‘Very Bad Day’: Maine GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Swears at Reporter

Monday for Paul Lepage did not go well. The New York Times echoed a famous book title calling it his “Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.”
He walked out of his own news conference Monday in Augusta after reporters asked whether his wife was a permanent state resident, saying, “I am running for governor, not my wife. I want to talk about the $1 billion shortfall we have, and if you guys want to do the Enquirer, I’m not playing.”
Later in the day a reporter asked Lepage whether his kids went to school in Florida on the “in-state” tuition rate:
The questions stemmed from a report in the Kennebec Journal last week that Mr. LePage’s wife, Ann, got permanent-resident tax exemptions on homes in both Maine and Florida last year, a violation of tax law.
This is where the profanity emerges:
By the end of the day a more contrite Lepage admitted the day had been an “absolute disaster.” Lepage has been leading a five-way Republican race.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 2:40pmI said a few days ago, the attacks will be forth coming. Yup.
Lepage is a good man and a conservative, which we need here in Maine. Paul handled this question extremely poorly, and I hope he can learn from it, because more will be coming his way from the lib loon media here.
You who have posted should note that nearly every negative remark was from someone out of state. Those of here have a bteer understanding.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 1:27pmWe had a radio talk show host in Beckley, WV when i lived there. That was during the time that Tom Delay resigned over some nice remarks me made about Strom Thurmon. This talk show host refused to condemn Robert C. Byrd over his comments, but ranted on and on about Delay. Smae junk here with Lepage. It is nothing but a “Hurray for our side” thing. Nothing to worry about.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 1:05pmMaine desperately needs Paul LePage. We all know this is a ruse to ignite Mr. LePage and get a reaction. We are talking about $191. And does anyone honestly think they do their own taxes? Give the guy a break. The liberal media is really grasping at straws here. Unfortunately my local newspaper, The Sun Journal, deems this big front page headlines, while making our democratic nominee look “plu-purfect” (as Chris Matthews would say) I hope Mainers don’t let the media sway their opinion with this crap.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 9:34amLook, this guy is the only thing that can help our state right now. I am at work right now, and do not have the time, but if a fellow Mainer could post some true facts on Lepage it would give more insight to those who are judging the man but a couple sound clips. “Let those without sin cast the first stone………”

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 9:31amHe is most certainly NOT a jerk. He is the best hope that we have in Maine right now to turn this me$$ed up state around. This piddly $200 tax issue is meaningless but it’s all they really have against LePage right now. While Mr. LePage should probably work on controlling his emotions a bit better, a little slip like this is no big deal in my opinion.
Officials in FL say the tax issue is actually a very common oversight. Ann LePage was apparently caring for her sick mother when this all began. She was signing all sorts of forms & paperwork. I can understand how this might have happened.
As a resident of Maine and a definite voter on Nov 2, I put my full support behind Paul LePage because he has a proven record of fiscal responsibility and conservative values. He is also a leader that I would be honored to follow. Paul cited a quote in the debate last night that was something like “He who governs least governs best”. He doesn’t want government to stick its nose into every aspect of our lives. He is a true leader that will create conditions for business growth & personal liberty and that’s exactly what we need up here.

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 11:38pmIf you can’t stand the heat get out of the frying pan. Hello you and your wife are clearly doing things underhandedly, you knew these questions were going to arise. Instead of getting perturbed with the questions, it might have been a good idea to have a straight forward answer and it might have been dismissed. Now you only look more guilty and you can kiss the governorship goodbye.

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 11:25pmHopefully this revealing outburst will end his run for Gov. We don’t need anymore sleazy elitists to run our states and our country. They seem to feel that no one should question their political records or their character. What a loser!

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 11:33pmWell said. I cuss all the time and actually it would be quite refreshing to see politicians acting like real people, so I could careless if they do cuss, but the second they start trying to hide anything they need to go. Term limits in the Senate and House would solve the problems we are having with our politicians today. We would get citizens that are looking to make things better for their states VS career politicians looking to save their own skins.
Report Post »oneinmaine
Posted on September 14, 2010 at 11:46pmNeither “sleazy” nor “elitist” applies even remotely to Paul LePage. Do a little research and find out about him. In my opinion, this is a good example of the meatgrinder of our political system that average people will encounter as we try to restore citizen legislators and get rid of the slick, career politicians. This is a mistake that neither a Snowe or Collins would make. They just sell the country down the road in a polished, professional manner. Hopefully LePage will learn, explain, correct and move on. We need his ideas and experience in this state.
