Vet Loses Prosthetic Hand to Fish in Tournament — Only to Have Another Angler Reel It Back in Later

Jack Wiseman is a Wounded Warrior with a prosthetic arm. He lost his arm in the gulf — not the Gulf War that is but the gulf of Mexico. And it wasn’t his original arm that he lost there, but his prosthetic.

Veteran Loses Prosthetic Hand While Fishing and Another Fisherman Coincidentally Reels It Back In

You see Wiseman was one of eight Wounded Warriors invited to the Boca Grande Pass fishing tournament over the Memorial Day Weekend. It was here that Wiseman’s prosthetic arm was reeled out to sea by none other than the fish he was attempting to reel in.

Wiseman explained to WFMY News that he has several attachments that fit onto his prosthetic, one of which allows him to hold a fishing rod. The lunker he was bringing in pulled off the hand to his arm — attachment and all — and dragged it into the deep. In the report, he says “All of a sudden the hand snapped off the prosthetic device, still hooked to the rod, and the rod and the reel and the hand went down into the water.”

Although Wiseman never expected to see it again. Wiseman told CBS 12 in an interesting turn of events that “somebody else hooked that same fish and our rod with my hand was still attached to the rod and they brought it back to us. So that’s my fishing story.”

Watch the report:

Wiseman’s friends had a good laugh over the events and have already been invited back to the tournament next year.

I would like to know what was meant by somebody else “hooked it.” When I was a kid I was fishing at one of the locks on the Barge Canal. This man was daydreaming with his fishing pole laying on the ground. Suddenly there was a “kerplunk” and it was gone. My line started running out and when I reeled it in my hook had catch on his line and run down and fastened to the reel. I pulled it in enough for him to get his pole and he finished reeling in a carp. He was happy because it was a gift from his wife. Ah, the memories of youth!

Falling for the same bait twice! That fish musta been a dum bass.

But how about that second fisherman! He reely seized that oppor tuna ty.

I’ve heard those guided fishing expeditions in the gulf really cost an arm and a leg, but that is ridiculous.

Thanks, and don’t forget to tip your waiter.

Can I give you a hand? No really how do you think this poor guy felt when he thought his arm was lost? Only to get it back right away. How cool is that. A fish story.

I remember a story in the Bible about a fish and a coin. I want to pay my taxes that way…a dead fish in the mail to the IRS….

I remember a story about a group of old guys (one of whom was a friend of mine) who spent a day out fishing on a boat.

One of the guys lost his false teeth over the side and grizzled about it at length. He did however pull up a very large fish which my mate offered to gut for him while he continued fishing.

As a joke, my friend asked one of the other old guys if he could borrow his false teeth and slipped them inside the fish. “Hey! This fish has eaten something! I think it’s your false teeth! Look at this!”

The old guy lumbered over, took the bloody false teeth and shoved them into his mouth. He pulled them out again saying “Nah, they’re not mine”, and threw them over the side of the boat.

Here is one of my father’s stories:
This farmer had a cross-eyed cow and he calls the vet and asked him what to do about it. The vet tells him to put a pipe up the cows behind and blow. The farmer does but no effect. So he calls the vet again who comes over. The vet pulls the pipe out, turns it around, puts it back and blows. Sure enough, the cows eyes straightened up. The farmer was amazed but asked the vet “Why did you turn the pipe around?“ The vet replied ”You didn’t think I was going to put my mouth where you had yours, did you?”
