Verizon Union Workers Bused To CEO’s Home For Protest

Hundreds of striking Verizon workers sporting red shirts and holding candles while chanting of  ”No contract, No peace!“ and ”What’s disgusting? Union busting” held a vigil outside the Mendham, New Jersey home of CEO Lowell McAdam. The strikers were bused in by their union in an effort to highlight the differences between executives and blue collar workers.

Since August 7th, 45,000 Verizon workers in the Northeastern part of the country have been on strike. At issue is management’s proposed pension freeze and some increased employee contributions for healthcare premiums. Despite the “no contract, no peace” chants, police report that the protest outside the CEO’s mansion was held without incident.

The timing of the protest at the CEO‘s home may be tied to a looming deadline for worker’s healthcare benefits. Many walking the picket lines face a loss of coverage by the end of the month. WYSR TV in Syracuse, NY has the story:

While there was no violence at the protest, there is a cost involved. The people of Mendham will be forced to pay for the needed police presence to manage traffic and assure safety at a protest involving hundreds of strikers. This reality was not lost on Verizon, as company spokesman Lee Gierczynski told Fox News:

“Union bosses surely can find more constructive things for their membership to do than waste taxpayer dollars, public safety resources and their membership’s time with these cheap theatrics.”

As the strike against Verizon wraps up a third week, there does not appear to be a resolution coming any time soon. If anything, tensions seem to be increasing. Earlier this week, The Blaze reported on some curiously violent rhetoric being used by union officials instructing members on how to follow and “torture” Verizon managers.

And just days ago a Facebook profile page of a striking Verizon employee in Massachusetts featured this alleged, union-distributed image:

Verizon strikers at CEOs home in New Jersey

The profile page of the MA Facebook user has since been edited and the curious image removed.

The next step in the union‘s playbook is apparently to cripple Verizon’s telephone customer support centers. The Washington Times is reporting that CWA union is emailing retirees, directing them to make scripted and coordinated phone calls to service centers in an effort to “tie them up.”

      @DB321

As much as I would like to see action like the air traffic controllers, an employer can’t fire a striking employee in an economic strike unless there is direct evidence of violence. Prior to Obama, there were many large and violent strikes. Three immediately come to mind. Hormel, Caterpillar and Boise Cascade. Hormel and Boise Cascade were violent large strikes in Minnesota under Gov. Rudy Perpich, a democrate. At the Boise Cascade strike approximatley 1500 construction trade workers from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan were bussed in to a town with a population of 6000. The mob burnt down a construction trailer site. Perpich refused to send in the National Guard even after the Sheriff told him that he could not keep the peace.

I know this in detail because I was there. I had the pleasure to testify in criminal trials and at arbitrations.

Verizon has the right to take the union benefits that they take from the employees total payroll and put it in an escrow account until the unions stop this nonsense. This amounts to huge money and the union usually works from hand to mouth. Just keep the money and bankrupt the union.

No matter what you’re differences when you start calling for violence to solve your problem there is something criminal about it. This under=handed and dirty and if I had any support for these Verizon employees and their “plight” NO MORE. Union workers, if you want people to support your cause, cut this crap off. Americans don‘t like it when people play dirty and going to someone’s home and threatening and intimidating their family and neighbors, vandalizing their property, even resorting to violence and sabotage is playing dirty and will garner you NO sympathy from me. This is all over pension benefits, seriously, people!!! My grandfather had to strike before I was born to fight for the right to take a break on a 12 hour shift, or the right to negotiate a fair wage. These battles came before labor laws and served to make things fair for the employees. These were honorable fights and even then I would have thought it wrong to do some of things that these guys are doing and even some of the things my grandfather and his union brothers did do. This is bottom line about money in a time when everyone is hurting. Give me a break!!! There is no need for this and this is just downright ganster tactics. Ridiculous!!! Grow up!!!

    All,
this is just part of the 3-pronged front….

    1. We have RINOs (all republicans NOT newly elected last fall) allowing and joining in on the attack on Tea party – why? Because we sparked real longing for cahnge and the energy to make it happen.
    2. The communist powers controlling the WH, and working on destroying our country and creating the One World Order…. – keep market unstable with periodic big hits, keep world unstable with periodic riots, demonstrations with brainless slugs who think the evil doers are looking out for them….disruptions in peace…setting stage for “reasons for taking more power and usurping more freedoms”
    3. Attacks on anything God-linked – this is key, the center of all of this is to destroy Christianity…why? not because they don’t “believe”, but because without God, there is no guilt, there is no right vs wrong, there is only “Do what we want because we like it.

I think in my own ameturistic way, this sums it up pretty well…

It is just not right to go to people’s homes and protest. Something is wrong with these, folks. This should not be allowed. People have the right to protest anywhere they please until their faces turn blue, but not at people’s homes. This tactic employed by the union thugs is simply unacceptable. Where do we draw the line?

On the same note, it is time unions payed their fair share! Can you tell I’m anti-union? You bet I am!!!

The owners, CEO’s etc etc deserve more compensation. Let the market forces work. In the end it will work out. If you think the terms of the contract are not the right thing for you and your family you are free in this country to find a suitable company that meets the needs of you and your family.

I wonder if they realize that their employer is no longer a monopoly? People that live in the areas Verizon serves have many alternatives for their Phone, TV, Iand nternet service. If these shenanigans go on too long, they risk driving away customers, helping their competitors grow, and decreasing the number of jobs available.

I don‘t know the specifics of their ’struggle’, but if their main beef is with pension benefits and healthcare costs they will not find much sympathy in the general population. Their days of being isolated & protected from the real cost of their healthcare coverage are over.

Exactly, Beekeeper! When my husband’s healthcare costs went up 25% last year, and all of the other costs, including GAS TO GET TO WORK went way up, we just pulled in our spending—MORE—and thank God we still have a job. This story about strikers makes us all sick. I am thisclose to changing carriers (our Verizon contract is expired anyway). Are you listening, jerks??

Hang tough Verizon, you can do it! I retired from Verizon so I know how well prepared they are for strikes. These thugs wouldn’t want to protest at my house…I’ve got dogs & guns…

I hope that one day I can go to the organizers of events like this and hangout in their front yards, pester their families and then when the Organizer tries to complain about his rights or privacy or the pursuit of happiness, I can spit at him/her, call them names, trash their yard and neighborhood, terroize their family and make their life a living hell. Naw on second thought, I can‘t do that because I’m not part of mob-think. I stand apart from the “lead like sheep to slaughter” mentallity. I understand that issues should be talked out in the correct forums not in a families home! I would use my second amendment rights and protect my home from these idiots. The sign says no tresspassing, and I enforce that law!

We have two ways to treat people in this country, One group is cuddled and tolerated in their behavior and the other is not. People and organizations fit into one of theses two groups. Unfortunately, unions are tolerated and not held accountable for their actions. Until the people rise up and put a stop to this practice which is nothing more than “acceptable discrimination”, it continues.
