VA Teacher Arrested After Allegedly Lining Students Up and Firing Blanks at Them

Forget the dunce hat and the dark corner — this Virginia teacher seemed to have had a different kind of discipline in mind when he allegedly waved a “firearm” at students, then proceeded to line them up against a garage door firing squad-style and shoot at them with blanks.
60-year-old Manuael Ernest Dillow was swiftly arrested and charged Wednesday with a dozen Class 6 felony counts of brandishing a firearm on school property.
Dillow reportedly honed in on 12 students in his welding class, pulling the gun from his waistband before firing it up to 10 times.
None of the students were injured in the bizarre incident.
A statement from the Washington County Sheriff’s department read:
He then pulled a ‘blank firing handgun,’ black in color, from the back waistband of his pants and discharged the weapon between four and 10 shots in the direction of the line of students. The ‘report’ of the firearm was similar to that of a firearm that fires a projectile, thus placing the students in fear.
Class 6 felonies are punishable by up to five years in prison and a $2,500 fine for each.
Dillow, whose hearing is slated for May 7, was released on a $20,000 unsecured bond.

So are an uncomfortable number of students. Have you ever spent all day in a public school? Name the grade, it doesn’t matter. Spending all day getting kids to sit down and be quiet long enough for a teacher to teach them anything is a very trying job. I in no way justify what this teacher did, but there are still two sides to the teaching arena.

At least that’s how it is/was here in PA. But then I’ve been out of high school for 34 years. Yikes, that hurt.

And BTW, unless any of you critical of educators in general have DONE THE JOB, then you might understand the stresses that educators today face. YOU PARENTS have stuck your faces into every little affair of your children in school, screaming and crying of prejudice and unfair treatment of your little darlings. This has created a system where no child can be disciplined by a teacher due to reprisal by administration.
We are sick of students who are given cell phones by their parents who text in our classes and feel they are entitled to do whatever they feel. I you don’t teach, you literally have no clue.
BTW, I don‘t condone that teacher’s actions, but I definitely understand his frustration!

I’m sorry – but I could care less Mr. Teacher in VA… I happen to be among the many who believe that the MAJORITY of teachers today – and I’m taking upwards of about 70% of them – are NOT effective teachers and have no clue what they are doing.
Just because you have a degree in teaching, doesn’t mean you actually KNOW a damn thing… In fact, just because you went to college and came out with a degree doesn’t mean squat…
If you are a teacher – and your students are actually LEARNING – then GOOD FOR YOU! Very Proud Of You! But let me tell you – you are among the FEW left on the planet who are actually doing students any good.
If you are offended by the comments above and you’re a teacher – then you need to rethink WHO you really are… because if you a GREAT teacher, then you should consider yourself part of the 30% who are NOT complete morons.
