Van’s Grand Plan to Span the Land: A Union Protest at Every State Capitol

The unrest in Wisconsin has inspired Van Jones.
In fact, he‘s so touched by the outpouring of support for the unions he’s calling on people across the country to protest even more. And everywhere. This week, Jones announced a plan to “rally on the steps of every statehouse in the union,“ calling it the ”positive” Tea Party moment. Not surprisingly, the plan is being sponsored by a who’s who of progressive organizations.
“Moveon.org and others have issued just this kind of call to action; everyone should prioritize responding and turning out in large numbers,” Jones says in an op-ed on the Huffington Post titled, “Introducing the ‘American Dream’ Movement.”
“On Saturday, the powers-that-be (in both parties) should see a rainbow force coming together: organized workers, business leaders, veterans, students and youth, faith leaders, civil rights fighters, women’s rights champions, immigrant rights defenders, LGBTQ stalwarts, environmentalists, academics, artists, celebrities, community activists, elected officials and more — all standing up for what’s right.”
According to Jones, the rallies are part of a movement to “defend the American dream” against Republicans and their “slash and burn agenda” that’s “killing [it] off.”
But Jones‘s language isn’t limited to death-related rhetoric. He also tries to appeal to calmer progressives with references to a “moral center:”
By standing up for dignity, equal opportunity and fair play, the Wisconsin workers have found their way to America’s great moral center. They have shown us all, at last, the way back home. By standing with them, we reclaim what is best in our country.
April 15, 2009, marked the beginning of the national movement to remember the Tea Party and pull America to the ideological right.
Let Saturday, February 26, 2011, mark the beginning of the national movement to renew the American Dream and return us to the moral center — where everybody counts, and everybody matters.
Still, there’s no talk of such a center on the main rally website.
“In Wisconsin and around our country, the American Dream is under fierce attack,” the site (a part of Moveon.org) says. “Instead of creating jobs, Republicans are giving tax breaks to corporations and the very rich—and then cutting funding for education, police, emergency response, and vital human services.”
Another section of the George Soros-funded Moveon.org calls the gatherings “emergency rallies” and notes, “We are all Wisconsin. We are all Americans.”
There are currently 40 rallies planned for Saturday at 12 pm local time. They are not all scheduled for state houses, however, as some rallies will take place in major metropolises, such as one set to lay siege to the New York Stock Exchange.
In order to get the word out, the group has started a Facebook page. But so far, the page seems sparsely viewed, with just over 1,000 “liking” it (as of publication time). But the lack of interest thus far hasn’t stopped some people from sharing their thoughts.
“We all know we need to live more sustainably but austerity is not the answer,” one commenter writes. “We need justice. Social Justice, Environmemtal Justice, Economic Justice. … The middle class & poor should not be the ones to pay.”
Apparently emboldened by Wisconsin teachers calling in sick, another commenter said “i [sic] think we should have a sick out in may and everyone that WORKS for a living stay home for 1 week im talking waitresses, gas station attendants, truckdrivers anyone that physically works.”
Facebook pages for individual rallies have started popping up, however. 15 people are attending the rally in Sacramento, CA, while 32 people have signed up for the aforementioned gathering at the NYSE. According to the Albany, NY page, 19 people have confirmed their attendance. One attendee is even on planning a “kid’s corner“ and proposes ”maybe sidewalk chalk or a ‘marching band.’”
So exactly who is supporting these rallies? Unions and progressive groups. The rally’s site lists the sponsors so far:
“If we take a bold and courageous stand, over time, we can win,” Jones writes. “Make no mistake about it: this is our “Tea Party” moment — in a positive sense.”
Frances Fox Piven would be so proud.

Posted on February 23, 2011 at 4:41pmI think Van Jones woke up to the reality that Americans are catching on to big labor’s ponzi scheme of unionized strong arming. No more! Let them organize in an attempt to save their cash cow. Americans are the final check and balance established within the Constitution. If Van Jones claims makes fiscal sense, then I’m sure citizens will be on board and support his ideology. However, times are tough and the major of Americans are NOT unionized and cannot support public sector union employees earning more than the tax payers who support their penions and lavish benefits.
Bottom line — the people will decide. (For better-or-worse!) Just as Americans supported the Tea Party in Nov 2010.

Posted on February 23, 2011 at 6:15pmPray for guidance and have faith that there are far more Americans who love our country just the way it is than those who want to destroy it. We have the truth on our side, and the truth never changes. The War of 1812 and the miracles that occurred throughout reminds me why I would die for my country, and reaffirms my belief that we are truely “one nation under God”, and why “in God we trust”. .
Take a moment to read through the story of this War that united our nation and sealed our reputation throughout the world as a force to be reckened with. It is sad that our youth do not know American history because that makes them more gullible to untruths. Educate your children in fact-based American history because they are being taught a progressive biased viewpoint starting as young as kindergarten. I urge parents to take some time and browse through the lesson books, and text books that your children are using for history and social studies. Ask them what their they think their teacher’s viewpoint about whatever the history/social studies lesson might be. Communicate with your children because indoctrination into the concept that being rich is bad, that America owes people something, and that you should never make alot of money or have nice things because it would be unfair/ to others or selfish of you. ..

Posted on February 23, 2011 at 7:53pmNOTICE TO ALL: Everyone had better take Jones seriously because he is playing for keeps, and this is about the time when our enemy will make a move. For you doubters… Van Jones is a serious threat to the USA. Take him seriously… but never, and I mean NEVER, back down from this man and his people. Help save this country for our future generations. We can be the new founding fathers for the next 50 generations if we do this right.

Posted on February 23, 2011 at 8:15pmI’m really looking forward to this… the unions protesting at every capitol. This will put the union debate into motion in every community, and will have disastrous results for progressives (and communists). These protests will be plagued with all sorts of radical nutjobs. If you are nearby any of these rallies, please go by with your camera and record some of these people – if they want exposure and coverage, then we should help out any way we can.
The radicals are betting thier entire revolution on public opinion of the union movement. Time to sit back and watch the train wreck.

Hmmm…shame on you VJ, my my, you let the cat out of the bag—you admit we are a force.

Posted on February 23, 2011 at 10:57pmThe “American Dream” was based on a society that has and understands the value of INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. Not collective rights or MOB RULE. When the law makers forget this the ground they stand on becomes shaky and people like VanJones and socialists, communists, etc can come pushing their way in with only weak arguments against them. I’m amazed at how they can twist words and deceive such a mass of people, but then considering that the nation has been educated by the very people who are rising up it is no wonder that they don’t get it.

Posted on February 24, 2011 at 3:05amYou think that the Wisconsin protests are just unhappy Wisconsinites? think again.
these clips from ABC World News, article By DEVIN DWYER Feb. 18, 2011
“DNC Chairman Tim Kaine also reportedly spoke with Wisconsin union leaders and state legislators ahead of the protests, the Huffington Post reported, signaling his direct involvement in coordinating the effort.”
and also
“According to news reports, the White House has even unleashed the Democratic National Committee to spread disinformation and confusion in Wisconsin regarding the governor’s courageous actions,” he said. “I urge the president to order the DNC to suspend these tactics. This is not the way you begin an ‘adult conversation’ in America about solutions to the fiscal challenges that are destroying jobs in our country.”
Now, I wonder if a certain Union LEADER of, say, the AFL-CIO, who frequently visits the White House and speaks to a certain individual had anything to do with pushing this kind of thugery???
What do you think? I think Democrats = Mendacious

Posted on February 24, 2011 at 3:25amAccording to Jones; “the American Dream is under fierce attack” “Instead of creating jobs, Republicans are giving tax breaks to corporations and the very rich—and then cutting funding for education, police, emergency response, and vital human services.”
Now if I recall correctly. When the cow towns of the old west began to spring up it went something like this. Cowboys pushed their herds north. when they stopped for rest usually at a watering hole towns began to pop up. It might start with some merchant in a wagon that turned into a store. Then a market that served food. It grew and split into a market and resturant. Then maybe a hotel would spring up. Don’t forget the salons. the propritors built homes, some family members started farms. The last thing to arrive were the schools, policeman and firefighters. Point being, if you dont have the jobs you can’t support or need those public services. So who do you support first? businesses. Cut them slack. free up some of their money. They reinvest in the business. Business grows. Jobs are created. More people work. more working people buy things. Town grows. taxe revenue increase. Now you have money for police, schools and firefighters. What is so complicated about that?

Posted on February 24, 2011 at 3:38amnever mind,,,I gotcha. But that is normal growth. If it was determined that certain factions, like schools, fire, police, etc., were to be paid higher prices than the people supporting them, with lots of benefits to follow, then the town couldn’t afford them very long,,,they’d go broke and the system goes down. Simple to understand.

He’s using phrases like “the American Dream is under fierce attack,” (which he blames Republicans for) which is a nice “I’m all for America” type statement but is really nothing more than a trojan horse. He wants massive protests to enable his royal O to declare state of emergency and put pressure on governors to submit to his will.
Maybe one of us can come up with an effective and appropriate counter massive protest with absolutely no violence. sigh…. :-/

Posted on February 25, 2011 at 11:15amThis polarized political dialogue is too funny. I get it, they’re idiots, they’re violent, they want to destroy America. But THEY are saying the exact same thing about YOU GUYS. So you‘re both right let’s see how the country would turn out if each side alternately disappeared.
Report Post »Your country would be a land of deregulated industries, minute government, meritocratic economic prosperity, and presidential administrations that fight and exploit foreign people and resources, ignore the environmental connection between human health, and pander to the top 1% so as to promote an economic trickle.
They’re country would be a land of responsible regulation on pollutive and wasteful industries, adequate government to provide health, education, and infrastructure needs to all, undistorted economic opportunities, and presidential administrations that are diplomatic and fair with foreign people and resources, aware of the fragility of our ecosystem needs, and pander to the bottom 99% so as to promote real tangible wealth, health and better lives for all.
Uhh, I’d choose the latter. And I‘m pretty sure anyone who isn’t being misinformed would agree.
It’s plainly the choice of supporting corporations or humans.
