Van Jones: My Opponents Should Sit Down and Shut Up

Former Obama administration green jobs adviser Van Jones has a pretty straightforward message to his opponents: “Sit down and shut up.”

He made the comments in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine this past week, when asked what “love of country” means to him. [bold added]

It means I love Americans—the people who actually live here, who look all kind of different ways, who pray all kind of different ways, who love all kinds of people. And I challenge the people who are the opponents of my values to explain how they get to be patriots. As I say in the book, they seem to distrust the American government. They seem to dislike most of the American people. They seem to resent most of America’s achievements over the last century, including unions and public education and environmental protection and so many of the things that made the American century the American century. So I don‘t get why we don’t just tell them to sit down and shut up. They can complain if they like, but we have another century to win. We have another century to win!

While Jones doesn’t specifically mention “conservatives” or “Republicans” in his response, the implication in saying “opponents of my values” is pretty clear.

Jones has been on somewhat of a media blitz in recent weeks to promote his book, “Rebuild the Dream.”

    Van Jones is an arrogant a$$h0l%, our founders were suspicious of government so much they put in a system of checks and balances to attempt to keep government in check.       He forgot what King Louie said last week – “Telling the African American brothers and sisters to only marry their own and not to taint their race.” He was also getting in a dig for states trying to stop illegal Latinos from coming in and using state funds that are even short for the citizens. I have a good friend – Latino who jumped thru all the hoops and is a legal citizen. I have no problem as long as it is done leagally.

      “Jim” Van Jones is doing what all good marxists do, they use lies, manipulation and deceit to occupy a narrative or space, in this case Jones is claiming to be a PATRIOT by redefining the American Dream and the term Patriot.

      He is using Marxist strategy to pervert reality and context, and position Authoritarian Collectivism aka Communism, Progressivism, Envirofascism and redistribution of wealth as Patriotic. Everyone else is not Patriotic.

He was telling us that we were all the ignorant hater drones who only don e what we were told to do by the blaze.       I am so glad you brought up collectivism and individualism. While a society in general is based on a certain amount of collectivism, there must be a balance between the two. A totally individualist based concept would be complete anarchy and not play into a well functioning nation of rule and law. That would be more like Afganistan. I do agree with you that too much collectivism is not a good thing but neither is an extreme individualist agenda.

      Just like everything else in life take all things in moderation.

      The founders and the Constitution framed the line between Individual Liberty and Collectivism very well.

      For over 100 years the ‘collectivists” have been incrementally eroding and subverting the protections for the individual and limits on the Government.

      If Collectivism is the American Dream, then I am Elvis. Thank you very much…

      Collectivism is surely a dream, the modern liberal elitist dream, to live off the productivity of others enabled by the coercive power of the State.

      The key to understanding the “line” is coerciveness.. collectivists must use coercion as they claim to hold all information to make decisions for all by decree or fiat. This is the fallacy, that a small group has more information than the summation of all individuals in a society assuming the elites are virtuous which is rare. Clearly they don’t know all, so empowering the individual to make choices will lead society to get closer to the truth and better decisions. Whenever society has made poor decisions it is always from coercion, deceit or manipulation by a small group. History is very clear, collectivism and its derivatives destroy a society

      Can you make your own decisions or do you want a small elite group to do it for you? Are they acting in your best interest or their own?

      My issue with Collectivists like Jones is that they are dishonest, they can’t articulate their true intentions

      I agree with what you said about small groups using coercion. Though I think it happens all the time with corporations buying off politicians. Whether it is Soros or the Koch brothers, those with money are the ones who really control both side of the aisle. That is where the mocking of the system of government that our forefathers designed.

      I am no fan of Jones, though I am definitely no fan of Congressman West who uses fascist rhetoric that plays at the heartstrings of the ignorant. Saying that Americans that have a different ideology should take their opinion somewhere else or saying that anyone who he does not agree with is a communist is just plain sensationalist. Congressman West represents the richest district in the country and I will find it very interesting to see how he does in his next election

There are lots of European countries, communist countries, socialist countries that would allow you in and you would be happy there. Your ‘dream’ can come true today…just buy a plane ticket….if you are allowed to have a passport.

    Van Jones is a very slick and, like Obama, somewhat likable. But if he and his cronies were ever to take over in a big way they’d be doing more than just telling opponents to shut up, they would be shutting them up through intimidation tactics. I would call it FASCISM!

      Somewhat likeable? Not to me. Looks & presentation Van Jones a 10. Pres. Obama a 5. Pres. Obama appears to be a good dad so that is a good thing, other than that, he doesn‘t think much of people who disagree with him and I don’t much think about that Van Jones says he is a communist and a leader for a movement in this country that will have very negative consequences to Americans that embrace Life, Liberty & the pursuit of happiness. Pres. Obama, with taxpayers’ money, has transformed this country 70% and Van Jones is a vulture/hyena that is ready to finish the left-overs. Doctors/medical & insurance companies need to brace themselves for what is coming, and promised by Van Jones & all his buddies, in May. Watched the middle-east violence & now it is on our shores & backyards. Millions, perhaps billions of dollars wasted on radical ideology. God help us!

    Van Jones, along with Sharpton, Jackson, Waters, Holder, Obama, etc are part of the vast Racial Grievance Industry. The RGI exists only to keep liberal Democrats rich and in power.

    If Van Jones were honest about American History, he would know that Democrats, liberals and progressives are the worst thing that ever happened to Black Americans. Historically the Democrat party was party of racism and the KKK. If you doubt this, pick up the book ” Whites, Blacks, and Racist Democrats” by Reverend Wayne Perryman, a conservative Black American.
