Van Jones Slams the Tea Party & Praises Occupy Wall Street During ‘American Dream’ Conference

Van Jones is unabashedly anti-Tea Party. After resigning from the Obama administration back in 2009, the former “green jobs” adviser seems to have finally found a calling in railing against the conservative movement.

During “Take Back the American Dream” this week, a three-day conference in Washington, D.C., intended to inspire liberal activists and their enthusiasts, Jones slammed the Tea Party, dismissing its cause as “silly” and “the worst.”

However, his jabs were also countered with some positive compliments about the inner workers of the Tea Party — a movement that has become a part of the nation’s political discourse.

For someone who has such disdain for the movement, it’s intriguing that he called for his supporters to “steal” from the Tea Party’s playbook. Yes, that’s right. He very literally urged progressives to utilize the same tactics and to build the same infrastructure that conservatives have assembled.

In fact, he went so far as to claim that liberals can learn from the Tea Party’s accomplishments. Fox News has more:

Using the pick-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps tone President Obama has employed in recent days, Jones pointed to the Tea Party movement as an example of grassroots activism done right. He suggested liberals have relied too much on one person, Obama, to fix everything.

Below, he shares his version of the American dream:

Jones gave credit to the Tea Party for building a “network” that doesn’t rely on a central figure. “You can’t land at the airport here in D.C., and get in the cab and say ‘take me to Tea Party headquarters’,” he explained. While the Tea Party speaks about individualism, the movement acts collectively, he said.

In contrast, the left, he explains, has talked collectively and acted individually. He wants liberals to come up with a messaging that is both “positive” and “portable.”

It is with this in mind that Jones is planning to build a movement for the middle class. In explaining where progressives went wrong, he said, “We went from hopey to mopey and forgot to build a movement in the middle.”

Rather than focusing so much on one individual — President Obama — to fix all of the nations problems, it seems Jones wants to see a collective movement rise up and come together to tackle the issues of the day.

This so called initiative, something he dubs the “American Dream Movement,” was launched earlier this summer. This particular conference, of course, is an effort to provide the movement with steam, while bringing key progressives together before the 2012 electoral season heats up.

To add insult to injury, Jones was ready and willing to praise the Occupy Wall Street participants. The Root has more:

On Monday, speaking before attendees at the Take Back the American Dream Conference — a Washington, D.C. meeting of multiple progressive organizations working to build a cohesive national agenda — he interrupted his PowerPoint presentation to give an update from New York. Describing the activists as courageous in the face of police pepper spray and arrests, he announced that U.S. Marine veterans were reportedly joining the protesters.

“Marines are going to protect them and stand with them in their dress blues,” Jones exclaimed to hundreds of cheering participants, of various ages and ethnic backgrounds, assembled in a ballroom at the Washington Hilton Hotel. “This is a movement moment! Something’s happening in America! Don’t you give up on this country! Don’t you give up on this movement! This is your movement!”

    Van Jones is a communist tool. The left wing nuts and communists demonstrating on Wall Street think they are the beginning of a socialist revolution. They see obama being voted out as president and their hope of a coup is dimming. They now want to go to the streets to void the coming election. Van Jones is whipping up his people.,..the blacks,….to come to the aid of these socialist rent-a-mobs. We normal Americans cannot just sit and watch this and not do anything to save the nation.       To the protesters: Corporatism is NOT part of a free market.

      The free market did not cause the Great Depression; Rather, a massive expansion of credit by the Fed during the 1920s misled businesses into engaging in unsustainable long-term projects. This also led to overvaluation of these companies’ stocks. This was the Roaring 20s … Caused by the Fed … not by the free market.

      When this false boom busted, as all false booms do, we had the stock market crash of 1929.

      This is the Austrian Business Cycle Theory, basically (as applied to the Big Crash); And because Ron Paul knew Austrian Economics, he knew, way back in 2001, that the housing bubble would crash.

      Keep celebrating the killing of an American citizen with no due process. You could be on the list next. Keep cheering the noose that is slowly being lowered and tightened around our necks.
      Now that they can just kill whoever, with no court, no evidence other than “trust us, he was a REALLY bad guy.”
      They are setting the stage for violence, and a preparing to deal with it from a legal (or illegal in this case) standpoint of just being able to “off” you, if you get in the way. You get a brief trial in the media, and the Prez comes out and says what a great day it is for America, now that you are gone.
      The world is safer now that those pesky “Tea Party people” have been dealt with.

      Note also that capital IS involved in EVERY boom-bust cycle – BUT ONLY BECAUSE there was a massive non market expansion of credit.

      A free market would NEVER result in panics, depressions, or recessions, because no one in a free market would risk extending this much credit! This goes for fractional reserve banking WHICH IS ALSO NOT PART OF A FREE MARKET.

      Which brings me to the next logical point: Fiat money allows for a sneaky phenomenon called Cantillon effects, which is like a back door tax. By printing money out of thin air, the printers get to spend money at its current value before it gets devalued.

      This, in effect, transfers wealth to the bankers and the government from everyone else.

      This is why Ron Paul says to END THE FED. You cannot inflate certain commodity monies very well (such as gold), and so banks would stand and fall on their own without taking the rest of the economy with it, were it not for the fact that we are being FORCED to use fiat money.

But, their people think its about taking care of the planet, taking care of the poor people, green jobs, you name it.       If you are not completely familiar with the term “kulak” you might want to figure it out right now. IT IS YOU, fellow American. I say this not because of what happened to the people deemed kulaks, I say this because it is incredibly important to realize that the moniker was a moving target. In 1918 in the Ukraine a Kulak was someone that owned a farm with more than 5 employees. After they had all been shot and their property nationalized, a Kulak eventually became anyone who professed ownership to anything as mundane as a shovel. The deciding factor of which Kulaks lived and died was up entirely to the the class envy of the mob of idiots.

      I strongly wish Glenn would do a segment on the Kulaks in the revolution. It was the same with Mao, Pol Pot, etc. Now it will be you.

    Have you noticed, they all have fancy organisational names for their utopia. This was tried in the 20′s-30′s and failed, but they have had many decades to re-educate the people and now they can come out more openly again, and have won in many areas( see potus). Are their enough of us left to kick them back into the shadows? The TEA people are the only ones left to do this….I hope there are enough common sense people left in the country to do it.
