’s, but to invite more girls from the area to join Girl Scouts,” the statement read. “After all, this is our 100th anniversary year and a great time to be part of Girl Scouting.”

WE would not allow our daughter to join the Girl Scouts and will be driving her one hour to become a member of the American Heritage Girls. Though we could wait for a troop to possibly move closer to us, I do not want to hold my breath. My daughter is excited about the foundation and beliefs of this organization. She is not going to know any of these girls, yes actual girls not those that believe they are “girls”, I know she will quickly become friends with this group.

Agreed, more people should start local organizations for girls that represent their values, like American Heritage Girls. I’m so glad that churches and individuals are finally taking a stand against the Girl Scouts. I‘m surprised the Blaze didn’t include in this article TGS at the UN handing out Planned Parenthood pamphlets. Perhaps they weren’t aware. You don’t have to use the WAGGGS association to connect TGS to PP. I, for one, will never buy another cookie from this organization until they stop pushing their feminista agenda onto innocent little girls while pretending to teach good morals and values.

Girl Scouts is as conservative as the person running the individual troops. My wife runs a mega-troop of Girl Scouts. We are Christian and conservative and Girl Scouts USA does not dictate a liberal agenda to the individual troops. There are plenty of non-political activities to chose from on their approved list of activities. If your local troop is pushing a liberal agenda it is because the troop leader has chosen to push that message. If you don’t like how a local troop is being run, get off your ass and start your own Girl Scout Troop. My wife’s troop is the largest in the region and people drive their daughters past other troops in their area to get here. It had to be moved to a multi-room facility to accommodate it’s size and expansion. There is a hunger for conservative values. Do something about it besides boycotting because that doesn’t work.

RAPIDPATRIOT: Wrong! By staying within the Girl Scout organization you are still part of it. Simple. A portion of whatever $$$ you raise goes to the national organization, does it not? If so, you are contributing to their agenda. In the 1930‘s many German’s thought the Nazis Party had some good features … but we know the rest of the story. The only way to change the Girl Scout agenda is to abandon the organization completely as others herein recommend. Also, the national will use your local troop as an example to refute those that are leaving because of the Planned Parenthood connection.

I knew about the the Girl Scout connection to Planned Parenthood and acceptance of female homosexuals as leaders. I learned about this many years ago and pulled my daughters out of the organization and enrolled them in the Pioneer Girls. I look the adults standing with the girls selling cookies and say “No Thank You!” The Boy Scouts do not have any connection to Planned Parenthood and do not allow known homosexuals to be leader.

The Catholic church did exactly what they should have done.. For a church which is too often blamed for many shortcomings.,…it should be commended for it’s stand against the Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts have allowed the entry of radical teachings and groups and needs to be overhauled or destroyed and remade.

There is no “alledged” connection to Planned Parenthood there. After looking at the list of speakers I was appalled.,

Really, what do you expect when a higher percentage of the women in America vote baby killing Democrat. If it wasn’t for women in America, there wouldn’t be a Democratic Party, and hence, no power for the baby killing companies like Planned Parenthood. The Girl Scouts are simply following their own gender as examples.

If the founders of Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and many other organizations could see the direction these groups have taken, they would roll in their graves. Once-proud groups that were rooted in faith and patriotism have become just another breeding ground for the virus of ‘progressivism.’

The relationship between Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) and WAGGGS is very significant. GSUSA is one of the founding member nations of WAGGGS. GSUSA pays an annual membership quota to WAGGGS based upon the number of girl scouts in the US. The fee has been approximately $1.5 million per year over the past 4 years. In addition, GSUSA makes annual donations to WAGGGS through its Juliette Low World Friendship Fund and World Thinking Day Fund (approximately $250,000 over the past 2 years). In 1971 GSUSA and WAGGGS formed a foundation, the World Foundation for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts – WFGGGS, whose sole purpose is to promote the achievement of WAGGGS programs and to provide financial grants to scouting organizations seeking to join WAGGGS. GSUSA and WFGGGS are even located in the same office building in NY. Therefore, the fact that WAGGGS partners with Planned Parenthood and GSUSA provides financial and program support to WAGGGS means that GSUSA is at a minimum indirectly supporting Planned Parenthood. That is reason enough for any faith-based organization to take a good, long look at what Girl Scouts is doing and who they are supporting financially and otherwise. God bless St. Timothy’s for standing up and having the courage to say “Not in our House.” Check out these sites and do your own research:

I’m not sure why this is even newsworthy except that there are few who are willing to stand up to political correctness these days. I stopped buying Girl Scout cookies several years ago when I learned of the ties to Planned Parenthood and letting the cross-dressing boy join just made me even more sure I had made the correct decision.
